I go here for daily mass and sent my son here for 2nd grade. I loved the school for second grade! The first communion prep and retreat was wonderful, and the 2nd teacher Mrs Yakel was so so wonderful. She was the best. I saw complaints about the principal but when I was there last year, the principal. (Rosa Ramirez?) was so organized and very helpful. I don't know how much more competent a person can get- she was always there, always present, and on it. I transferred my kids to Camino schools for this year because I wanted a classical curriculum and no homework :D But I would always be forever grateful for La Purisima- the ongoing daily masses and the wonderful school experience and First communion experience (even bishop came). This school did great for my first daughter but once the principal changed they really let my second daughter down. For that reason I give the school 2/5. Mrs. Valles was fantastic. The one after her was absolutely pitiful. Not sure if she is still there. Her name started with an L, that's how forgettable she was. I don't recommend at this point. read more

I've been going to this church since the early 90s. I remember when there was a man with a very obedient dog that would stay outside during mass. I remember the Parish Hall was once the main building. I remember the fundraising to get us to the current building that we use for mass. I remember Fr. Waz, Fr. Jim, Fr. Val, Fr. Chris... all those guys. This church has always been the maverick of Orange County. The trilingual masses, masses outside for Easter Sunday, giving the congregation Jesus' part during Palm Sunday (this was way back). I remember Fr. Waz even had a joke book he was trying to sell. My best memory was my first communion. I remember Sunday classes too. Those were fun times. My worst memory here was when my phone got stolen 8 years ago in the parking lot. The door was unlocked, yes, but can you imagine someone going into a church parking lot and then stealing something? Messed up. Don't know if they still do the yearly fiesta but that was always fun. Very active, great community. One person that goes unnoticed is Deacon Bube. He's been there for as far back as I could remember. Very friendly. He's the man. He's an outstanding individual. You can tell he leads a very disciplined life. I've never seen him without a smile. Right now the parish is being lead by Fr. Bill. He's got a different brand. Very much about social justice. He seems to really like the Gospel of Luke! read more

Catholics from parishes all around come here every Friday during lent for the FISH FRY!! This is one of the best ones around! Besides offering fish and chips (totally yummy!), they also have great fish tacos, yummy Mimi's clam chowder, shrimp scampi and of course, for the kids and those who do not eat fish/seafood, they also have cheese pizza! They also offer salmon, but I've heard that you should be prepared to wait ... a REAL long time ... for your order! Oh ... and they also offer beer and wine to have with your dinner! You can either dine in the main hall (real noisy) or there is a smaller community center across from the main hall (not as noisy) ... and you can also get your food 'to go' .. but just be sure to stand in the line on the right side when ordering. My personal recommendation is the fish tacos ... it comes with 2 tortillas, and enough fish that you can split it into 2 tacos!! Enjoy! read more

Very nice church wedding ceremony location. Ton of parking. Ton of seating inside the church. The ceiling fan in the middle kept me cool on the hot day. Speaker system kept glitching every so often but you could still hear without it. Great church, enjoyed seeing my buddies get married. read more

Short-n-Sweet: Engaging Parish, with a couple of different musical styles to choose from for Sunday Mass. Get involved volunteering here and you will get hooked. Very hospitable. Very beautiful in a traditional way. Tip: Has a great adoration chapel at the back of the church, south side. The small chapel is open from 7am until 9pm mon-Fri for sure. Weekends are different times. The large church is always open from 7am until 9pm everyday. STORY-TIME: So, I became the "Duke" not long ago, and that definitely meant I had to write a review of this great parish. It's known throughout Orange County as a very involved parish. They were nationally recognized for their efforts of stewardship. They have paid off their mortgage/loan, and they have a large number of volunteers for all their ministries. As you arrive, you get a sense that you are entering a traditional church. The exterior is beautiful but traditionally looks like an old mission church. The interior is more on the modern side, with the baptismal font being in-your-face a work of modern style. Their chapel, on the other hand, is more traditional but beautifully done. Basically, the entire worship space makes you want to be silent and reverent. It's quite the prayer space. Unfortunately, that would be the only prayer space. No gardens that I know of exist here. But they have a gorgeous plaza that they do set up for people to eat for festivals or large celebrations. Their largest hall space would be their elementary school gymnasium. The people here want you to get to know them by becoming active. They have so many things to place you. You can't be bored here. One of the most famous events they hold is Lenten Fridays Fish Fry! Talk about deeeeliicious fish! It's beer-battered and creates such a commotion!! During the Lent season is probably the only time they have people waiting in line that extends outside their doors!! Come hungry but also come prepared to wait. This is definitely a parish you need to consider! read more

The Jam three day music festival is amazing. Same great cover bands as Tustin Concerts in the Park, but add folding chairs, 20 different food booths featuring everything from Polish sausage to street tacos, wine, beer and margaritas, and a great silent auction. This school and church is not what there instagram and social media puts out there and I know this from experience. After the original principal left things all fell out of place they replaced the original principal with a third grade teacher are you kidding me? this school has potential but the principal is putting it down. If you are looking for a good education please consider sending your kids to a school ALOT more. If some of you don't think I'm being serious I am. The teachers are amazing but the principal is the one that's a problem, the school gets donated all this money for "funds" and school trips ,somehow the parents still end up having to pay, so where is this money going to? This school offers sports with amazing students ready to play and the school can't afford a real coach with all this money that is being donated. There is also a lot of favoritism that goes on in this school by the principal and she shows it. There has been plenty of times where parents have complained about something not being right and it never get taken care of. There is a difference between being strict and handling the school like a real educated principal vs what this principal is doing. This list could go on. read more

The school is an amazing place. I have been apart of the family for a while. The principle is amazing She is sweet and is always there to help . The teachers are so nice and welcoming and you get a sense of love and community. The parish is beautiful and the priest are amazing and funny. Just FYI there is not "perpetual adoration" here (as the Real Presence website indicates). This was disappointing to me. However there is a chapel in the back of the church with a tabernacle and Jesus inside. Friendly community here and prayerful environment. read more

I've no no problem with this church before, but just yesterday may 6 I baptized my 7 month son and I had made a request I didn't want them to shower him with the holy water, I wanted just the forehead like they used to do it. I called 7 times to see what the father had said about my request he said it was fine just when it was my sons turn to remind him. I reminded him and he was such a mean person about it i told him the weather was cold and my son was sick so I didn't want to do the whole body and he yelled and said "we'll find your self another day" i was so pissed off almost cried why in the hell would they say yes to my request if he was gonna make a scene? THE WORST COMMUNICATION EVER, now my baby is extremely sick, i can't believe I went thru with it I'm so heart broken my baby can't stop crying. This place is all about MONEY.............. forget the education and the edicts of the staff. The principal was a 3rd grade teacher that has no experience on how to run a school, you just don't come to be a principal overnight you need the experience and I don't think this lady has that. Bullying is a for sure thing in this school don't expect the issue to be resolved they will sweet talk you that they will treat it however ones you start talking to other parents you will notice nothing was done.....(Talking for experience) if you are going to spend the money on a good education for your child please do your homework first and check the other Catholic School or even the private ones they are 100% much better than La Purisima you will notice the difference write away don't spend your money on a place that has issues and not even good reviews. We write for experience for how others have been treated children being bully and miss treated for their physical disabilities. Worst experience of my life! My fiance and I have been in the process of getting married for about a year now.Every time we would drop off paperwork we would get mixed communication from the parish staff. They lost our paperwork and tried to cover up by saying we never turned it in.... I have a month before the wedding to get my paperwork ready and all alma (office manager) said "ill keep you in my prayers" a lil management for your staff wouldn't hurt!! read more

What a disappointment this place was from the beginning. I was going to enroll my daughter in the half day pre K program and defused not to sue to the following. My father who is handicap and can only walk a few feet was supposed to pick up my daughter from school because I work. The area where they have parents pick up children is a very long walk for anyone that is handicap as it is a very long way from the front entrance gate to the pick up area. I asked if someone could wAlk my daughter down the long hallway to the gate so my father could pick her up and the principal's answer was no because he needed to sign her out. It was very difficult for me to try to understand why it is such a difficult task to have someone walk my daughter down hallway and have my father sign her out at the gate. I can't imagine why this is such a difficult task for the school especially in California which is such a well equipped state for all of our handicap community. I find the school to be a reflection of the one who is in charge and if this is the way their administration takes responsibility I can't imagine them having good judgement in any other important issues. Especially disappointed that this is a catholic school and this is it the way Jesus Christ has taught us to be. They sure do ask for a lot of money, supplies and even parent volunteer hours. Even fundraising money. They ask a lot but they were unable to appropriately handle this situation. I'm sure the priest of that church would be disappointed as well. Terrible example to our children on how to be kind to others in the community. How can they teach children to be helpful and they are it even willing to help out with this simple task. We came to La Purisima Catholic Church in need of setting up a funeral for my sister's husband James Thomas. My sister called and said the first experience with Rev. Randy Guillen was terrible. He came in and asked what do you need and told them to figure out the readings and said any questions. No hello, no I am sorry for your loss. I took that as maybe he was having a bad day. We had no one telling how to set any of this up. This is where my sister called me Marjorie Schultz to see what I could do. I work at Holy Family Artesia as a EM and have a lot of involvement in the church. I phoned Rev Randy Guillen to see if I could talk to him. I never got a call back. called the Parish office and left email and voicemail for him no call back. 2nd impression not good. Parish office said Ed would be contacting us and we only had 4 days left to get organized. They finally got Ed to call. and worked with us on some of what was needed but not clear what we were doing. The day of the funeral Rev Randy Guillen, came in early never said hi, sorry for your loss never even spoke to family at the beginning or end of the mass. Coldest priest I have ever met. Ed explained our places and I told Ed not all of these people at the funeral were not Catholics so they would need to know they could go up for the blessing during communion. Ed said the Rev Randy would announce that prior to communion. When communion started Rev. Randy never said anything about coming up for the blessing. So no one was moving up. My sister and went and told everyone they could go for blessing if they were not catholic. 3rd impression: Service was over Rev. Randy left the church never said a word to the family no one and left just walked away like we were bothering him. I was so ashamed of him as these are people of all religions coming to pay respects and they all said the same thing. IF this is the Catholic faith I am glad I am not a Catholic. My sister still donated money and thanked him for the gospel as she has class and respect. I on the other hand don't want to lose potential Catholics to our faith and cannot accept this type of treatment. On your website it says "All are welcomed, accepted and loved Here" You need to change that and say not if they meet Rev. Randy as he has no people skills and does not know how to talk to people. Jesus loved everyone. Rev. Randy if you are not going to love everyone please leave the faith so we don't lose future Catholics. I know it will never change him but maybe he needs to retiree and leave the church as I for one will never go to La Purisima. Worst Service I have ever been too!
