Still loving this church! Parking is easy, and the people are incredibly friendly and welcoming. While things understandably slowed down during COVID, they've really picked back up with lots of community events and prayer opportunities. Sunday mornings are even better now with donuts! Sorry, but unimpressed. I came here looking for an AA meeting that is still shown as being active on a local website. I couldn't find it, so i asked in the main office. It turns out it hasn't been run since covid. No problem, these things happen. What shocked me though, was the clear and obvious distaste and judgment coming from the ladies working in the office. I was pretty uncomfortable and felt very unwelcome. Sweetheart, im not an alcoholic. Im a psychiatric nursing student doing research into addiction. Thank you for the lesson in how not to treat people. I will be sure to demonstrate the complete opposite of what was shown here when i treat my patients. read more

I attended the 10:30am mass last Sunday, being a visitor from Europe and I must say, the choir is just amazing and awesome! The singing moved me a lot and for me, having a lively and well-organized choir provides the mass with more inspiration of focus to the Liturgy of the Eucharist. read more

This is a beautiful church with a very tight-knit congregation. Masses are always very special and meaningful here. The choirs sing their hearts out and the homilies are always heartfelt and thoughtful. There is always a sense of God present here, and I often come when mass isn't in session to just sit and pray when quiet time is needed. Now, many Catholic churches get crowded during the "Prime Time" Masses. You know, the ones around 10 or 11, before lunch but leaving enough time for everyone to sleep in. The only thing that gets to me is this is the only parish I've been to where NO ONE seems to have any personal space. People will shove in to the pews and smash you in, without even so much as an "excuse me." I can't even blame it on the culture of the major demographic as I've had this happen with every nationality lol! It's something about this particular church! The priests are dedicated to the parishioners and strive to serve their community through multiple events and on a personal level. I have noticed that they make themselves very available and are visible speaking to parishioners long after services are done. I like this church. Very nice architecture and modern artwork inside. The congregation is friendly. I have had no problems finding parking when I attend the 8:30am mass. You can check the mass times on their website as well as upcoming classes and events. They often have charity fundraisers like pancake breakfasts! I stopped in a couple random times during this past month for quiet time in the church. I am not Catholic (my wife is) so I am used to the various Protestant churches I've gone to through the years that are open only during worship services but are otherwise closed except by appointment with the pastor. Being able to go into a sanctuary during the weekdays is a nice benefit of the Catholic church (I also like the Catholic traditions during mass). read more

With Msr Don retiring this past year I was compelled to post a follow up review. Our parish is now led by Fr Kim - I have yet to meet him personally but I have heard his sermons and my (retired) parents seem to enjoy him thus far. We continue to hold blood drive events, fundraising, including a personal favorite, GrandFondo (Im a triathlete), while our ministry programs (youth, adult faith formation, special interest groups) are welcomed with new and familiar faces. The Catechism program is especially something I've been involved with since 2012 - a lot of changes has happened recently, and what I have gathered thus far is best to keep an open mind. Having said that, I welcome this transition. I have been attending SJN for over 10 years and have been incredibly fortunate to volunteer alongside other SJN parishioners who have contributed over 20+ years as a Eucharistic minister, catechist, or other youth ministry leader - And they have mentored me via example. I only hope we continue such traditions so that we can accomplish greater things together. read more

St. John's is a welcoming place to worship. I went in today for Easter Sunday and as usual, the mass ran smoothly. The church was filled to the brim today and luckily there was only one baby wailing for a short amount of time during the service. Throughout all my previous visits, today was the first time I got to experience the priest make it rain holy water on all those attending as he went down each aisle with a bowl filled with the water and a brush like object. The only down side of today's mass was when we were giving peace to our neighbors and a woman in front of me left me hanging as I extended my arm towards her. Under his direction, and because of his passion for music and the music ministry, the St. John Neumann Choir of Irvine, has been growing in number and deepening in its music ministry. One of the great things I love about this church is because they use to have children choir. Since Kelly and Karen left things are not the same. The doctor is good but I wish he would include the children. What makes a great church beside visiting Gods home, is including the children. Children will become adults and will pass on to their children the God's word and as a catholic we must continue our faith and it starts from parents to their children and where our children can experience God's work through payers and music. read more

was very crowded so get there early or else you have to park across the street somewhere. they split the church to recieve the body of christ separately (those in the back go outside to come back in and those in the front go to the altar). it was pretty warm inside so i dont think they have an AC system. the choir and performers were lovely. read more

I have been a parishoner at St. John Neumann Catholic Church for over 20 years and it seems over the years it just gets better and better. Today our new pastor Fr. Jeff Doressler is out of this world (figure of speech) - his homilies are terrific - I feel I learn something about my faith every single time I listen to him. Fr. Michael our Associate priest is just lovely. He is newly ordained and he brings his joy and happiness in the Lord each time he speaks. Fr. Conlon our founding Pastor is still with us and is so nice to see him almost on a daily basis. To top this all off - our choir when you experience it - is like being at Carnegie Hall. I must say that Saint John Neumann is more then my church, it like my family. I notice there was one who thought SJN is always closed and that not true. During the time in question the church was installing new lighting and painting in the church. The parish hall was being used as place for worship and chuch office was open during this time as well. One would think that if there was any questions that you would go into the office and ask. I find it hard for those that give low marks when they don't know the whole story. read more

I call this "Superhero Jesus Church" because of the mosaic that's clearly a 70's-inspired replacement for a proper Roman Catholic crucifix. Because it was close to where we lived, husband and I would come here for confession and stations of the cross, but if we happened to miss our usual morning mass at our regular church, we paid the price by attending the g-d awful Lifeteen mass at this one. This church has it all: bad music, bad singing, people talking before mass, irreverant, projectors, videos, priest pacing the "stage" with a microphone, jokes, entertainment, blah blah blah. I have been coming to this church since December because of the music. The choir that sings on hSundays at the 10:30AM have been a source of my inspiration. I was at Kaiser Permanente Hospital located on Sand Canyon in Irvine California this last Friday on 22 Febuary 2013, due to my mothers illness. My mom wanted to recieve her last rites before she died. I called and left two messages on their emergency number that they provided. No one ever called me back and no one ever came. I attend St. John Neumann's Catholic Church since June 2011. I really love it and have found ministries both in prayer and assistance to the poor. It has a large and diverse congregation centered around a demographic of 35 year old couples with 1-3 children. The ethnic mixture is equally diverse, about 40 percent Caucasian, 40 percent Asian, 10 percent Hispanic, and five percent African American. This is an excellent church for young people with a Bible Camp and an active catechism. Finally for daily Mass attendants there are Masses at 6:30 and 8:30 a.m. during the week as well as regular Mass schedules on Sunday. It is a good place to come and pray whether it be alone during the day or at the Holy Hour of Adoration on Tuesday. The church is a tad conservative which I like and the pastor, vicar, and deacons are the best. Finally the church organizes excellent social events and is well involved in the community. read more

Truly enjoy coming to this church. We feel the sense of community and belonging. My family enjoys the Sunday 8:30am mass as it is designed for family with younger children. They call out children to the front and bring them all to the religious education room so they could have bible studies, etc while the parents are able to fully engage in the mass without having the kiddos bored. The teachings for kids in R.E. room is designed for them to understand the basics in Christian faith. The new priest Fr. Christopher Pham is really good. His homily is very touching and relatable to our lives. Although for some his Vietnamese accent is hard to understand, if you truly listen and pay attention (which is what you're supposed to do anyways), you will hear the words of God! Plus, their 5pm mass is awesome too! It caters to "Teens" The choir (especially the pianist/singer) she sounds like Evanescence!! And the choice of music are very touching and fresh. And they have Youth Ministry for 9th graders and above with retreats, outreach programs, etc. I highly recommend our church to everyone who are looking to enhance their faith and closeness with The Lord! read more

We hunted around a lot and settled on this parish, we drive some distance but like it a lot. The congregation's pretty alive and they have their act together - lots of hardworking families and professional people. We like the fact that Pre-K and K level Sunday School runs during 8:30 Mass. Music is decent, several styles to meet your taste. There's no insanely awesome worship group like some of the charismatic churches, but there are prayer groups for that. Lots of ministries, and a stunning mosaic to keep you focused on what matters. It's right on Ivine's Church Row, just off the 405 @ University/Jeffrey, so you can get there easily.
