Just off I 40 in Shawnee, this location was convenient for us on our travels. Tired and needing a place for the night we stopped here despite the negative reviews. We were on the 3rd floor. Next morning we noticed we were overlooking the pond/lake out back and the pool patio/lounge chairs. Our room was clean, linens white, carpet clean. Water pressure and temperature in shower/bathroom were good. We were by the elevator and noise level was low. Staff was nice and friendly. We did not try the breakfast, but the dining area looked clean and tidy. Same for the exercise equipment. The business/computer room was being utilized by other guests. Didn't go see the pool. This place is gross. I had no choice but to stay. I have been driving for 12 hours straight and I once I got to the room, I wasn't leaving. It's absolutely one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. The remote was held together by scotch tape. The walls are disgusting. The door the room is even dirty and gross. Toilet plugged immediately--so we call desk and they say " sorry hotel has an issue and all plungers are out"...went downstairs about 30 min later and luckily someone returned one of them. Let me start out by saying the hotel staff was nice! And walking into the lobby I felt the hotel was nice. I booked off of Travelocity so when I checked in and the room was not correct , I thought a booked a king suite with separate living area. I went back and told the man and he said there's is nothing he can do , because I booked third party. I was thinking that's crazy because the hotel is almost empty. The room was dark , dated ,and had a lot of flaws, dirty bathroom vents , the tub was stained. I said we can handle it for two nights even though it's almost 90$ a night. So the next day /afternoon I was in the bathroom and boom I seen a bug! I smashed it and showed it to the receptionist , he was like oh wow that's a bed bug!! LIKE OMG!! he was very apologetic and changed us into the room that we originally wanted to begin with. The room was much nicer but still dark and outdated, had a lot of dead space. I just could not wait to get out of this hotel! It felt eerie !! The next day I checked out and had went to the Baymont inn next door and it was very nice and cheaper!! Made a reservation via the App. When I checked in they had 3 rooms reserved for me and my account was charged. After jumping through hoops, which included talking to customer service, the front desk and even handing my phone to the front desk and back again twice, the room issue was sorted out. The hotel interior is dated, worn and in urgent need of upkeep. After working all night and a long day of travel I un packed my things then collapsed in my bed for a nap. Upon waking I searched the room for the TV remote, being sure to check every drawer and closet. No remote. The television wouldn't change channels without it (the channel selector on the set only changing input options). I went down to the front desk and he said they've, "Run out of extras" and simply suggested that I change rooms. I certainly was not up for that option after the check in issue. While I'll be certain not to stay in this particular property again, I'm increasingly less inclined to stay in Laquinta properties at all. There are much better options. read more

We stayed here during a road trip from the west coast to east coast and got a two bdrm suite on the first floor. Let me just say, we will never stay again. If it wasn't for the crazy storm outside, we would've asked for our money back and left. ROOM - The room was dirty. There were stains on the couch cushions and chair arm rests. It smelled like mildew throughout. Urine stains on the front of the toilet bowl. The area near the air conditioner smelled like pet urine. The room overall needed a serious renovation. The furniture was all scratched up and worn. NOISE/OTHER GUESTS - I could hear the room upstairs, but not enough to be bothersome. What was bothersome were the people going in and out of the back door of the hotel at all hours and letting the door slam. One group of guests flew into the parking lot with their music blaring at midnight. Then they were smoking and drinking outside of our window. Really! It's Sunday night and this isn't suppose to be a party hotel, is it? Other guests that we ran into were very nice! STAFF/FEES - All of the staff here were very nice! My only issue was that the gentleman at the front desk didn't inform me of the pet fee before randomly charging my card. I have no issue paying it since I did have my 8lb Min Pin with me, but they need to post a sign or list it on their website that there is a charge since not ever hotel charges for pets. After 2 1/2 hours driving around hotels and motels (off the 40) in Oklahoma City I decided to keep driving. They all seemed like crack or meth houses, security guards in lobbies, sketchy looking people in the parking lots. Scary. I was exhausted, had two small dogs in the back seat, and there was a winter storm coming the following morning. I knew the La Quinta chain allowed dogs but I also knew it was more expensive than most of the chain hotels. I got comfy with the idea that it would be close to $100 (as opposed to Motel 6 $50) because while all the other might be a bit cheaper, they bumped up the cost with pet fees and not giving AAA discounts. From Greg, my first front desk help, to Flo, my last front desk customer service help, and everyone in between - the staff was awesome. The housekeepers were lovely and helpful when it came to taking care of my room with the dogs in it. The maintenance man was helpful with weather updates and advice on when it was safe to drive. This was an awful storm, and I ended up being stranded there for 3 nights while the roads got cleaned up. They gave me a great rate for every night I stayed there, keeping it low even when my last night was a weekend night when the rates are generally higher. My king room had a jacuzzi IN THE ROOM :) And I used it every night. It was amazing. The only reasons the hotel doesn't get 5 stars from me are these: No restaurant on site and nothing within walking distance. Bed too firm for me and while there were a ton of pillows, none were comfortable. The exercise room only had 3 machines (eliptical, treadmill and bike) and only the bike worked. The back door (where I let me dogs pee) didn't work with your key. I didn't use the pool/spa (I had a private jacuzzi!) so I don't know how that was. All in all - a really nice, clean, well stocked hotel with awesome staff. I would absolutely recommend it and would definitely stay here again. read more

We stayed here while driving across the country with our cats. We have stayed in several La Quintas with the cats before and had no major issues until now. I would NOT recommend this place if you have curious cats. They discovered they could climb inside and under the box springs of the bed because the fabric enclosing the box springs is torn in many places around the edge overhanging the bed frame. It is very difficult to get them out. We had to take the mattress and box spring off the bed. The process of getting them out could be dangerous for them if you're not careful. The guy at the front desk tried to be helpful by offering us a different room but it seems all the rooms have this issue. They need new box springs! On top of that issue, the hallways have a very strong chemical smell, so strong I could barely take a breath. The rooms are pretty small. No modern thermostat. The breakfast doesn't have any real food like eggs or bacon..just yogurt, waffles, donuts, muffins, and cereal. But there is a Dennys within walking distance. The bed was comfortable enough. Called ahead and booked this hotel without double checking reviews. I won't do that again. Upon arrival the outside looks very dated and in a state of slight disrepair. Reminds me of the hotel that time forgot on the side of the highway a little. The pool area looked nice, but I did not get the chance to use it. Check in was easy and the room rate was cheap. Reminded by the clerk to "secure my car good" if I had anything in it, I asked if there was a problem in this area with break-ins. "Wellllllll...not really, but..." This did not give me a great vibe. Drove around to the side entrance and went in. The room I was given reminded me of a dorm room, but not quite as nice. It was clean. The air conditioning unit in the room sounded like it was powered by an aircraft engine and was trying to rattle its way out of the wall. Upon entry I noticed an immediate odor of mildew or some other type of damp, stale smell. The furniture in the room was definitely very old and a little on the crappy side. You could tell that the desk had seen some water damage and someone had just stapled the laminate back onto a warped and bubbling side of the particle board leg/side. Gross. Bathroom was clean, but only a bar of soap provided, no shampoo/conditioner...etc. Television in the room was an old school CRT type TV that I haven't seen since the 80s. This place could use a serious facelift. I could not force myself to stay there for the night. I packed my things back into the car and drove back around to the front desk. I mentioned my concerns and politely asked for a refund. The front desk clerk apologized and was very friendly while providing my refund (which requires you to fill out a manual form after everything else in the process is computer-driven). If you are someone who requires absolute zero amenities and can skimp on air quality for the sake of a super cheap room then this might be an okay spot for you. I just couldn't do it. read more

This place was my least favorite to stay at. The only upside to this hotel is it's pet friendly. First off, they have a serious ant problem! I'm traveling with a 1 year old and dog so the ants were of course a huge concern. Aside for the bug problem, the front desk attendant (Kyle) was completely incompetent! I'm a Wyndham rewards member and when I reserved the room over the phone, Kyle assured me he found me in the system so that I could receive my points. Unfortunately, Mr. Kyle was wrong. He spelt my name wrong and lied about even looking me up in the system. Thankfully the woman who helped me out during checkout (wish I got her name) corrected the issue. We have used La Quinta's as our go-to spot to stay when we travel across country with our pup! It is a big plus that they are dog friendly and don't charge for it! I have somewhat high standards when it comes to hotels-- mainly what I am looking for is cleanliness, updates, comfy beds and good service from the staff. This particular La Quinta hasn't disappointed-- the one thing I will comment on is a few common areas in the room that they should look out for and make sure are clean!! The heater/AC is absolutely FILTHY!! There is also a lot of hair and dirt under the sink in the bathroom, gross!! Something else that doesn't make sense are the curtains-- they are SO sheer. Doesn't block any light from coming in and people can see in from the outside...not the best quality. As for everything else, I have no complaints. Beds were pretty comfortable and the staff were friendly, both over the phone and in person. I would recommend this hotel (actually not bad despite the few downsides). read more

After a very long drive we walked into the lobby and was greeted by Kyle who checked us in. The lobby is clean and pleasant. There were 4 types of hot coffees available in the lobby and some nice cookies that Kyle offered to help ourselves. Elevator was surprisingly filthy so we got worried about what our room would be like because I did read some negative reviews about cleanliness. But our room on the third floor was clean nice and comfortable. Bed and pillows were comfortable with clean sheets. USB ports are on desk and by the beds. TV was kind of small for our room but worked well and had ample channels. Wi-Fi worked just fine too. Dennys Restaurant was in the same parking lot and there were other restaurants in the area. Easy off/on highway. There was plenty of parking. Breakfast is included and we grabbed coffee and two mini muffins that was very fresh and tasty. I saw freshly made eggs, hash browns potatoes, toast and yogurt to name some items. The breakfast room and counter was immaculate. BTW I didn't smell any odors inside this hotel that some people complained about. When you get out of your car you will smell the hay fields/farms but you are in the country so expect it! But nothing inside the hotel. read more

A friend and I stayed here with my dog for one night on a cross country road trip. We were in and out in 12 hours and overall, it was an average stay. Quick recap: Bathroom, fairly clean. AC sounded like a death rattle and the fan never went off, so that was annoying. Had issues after I checked out (see below) with them trying to charge me for "damages" my dog did (while crated, no less) that they ended up admitting they assumed it was my dog, but "couldn't really remember which room it was." Check-in/check out was quick and easy. It was after I left that things went south really fast. I got a phone call about 6 hours after I checked out (when we were already long out of state) saying that my dog (who was crated all night) chewed up the bedspread. I asked which bed it supposedly came from, as we checked the room to ensure we did not leave anything and again, my dog was crated and was only near one bed. The girl told me she had no idea, I'd have to call back the next day to speak to Flo and that I'd have to pay $40 to replace it. Called back the next day and spoke to Flo, who said that it has "tiny holes in it". I have a 60lb elderly (9 year old) lab, who again was crated, so I know that if she had put holes in it, it wouldn't be multiple tiny ones. Flo said she'd follow up with housekeeping, got a call back saying the housekeeper couldn't remember which room it came from, but they assumed mine because I had a dog. Ended up not being charged and Flo was thorough and courteous in following up at my request, but I did not appreciate them not remembering where the torn blanket came from and assuming it was me, as I saw several guests with dogs while I was waking mine around that evening. If you're staying without animals, you'll be fine. If you have animals, I recommend taking pictures prior to you leaving and having a staff do a walk through with you so you don't get screwed. read more

The first room we were placed in had ants and a broken TV, which was unfortunate but not trip-ruining as they moved us to a new room. The front desk staff was just, overall, unpleasant. When my fiance informed them about the ants in our room, they treated us as if we were a low priority since we booked online and got an excellent deal. They were very defensive when we told them about the issue and immediately assumed we were trying to get our money back. We informed them about the ants and the lady at the desk just sighed and said "well you guys are already at a low rate so I can't just give you your money back". Meanwhile, we were confused because we never even suggested that, we just wanted a new room. The exception of this was a guy named Jarod, he was very accommodating​ and friendly whenever we had questions, needs, or wanted to extend our stay. So shout out to Jarod (as well as all of the breakfast staff and housekeepers as they were all VERY friendly!) for being awesome, but the rest of the front desk staff could use some work. read more

Wanted to find a place to spend the night and La Quinta is a go to for descent beds to sleep in. Everything was very clean. Now for the customer service, during the first hour or two of our stay we noticed that the bed had fleas, knowing that La Quintas are dog friendly, it wasn't a super shock, the attendant immediately upgraded our king bed room to a king bed with jacuzzi, and was very apologetic and even a little embarrassed. Made it very easy for us to change rooms, two rooms down, and that room was super clean and the jacuzzi gave my back some well deserved relaxation. Great service, will stay here anytime. read more

Just stayed here for the night to rest on our out west travels, we always try to stay LaQuinta because we have always had great luck with them. And this one did not disappoint. From the super friendly and professional front desk guy, and our very clean and comfortable room. We went down for breakfast then next morning and the lady handling the food bar was so kind and so sweet to us. This town was ravaged by an F-4 tornado last year and these people are doing everything they can to show how friendly and kind the residence are. Very good job. Randomly chose to stay the night. Took a shot and asked if there were any rooms available. There were. We were given a king bed smoking room for 83.00. Our room seemed clean to the la Quinta standards. The entire hotel did as the matter of fact. However after a while I began to feel little bites. Looked closer at out bed only to find fleas. Front desk did accommodate me with a upgraded room. For this I am giving them 3 stars. Other than that it was a mediocre LQ that could use some work. One word Franchised. read more

Requested a Non Smoking King Suite, got a smoking king suite, then could not find anything to put us in. Then guess what? Oh, we have one! Ground floor by the back entrance, we got to hear everyone come an go all night. The room I think still had the furnishings from about 1970, it had a 20 inch tv that once you sat in the bed was 15 feet away, could not see it very well. Everything was just OLD. Was going to stay a week, stayed one night. Got a room at the place next door (it's great)! Tried to get a REFUND for the nights we did not stay. Not going to happen they said!! Couldn't quite make it to OK City where I usually stay and I am glad I stayed here. I've been to the chiropractor for lower back pain and the first and only day I have been free of it on this trip was the night after sleeping here. Here is the low-down - room was clean, breakfast had hardboiled eggs but no mayonnaise and the overly friendly dining room attendant was a bit loud, outside sounds while sleeping were at a minimum, clerks were friendly, dogs in the motel did not cause any problems, not smelly, and very comfy bed. My room was paid for over the phone through headquarters; when I got to the hotel they were not able to use the credit card on file in which created a huge financial burden for my family. I stayed there 2 nights and had to get my room keys replaced 6 times bc they would not work! Looking at some of the recent reviews, something must have been terribly wrong during my stay (one night, first week of August '14). Honestly, the only reason I'm not giving this 1 star is because 1 star reviews usually cause suspicion about the poster's intention. Previous La Quinta experiences were great. My experience with this one.. We arrive and the clerk was nowhere to be found. After a few minutes I saw him cleaning something up in the hallway, and a few minutes later he checked us in. The hall smelled like a mixture of chemicals I'd never come across before, with overtones of stale cigarette smoke. We got to our rooms and were overwhelmed by an even stronger but distinctly different toxic smell. We were traveling with our baby, so I checked out the 2nd room hoping it would be better. It was not. It smelled like a mixture of mildew and cheap industrial cleaning solvents that hadn't been deemed unsuitable for human use yet. We asked for different rooms. The elevator smelled like cigarettes and body odor. The next set of rooms smelled like mildew, with each one having another entirely different chemical odor from the other rooms. I went to the elevator to go down and get a cart. The elevator light didn't light up so I kept pushing it. Then, an incredibly loud boom came from the elevator shaft. The light came on and the elevator opened. I took the stairs down that time. I got maybe 2 hours sleep because of the toxic conditions. I was going to ask them for my money back but my wife and our baby got very sick the next morning. We needed decongestants and anti-histamines, and felt horrible that the baby had to suffer (too young for those drugs; we didn't fully recover for almost a week). We just wanted to get out of there. It was the only La Quinta of the three we stayed at that didn't send a follow-up email asking how our stay was. Truly an awful, awful night. read more

When driving cross-country, I try to determine best place to stop for the evening, and La Quinta rarely disappoints. This was the first time I had tried the one in Shawnee, and I was fortunate to secure a reservation for the same evening as the day I called. I travel these days with my aging border collie, so it's important to find accommodations that will accept dogs without paying an extra fee. Again, La Quinta rarely disappoints, and this time was no exception. Despite the street address not showing up on my GPS, the location was easy to find with the directions given by the desk clerk. It was early evening when we checked in and we were starving. The desk clerk told us there were few choices for food except fast food and none that accepted dogs. He did mention one place, Brickyard Brewery, that delivered, so that's the way we went. Good choice. Our room was comfortable, and surprisingly quiet, considering we were right by the elevator and the hotel was full. Breakfast was overwhelming, and despite being available till 10, the worker there informed me at 9 am that she was probably going to close down early because she was running out of food. Seeing one man walk away from the food area with eight biscuits for himself made it obvious it was not the hotel's fault. There were obviously some big eaters staying there. One thing that was disappointing was that after dinner the pool was already closed, and I was told I could not swim before 10 am, at which point I was already checked out and on the road. I have physical concerns for which water therapy is useful, and not being able to do that makes traveling more difficult. Wi-FI was barely existent, and several times dropped communication entirely. All in all, the location and rooms were more than acceptable, and I will stay there again. read more

After driving across country and staying at different Hotels this a was by far the worst experience from our vacation. The Place smelled really bad, the pool area including the pool was dirty ( brown water) Our room was "clean" per say but the bathroom tub had black edges and the curtain had mold. My husband started reading reviews right before going to bed and after reading a few reviews about bug beds and fleas, well we decided TO LEAVE THAT PLACE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I went to talk to the front clerk who admitted about having fleas but never bed bugs, with four kids with me, there was no way I would stay there. I'm not going to pay for a room where my kids or myself going to end up with bugs on us. The clerk was very nice and that's about all I have to say. read more

Gonna give this hotel a one star because of all the issues it has. We stayed there 6 months ago and the room we stayed in reeked of stale smoke so bad it was enough to gag a maggot. Then while sleeping in the bed we discovered that the room was infested with bed bugs. Some small, some large but I knew what they were because my legs started itching and once I finished scratching them my hand was all bloody from smushing the little critters. Then, when I was checking the bed for their nest I found that someone had vomited down the side of the bed (inches from where I was laying) and it had dried to the mattress and bed skirt. The management swore up and down that it was a couple of dog fleas but once they saw the pics I took of the blood stained sheets and pillow cases they quickly moved us rooms. One would think that we would have gotten a comp for the room but hell no. We called the health dept. the following day. We stayed there 6 months later and they overbooked our room and treated my wife like shit because of it. wtf? I usually like Laquinta hotels but this one seems to be lacking some management leadership or something. - the mgmt told us upon our arrival that the bed bug problem had not been rectified (6 months later??) actually the term was "under maintenance" BUT it is one of only 2 motels in town that allow pets, as the other - from the looks of it- I might catch a scorching case of the crabs and possibly get mugged whilst staying there, just saying read more
