For example, three is the avocado colored floor and four is the orange colored floor. If the elevators and the automated pay machines functioned a bit better, this place could be four stars. However, multiple times I've seen the elevator stuck and the pay machines malfunction. Try to park on the lowest possible floor in case of elevator drama. Conveniently located near lots of OSJ attractions. Cash only. There are occasionally some homeless people milling about the pedestrian walkways but they are not aggressive, just looking for some change.

This historic Spanish fort was built in the 1500s & played a major role in defending San Juan from sea attacks during the colonial era. Walking through it, you can really feel the weight of that history. The thick stone walls, open courtyards, tunnels, and lookout points all reflect how strategic & intense life had to be back then, especially w/ the constant threat of war & invasion. What really hit me most emotionally was just being there & taking it all in. Standing on the grounds overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, it was easy to imagine what it must have been like centuries ago(soldiers watching the horizon, waiting for ships to appear). There's something powerful about physically being in a place that played such a major role in PR's history. It was honestly a really memorable moment for me. Not just b/c of what I learned, but b/c of how it felt being surrounded by so much history in 1 place. It gave me a deeper appreciation for San Juan & the stories built into the island itself.

Sadly, there's no open deck to take in the view, inside seating only, though some of the windows open. On the San Juan side, the ferry terminal is in the vicinity of the cruise liner berthing. It looked like mostly locals and a handful of tourists on our random January weekday around 3:30pm. Most tourists will take the ferry to get to Casa Bacardi (a taxi-ride away from the Cataño side). I took the bus into San Juan a couple times from Isla Verde and neither time the driver asked for fare, just told me it was "gratis ahora". The worst part is probably just sitting in that crap little area in San Juan waiting to get the bus back as there's no real time table you just wait and hope the driver comes out eventually. I loved listening and trying to learn more spanish from the locals riding with me. It's also a great way to see various neighborhoods including residential ones tourists really don't get to much. Ironically enough the only person that got a bit upset with my crap spanish was an older lady that I asked about when the next bus was. She exlaimed to her friend "tourista!" and I go "claro, soy turista, cuando piensa el proxima bus!". She told me, but was shaking her head. Oh well, grumpy old lady aside the trips were fine.
