The hotel was extremely outdated, rundown and in desperate need of renovation. Our first room was spacious. It had a bullet looking hole near the sink area in the wall. The only sink that worked was the one in the bathroom that leaked water on the floor. The other didn't work. The toilet's water was turned off, and once someone "repaired" it, the toilet was running for the rest of the night. The carpet was gross and grimy. And the wallpaper was peeling and somehow rusting. The shower had hair and dirt from previous guests. The staff were somewhat helpful so we were able to change rooms. Our second room was 5% better , but the water in the sink near the fridge barely worked when turned fully on. We did enjoy the pool although there were no towels and we had to go to the front desk to request some. We booked to stay here with an event group room block but we will definitely not be returning. read more

My buddy and I had never stayed at a La Quinta hotel before, so we honestly didn't know what to expect. I will say this, though: I wish I had done my due diligence like I typically do and read the Yelp reviews first. This is a huge NO for me. We had booked three nights, but after the first one, we found another hotel and spent the rest of the visit there. This place is horrendous. Imagine you looked up "cigarette burn" in the dictionary. This is the picture they would use. It still had a vague aroma of ancient Marlboro ashes, plus something else that was potentially more unsavory (mold, I think it was?). The front door lock didn't work. There were no lights in the parking lot. There were minimal lights in the main atrium. Everything in the room was damaged, dingy, old, and in dire need of replacing. It's the cheapest, dirtiest, most antiquated hotel I've ever spent a night at. I'm very grateful they did not charge us for the remaining stay. I'm guessing they're used to this by now, and it's easier to just free up the room again than to actually put money into fixing anything. You hate to leave reviews like this (well, I do anyway), but I really feel like it's a matter of time before this place folds and sits abandoned for eons. It's a real shame, too, because they have a great location next to the highway going up to Green Bay or down to Milwaukee. And it's a stone's throw from downtown Appleton. If all La Quintas are like this, then it's permanently off my list. Even for the price, it was not worth how skeevy I felt while staying there and even after having left. P.S. I am sure this was once a nice place, but lack of maintenance and basic TLC makes it a place to avoid. When there are stains on the couch and floor plus remnants of the prior guest you have to question the cleanliness of the room. The furniture throughout the facility was worn and damaged. The breakfast had few choices, donuts, waffles, toast and muffins. The toaster did not work and the attendant said that one side has been broke. I watched for 30 minutes and no one every cleaned a table. There are several hotels in the area and may be a few dollars more, but worth it for the cleanliness. Skip this place. UPDATE; I discussed my concerns with the manager and she said they were 17 years from the last renovation. They did refund my room charges. I still recommend to go somewhere else. read more

We booked here based upon price and the 4 star review. The establishment must have paid its employees to write those reviews as this place in horribly over-rated! I should have looked more closely at the recent reviews. Had to wait over an hour for a second room, as the first was was filthy and not cleaned from the previous occupants. Our room was grossly over air-freshned, trying to cover up the cigarette smoke and funk smell. Bathroom sink was clogged and slowly drained. Hair dryer was filled with dust, just waiting to ignite. Wallpaper was peeling. And the shower floor was "spongy" under foot. AVOID! read more

I've stayed at this hotel On a regular basis. I wasn't completely impressed. Little care went into the amenities and the pool was closed in what seemed like. The staff, left little to be desired. So, I made the decision, then, to start staying at a different hotel. A few days ago everything was pretty booked so I decided to give this place another chance. I was told it was under new management in a huge renovation was about to take place. My first contact was with the assistant manager, Dave. It was pleasant from the start, accommodating me, making sure I had the room that I needed, generally and truly being concerned. The hotel rooms themselves, a little dated right now but clean and somewhat pleasant. The staff, the most important thing to me besides cleanliness of the rooms, very pleasant and accommodating as well as approachable. You can always expect a "hi" walking past walking past any associate. I like that. I stay in a lot of hotels I travel frequently. I live an hour and a half away from my significant other so hotels in Appleton, are particularly important to me. I was very satisfied and surprised at the changes that have been made. If you're in the Appleton area, and you can deal with a dated room, of course very clean, please give this place a try. I'm expecting big things out of this place. I was pretty disgusted the second I walked in my room. The smell of cat pee hit my nose and it was a "no" already. Nothing was cleaned. The bathroom counter was covered in hair and grime, including the shower. Hairs all over- even in my bathroom towel. The carpet, furniture and WALLS are all stained. For the price of the room, I'd expect at least more cleanliness. Do better, La Quinta. read more

The room was in need of makeover. Two outlets - nonfunctional. Two lamps - didn't work. After showering, you could hear water sloshing underneath the tub as you dried off (scary). The layout of the building can best be described as "catacomb-like", and the parking lot looks like it was last re-surfaced during the Ford administration. read more

We travel to WI each month to visit a family member in a nursing home about 12 miles away, and need a hotel room for one or two nights. Because of the cost of travel (200 miles/4 hrs each way) I'm always looking for the best value. Because our visit is sometimes stressful we prefer a hotel a notch better than adequate so we can decompress. I'd signed up for LaQuinta's Returns program, and got an email with an unbeatable offer--a $129 room for $79. Since that first stay, this particular LaQuinta is our *very* favorite place! The price varies as it's not always part of their montly specials, but when it fits the budget, we're here. The rooms are luxurious and quiet, the beds are very comfortable, and the breakfast is great (better M-F than Sa-Su as they have scrambled eggs and sausage). Wi-Fi is fast. There's a huge pool and a very nice exercise area with video games and activities for kids. Chil's is attached to the building (show room key for discount), Texas Roadhouse is right next door (ask the LaQuinta desk clerk for a 10% discount coupon), and Boston's Gourmet Pizza is just a block east. All in all, this is our favorite place in the Appleton/Neenah area (Wingate is second). Note that there is another LaQuinta property just to the west of this; it's an older property but clean and quiet, 2 stars vs this property's 3 stars. Checked into our "suite" and immediately checked back out. This location would be ideal for guests who enjoy kitchenette appliances from the 80s, popcorn ceilings, threadbare furnishings, the overwhelming scent of dungeon must and an overabundance of mystery stains. I'm all for no frills, budget friendly LQ stays but this one takes the cake in the don't waste your time department. read more

Well when we first got here, the A/C was set to 62 degrees. It was 76-77 degrees. This didn't change for a while. We called the front desk and they said in 30m somebody's coming to fix it. Turns out the AC is down on this entire wing! The lobby in the main area looked very nice and modern, but the wing we're staying on had a few problems. There's stuff hanging on the trees right in front of our windows. The beds are very comfortable, but when we pulled out the couch pullout bed, we saw candy wrappers and a loose earbud sitting below the couch. I don't hate the place, it's really nice, but it just has some problems. Hot tub was down for maintainence, but I didn't really care. WiFi works very fast and the pool is giant! read more

We had to stay here because we got screwed over by another Wyndham property in town and had to make changes at the last minute. The room was ok and actually big enough for our family of five. The front desk staff were great, but the room was dated. Don't really care though about that. Was more bothered by the massive groups of people staying there who carried on with partying in the lobby area right outside our room. Again had an issue with adults in the pool area drinking alcohol around the kids. Hotel did nothing to stop it. And the breakfast is basically nothing. We had to go out to eat and spend even more money. The best part happened after our stay. The hotel screwed up billing us and have charged our card double for the second night, that, by the way was $50 more than the first night. They claim to have released the charge back to us, but there is still a hold on it. I just love paying double for a crappy hotel stay! My family is done staying at any Wyndham property. I would suggest you avoid Wyndham hotels at all costs. They'll screw you over and don't care. read more

I stayed in this hotel for one night only after not only was my room dirty af.. their cleaning lady stole the cash I left on the bed side table while we were gone. then all they did to help me was tell me to file a police report. they didn't even check into it! never again! we went to the copper leaf and had a much better experience more professional and not to mention cleaner. read more

If you ever need to stay in Appleton this is the place to stay! Perfect location near the mall, restaurants, and only 30 minute drive to Green Bay ! The staff is great and understanding. The maintenance guy Tony was such a pleasant person to talk to and informed us about a lot of stuff to do around town!! We had to make an arrangement for a day early in the middle of the night and they worked with us and made our stay comfortable! They have good quick breakfast to get your day started..and indoor pool. Definitely plan to stay there again!!! read more

Solid 3-star no frills experience. Hotel room was clean, bed was relatively comfortable, and prices are low if you book (as we did) on Priceline or Expedia last minute. The hotel is right off I41 so very convenient if you're en route to/from Oshkosh/Green Bay/etc. There are several food spots a short drive (2-3 minutes) away including Starbucks and Panera. Would return if I'm in the area but can't say I'll definitely be back. read more

Stayed here for one night on a road trip; booked a king bed online and when we arrived they gave us a nice suite. Huge room! Everything was about as good as it gets (or even better) for the price range. Bed was extremely comfortable. There was a fridge, microwave, and mini sink. Bathroom was large and very clean, as was everything else In the room. Free Breakfast: hot eggs, sausage, waffles, along the usual fruit, yogurt, and bagel assortments. Staff were all very friendly; they even had a complementary toothbrush since we forgot to pack that. Pros: The staff is friendly and attentive, good value, rooms are spacious ours had a wet bar which we did not expect. There is a fire pit outside, and several places to eat right next door, and they are pet friendly. Cons- Breakfast was sub-par compared to most others, the hot tub is tiny with a capacity of 4 people. There were 10 little kids in and around it. It looked very dirty. The pool was large and surprisingly deep but the pool needed to be cleaned. I was afraid to put my hand on the ledge because it looked very dirty. Stayed here over Christmas. Really nice wheelchair accessible room. Nice, helpful staff. They even helped me make my waffles in the free breakfast area. The only negative was that I had to ask for a bench for the shower. But they did provide one when I requested it. read more

In reality, this is a 0 star review. I'm not a huge reviewer, especially negative reviews but this place warrants just that...the truth and quite a negative review. First, the positives, the front desk staff were all very nice and accommodating. Now onto the negative, this place is disgusting! DO NOT STAY HERE! Well, as long as cleanliness is an option, do not stay here. We first checked in and took our luggage to our first room. This first room had the following issues: feces smeared in the living (suite room) area in 5-7 different locations. When we attempted to move furniture to cover the spots (because we have 4 dogs that are naturally curious with other scents) we discovered more feces and left over food and debris from previous customers. Then the toilet seat had fecal matter and urine from previous peoples. Next, the room smelled like urine and old stinky butt. Clorox wipes were black/grey/brown when we attempted to clean prior to seeing the fecal smears. So we requested a new room. The second room was exactly the same, with maybe 1 or 2 less fecal stains. Finally, the third room which we stayed in (they gave us a free night because it was so disgusting) required Clorox wipe downs by 3 adults throughout the space. There were no visible poop stains, but the counter tops were filthy. The wipes were black, brown, grey on all surfaces of the room (countertops/night stand/tv stand). The toilet seat was also dirty with body waste from the previous customers. There was old food under the furniture. Additionally, there is black mold in the drain of the shower. Our recommendations (given that we have been frequenting hotels {all brands and variety of aging within brands} for 20+ years), housekeeping need a revamp in staff or training. Either way something needs to be done or this hotel will not or should not remain open to the public. I mean poop smears on the floor and black mold...not okay La Quinta Appleton. I was impressed by this hotel when I first arrived. After paying only $70/night I expected much less. The lobby is large and nicely designed, almost has the feeling of a quasi-resort, with many plants and couches and the upper level hallways are running balconies around the lobby. My room was large, with a couch and kitchenette. Everything was very clean. I don't know when they remodeled but everything looks very new. The pool area seemed nice, although quite hot, and you had to walk through the actual pool-room to get to breakfast for some reason, which seemed awkward. The continental breakfast was nothing special, toast, bagels, waffles, cereal, donuts, cofee, milk, juice. But it was definitely nice to not have to leave the hotel for breakfast. The only complaint I would have is that housekeeping knocked on my door in the morning, asked if I needed anything, I asked for new towels...but then never came back to make the bed or collect the old towels. Not that I'm a prima donna, but I had left the wet towels on the floor and fully expected them to be gone when I returned. All in all, nice place. Good price. read more

I rarely give reviews unless a hotel knocks it out of the park, I have never taken the time to do a negative review. We had a soccer tournament in Appleton this spring, I was looking forward to checking this place out because we are planning a huge family reunion in the Appleton area next summer. Pros: the staff at the front desk is professional, pleasant, and helpful. Cons: First, there were cheerios and other debris behind the curtains and furniture, the room didn't smell clean, the sofa was dirty and uncomfortable (really old). Second, and far worse in my opinion, the management here BLOCKS CNN and NBC from their cable boxes. It felt disgusting to be censored by a random stranger (or worse yet corporate entity?) Either way, I checked for FOX news, thinking maybe all news stations were blocked for some reason, but nope, there it was. It just felt gross, unnecessary, and controlling, and would be whether the blocked station were FOX or CNN.. I wondered, if they have the time to purposely control my cable channels so carefully, why can't they manage painting, updates, vacuuming, etc? Maybe the answer is the same. Don't stay here unless you want big brother choosing your experience for you. read more

This is an older hotel obviously of some other brand. Reminds me of Holiday Inns of the seventies. Clean enough for its age, the rooms are big enough and clean. The pillow top mattress is comfortable. The bathroom was clean also. Carpet could be replaced, walls were freshly painted. Breakfast was not as good as Comfort Suites but they did have a hot component in scrambled eggs and sausage and waffles. For the price of about $75 the value is here as opposed to the recently inflated price of its close competition. We will stay here again. I do recommend this hotel. read more

We arrived on November 9th to check in to two rooms at 3:20 pm( check in is at 3:00 pm) and were told there were no clean rooms available and it would be 20 minutes. We needed to get ready to go to the game so we chose to wait in the lobby for 30 minutes. We went back up to the front desk and were again told that there were no rooms available and it would be 20-30 minutes, the front desk clerk seemed to think this was our problem not hers. This was unacceptable and we asked to see the manager. The manager, who had been busy cleaning rooms, came to our aid and we were able to check in to one room at 4:30 pm. The other room was not ready until after we returned from the game at 1:00 am. We paid premium rates for the room due to the Green Bay game. We were not offered anything, which is ridiculous! Imagine leaving a hotel after check out time. The room was mediocre due to peeling wallpaper, a full size bed that was said to be a queen. read more

Really nice pool and great location , but very expensive for what it offers . Breakfast actually has eggs and a good selection but hours suck ends at 9:30 . Most disappointing thing was lack of customer service , there were the tiniest soaps and lotion and it was next to impossible to get more.Also book online , I was never told the price before paying and never even given a receipt. read more

This is a go-to place for us when in Appleton. This time however, the service was not quite up to par. We were there for five days and several of the days our key cards would not work and we could not enter near our room. The first time they stated that "those are the old style cards and just got upgraded cards that should always work". I took the clerks word for it. next day...same thing (with the "upgraded cards"). Obviously they have an issue but choose not to address it. I also needed to print a document at their "business center". The computer stated that no printer was installed. i asked the clerk if they could contact someone to fix it. They had to put a ticket in with their IT vendor. next day, i went back to print again with the same result. They did not offer me any alternative to print my document, so i had to do it elsewhere which was inconvenient. I expect somewhat better service from LQ as I have received in the past. read more
