I'm rating my move in experience which happened in November. It was horrible and i'm still very disappointed in the management at this apartment. this is my second time living in this apartment complex. first time was when i was living with my parents & in school and now i have a family of my own. we were denied seeing the apartment prior to move in even though we already paid & signed the lease. i tried to compromise and ask if maintenance could take photos, that was denied as well. interestingly enough, the same parent company controlled the apartment i lived in in florida and their management and maintenance team had no issue doing it for me. when we moved in, the place was not satisfactory. yellow stains on the hallway bathroom, black stains in the toilets, broken porch light, broken patio sliding screen door, peeling paint from the tub refinishing, deep scratches on the sink & the stove, they steamed the carpet but didn't vacuum...imagine wet dust & what can that produce?? you got it, MOLD. good thing we noticed and brought out fans to dry it & then vacuumed about 6 times before getting an empty vacuum bag. it was gross. the showers were NASTY. i still don't feel like they are clean enough. would i recommend this place? no. mainly due to the ladies in the office. i would much rather hear from someone from the parent company Hunt Pacific than deal with them. Training in customer service is needed and this is coming from someone who trained hundreds of customer service agents. May God bless them though. read more

I lived at La Serena for a couple years. I only moved because I got a new job and wanted to live closer to work. The apartments are beautifully renovated and very quiet. They're also located in a great area. I'd highly recommend it as a great place to live. read more

I moved to the apartment last month. I am vey happy with my move. I was fortunate to move in a fully remodeled unit. Nice quiet, clean neighborhood, near to schools and many stores within a mile that I walk to. My neighbors are friendly and say hi. I love the apartment plan: lots of light, very nice kitchen, lots of storage space and a large balcony. I like the fact it is gated after hours. Assigned parking space is wide which I really appreciate. Maintenance response is very fast. Staff at the office are very responsive. Expect delays getting to apartment between 1:45-2:30 PM weekdays since all the parents are picking up their kids. read more

I am a new tenant at La Serena and I couldn't be happier with my decision to move here. There wasn't a vacant unit to view during my timeframe so I made my decision based on the pictures on their website and the Yelp reviews. I will admit, I was a little apprehensive before I picked up the keys but now that I have been here a little over a week I know that I made the right choice. Herlyn and Adreanne are friendly and very responsive, both before and after my move, as is Ruben, the maintenance supervisor. I have had several minor fixes that were needed and he always arrives within a few hours of my request. Now that's customer service! The complex is clean, quiet and my unit is spacious with tons of storage space, which I really need. Shopping centers, restaurants and the 15 freeway are only a few minutes away which is also a plus. I can honestly say that I found a home at La Serena Apartments for 8 years to be exact. The location of both a middle school and high school was the main reason for choosing La Serena Apartments. The community was always very clean, the apartment living was spacious, and management was always welcoming. Being a resident for over 8 years, there were certainly more than a few calls for minor issues in the apartment. However, Adreanne and Lyn took care of it like pros. The other staff members of La Serena were always welcoming as well and willing to help which was always appreciated. Sadly, I moved out of La Serena and moved to Illinois just a few weeks ago and the transition out was very smooth. I am so happy that my son and I got to call La Serena Apartments home for the time that we did. I emailed the assistant manager, Lyn, to schedule a viewing of their 2 bedroom 1 week prior. When I arrived she came to the door and talked to me through the glass (I had a mask on), she said they didn't have any 2 bedroom to view. When I confirmed I emailed her she asked me to prove it to her by showing her my phone. She then disappeared for 5 minutes, opened the door by 2 inches to hand me a paper. She said I am able to walk around the complex and view the outside but not go inside. Very unprofessional and I was very disappointed in her service especially seeing her title as assistant manager. read more

My husband and I lived in the La Serena apartments for three years and loved every second of it! First off, the apartments are beautifully renovated! We were blown away by how fresh and new everything was when we moved and it stayed that way the whole time we were there. The grounds themselves are also so beautiful! They are very well maintained which made for excelled walks around the complex. The La Serena team is fantastic to work with! Whenever we submitted a maintenance request someone had fixed the issue in just a couple hours. Sometimes we would even submit a request and someone would be at the door in minutes to fix it! Everyone on the staff is so friendly and helpful. And lastly, the location of La Serena is something that cannot be beat! It is in a quiet and safe neighborhood located 5 minutes away from any store you could want! We were so spoiled having everything so close. It was a tough decision for us to move as we loved our time in our apartment. Anyone who chooses La Serena is making an EXCELLENT decision! read more

I absolutely love living at La Serena. The units are large and clean with a great layout on a beautiful well-kept property. Nice, quiet, friendly neighbors who seem to stay for years. Adreanne and Herlyn, the office staff, are cheerful, helpful, and really care about the tenants. They take the time to answer questions not only about the apartments, but also the surrounding area. I only had to call for the maintenance staff twice, and Ruben was courteous, efficient, and quick to respond. He replaced a fluorescent light in my kitchen and told me to call if I needed anything else. Who doesn't want to hear that? A couple of items that would make it better are a kitchen cabinet upgrade, and an electronic rent payment. These are minor things in an already wonderful apartment community. read more

Let me start off by saying that La Serena is an absolute gem! Their newly renovated apartments are gorgeous and conveniently located, the staff is friendly and responsive, and the area is safe and quiet. When I say conveniently located, I mean it. I joke with my friends that this area is a "suburban wonderland". If your interests include raging in PB or clubbing in downtown, then La Serena probably isn't for you. But if being 5 minutes away from Trader Joe's, Chic Fil A, gyms, golf, sushi, breweries, and wineries sounds more your speed, then you're in luck! La Serena is also very well landscaped and has views of the mountains, trees, and golf courses depending on where you are in the complex. The units are spacious and have ample storage, beautiful kitchens, and their own laundry machines! These are things that I didn't think would excite me when I was a teenager... but here we are. And let me tell you, I'm damn excited about it! Part of me didn't want to leave a review because I didn't want others to be in on the secret. But hopefully sharing this review will bring me good karma for 2019. If you're considering a new apartment in the area, or considering a move to RB, then check out La Serena. But please only do so if you're a respectful neighbor and you don't suck (there goes my good karma). read more

We had been looking for a nice place for my dad for months and came across these beautiful apartments in Rancho Bernardo. Wanting the best for my dad after losing my mom, I had so many questions and Harlyn, the assistant manager was awesome and extremely helpful. The unit is spacious and bright. The kitchen is large with stainless steel appliances. These apartments offer easy access to freeway and shopping. The staff do a remarkable job of keeping the community beautiful. The maintenance team is quick and efficient. The very few maintenance requests that he had, were handled immediately. My dad loves his new apartment and its great atmosphere and the tranquility it offers with a well-gated living area. I moved here about a week ago and loved my experience. I was greeted by management with noticeable safety covid 19 measures, which was greatly appreciated. The transition was easy and fast, they made sure things were ready for my arrival and the unit was in great condition. Management was pleasant and was there for any questions I had before and after my move. They made my experience a great one. Love the complex. My unit looked great and was surprisingly bigger than the pictures show on website. The process was all done online and daily emails were responded within minutes. The complex is clean and well kept. Most of all everyone has been very friendly around the complex. The surrounding area is great and very nice. Good place to raise kids. Great job Management read more

I Don't live here yet but ive been contacting this apartment and office for the past week about renting here and i had a collection that i paid for before i did an application and we got a call back and the record indicated it was still there Luckily!! We had a very cool and sweet employee help his name is Terrance he offered to help get it disputed and helped witht he fix on my credit report for the application he was sooo coool and very helpful we need more managers and people like him in the Leasing apartment Business i will know by tomorrow if it was fixed and if i got the apartment im grateful thank you !:) read more

This place is RIDICULOUS! They call themselves a gated community. I have not seen the gate closed once the past week alone. I have maybe seen it shut 30 times in the past year, and that is only after I complained. Thank you for opening up my home to solicitors and peddling. So annoying. You can't tell the leasing managers anything because THEY DON'T CARE nor do they listen! This complex can be very noisy at times. Again, don't complain because the office will write you a nasty letter in retaliation for your complaint. There are also kids galore. Don't expect a quiet summer out at the pool, you will get 20 kids screaming and squirting you in the face with squirt guns...not even joking! The landscape needs major work! Lots of dirt areas not even filled in. I wish I could say better to get some nicer tenants in here instead but unfortunately I can't. On a brighter note, the units are beautiful and sparkling clean. Whoever designed the interiors did a fantastic job! They are very spacious, open, and bright. The walls are pretty thick; however, the air conditioning units are ancient and are very very noisy, especially in the summer when they run morning, noon, and night. Most units face out to the street or parking lot, which can get very old very quickly. Overall, I would say that if you don't care about living in a community with a D service level leasing manager and want something decent then this is your place. read more

I wanted to commend Herlyn in the office always being professional, courteous, and responsive to resident issues. She has exemplary customer service and is always a pleasant in her interactions with residents. I would also like to commend Gino the Maintenance Manager. Today, I came home to see that my water heater went out and my laundry room flooded. I reported the issue and within minutes Gino was at my door to repair the problem. I had been apartment shopping for a while, when I came across this Gem in RB! This apartment complex is AMAZING! It's honestly the most beautiful, complete, and perfect building structure I have seen. The amenities as well as the apartments interior are modern and impeccable. I felt a joyful rush of excitement just as a prospect of living here. In addition my experience with Lyn the Assistant Manager was excellent.  She is very friendly as well as professional.  Lyn, scheduled me in for a self-guided tour for my family that was beyond accommodating, she was friendly meeting us at the office door, professional, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, caring, kind, considering COVID restrictions on in person tours. My experience with La Serena, overall has been pleasant. The office staff are friendly and maintenance is prompt. Some of the things i was looking for in a place to live were square footage, washer/dryer in unit, central a/c and parking availability. La Serena had all of these for a pretty reasonable price. I took a look at surrounding complexes and La Serena seemed to be the best deal. The apartment itself is nice and spacious. Plenty of space for my girlfriend and I. She especially loves it because of the huge walk in closet. However, I do think the kitchen could use a makeover, mainly the cabinets and refrigerator. For the year that i've been here, they have made a handful of improvements/ repairs. They have repaved the parking lot. They painted the exteriors of the buildings and also worked on the landscaping. They also upgraded the gate system to allow cell phone function. Some of the things i wish they would upgrade would have to be the gym. It is small which limits the workouts you can do. They also don't allow pets of any kind. But all in all La Serena is a nice place to live. read more

We have lived here for eight months and couldn't be happier. We love the interior of the apartment with the beautiful kitchen appliances and counter tops. The inside is roomy with good size rooms and the whole layout is very nice. The one area that rates an excellent review is the office staff and maintenance. Adrianne and Herlyn are very nice to work with and they take care of any problem without hesitation. They get right on the issue by getting maintenance to the unit quickly or if necessary contact an outside source. The Customer Service tenants receive from those two ladies is outstanding and that is the same with the Maintenance Crew. Ruben and Tony are very friendly and thorough. We needed our fence repaired and their work was completed quickly. The fence now looks like a new one which we appreciate very much. read more

Highly recommend! I am active duty military, and they worked with me to ensure everything went smoothly, and that I had what I needed. The area was lovely, about 30-45 min away wine country, and from 32nd street naval base, and about 25-30 min away from Point Loma naval base. Area was very quiet and calm and the view was amazing! Pros: I lived here 2 years; quiet community. Clean apartment. Grounds are well tended. Quick response to maintenance requests. Cons: Heater system doesn't work! Neighbor upstairs also complained. Assistant Manager patronized me as though I didn't know how to use the thermostat? Maintenance came out several times unsuccessful. SDGE bills were too high so I purchased a portable heater. Kitchen counters & appliances are out dated. Ant invasion every few months in kitchen & bath. Rent increases have made it unaffordable. Upstairs balcony floors are not sealed properly causing my patio floor to be a constant mess. I had to put away my patio furniture. read more

La Serena is anything but serene! The hidden nightmare behind the gates. Gates that are often open. Why pay the gated community price without the actual closure. From the exterior, things always look hunky dory. Don't let the exterior fool you. It's blatant false advertising at your finest. Example- no pets, (lie). Several people have dogs that are not emotional support animals. There is literally dog poop on the grass and sidewalks. Quiet (lie)- children that are unruly and always playing on the tennis court at all hours of the morning, day and night. Obviously they don't have home training. This is the real La Serena experience. If you don't want these experiences, don't move here because that's exactly what you'll get. read more

The two women working in the front office, Adreanne who is the manager and Herlyn, her assistant, are the ones you will be dealing with when you move in here. Adreanne is a very serious person which is fine because she is not getting paid to be my friend. However I do not appreciate the racism and the discrimination that I experienced from her. From the very beginning, when she showed me the apartment, I don't think she believed that I would be okay with paying $1910 for a basic one-bedroom apartment. It was in fact outside when we were walking back to the office, I told her that I would take the apartment and she immediately increased the price she quoted me from $1,800 to $1910 per month because of the "view" the unit had from the balcony. The apartment actually list for around $1,800 online for a one bedroom. In fact there were no one bedroom apartments online for $1,910. Months later when I spoke to Neighbors, I realized that I was the only one paying that much for a one bedroom and everyone else was paying $1700 to $1800 a month. My first problem begin just a week after I moved in. My downstairs neighbor, who happens to be a very nice person, had her TV on so loud, that I can hear it through my closed windows very clearly. I mean I could hear everything, the commercials, the news, everything, and very clearly. My neighbor would have the TV on throughout the early morning hours after midnight each day and it was literally impossible to sleep at night. I called the front office and talk to Herlyn, and she sounded extremely rushed and bothered just because I wanted to talk to her. She conclusively told me that she would let my neighbor know about the TV volume and it will be taken care of. Well, a week went by and I can still hear the damn TV clear as day as if it was in my own living room and I wasn't getting any sleep. I had enough and the next week, I decided to go to the front office to speak with the manager Adreanne and Herlyn. I asked them what they did to try and stop the loud noise from my neighbor. It was at that moment that her Herlyn realized that she sent a notice to the wrong neighbor!! It was after that, Adreanne started vexing me and she started sending me threatening notices for ridiculous things to try and make my life difficult. There is the main Mexican maintenance guy who is basically like her spy and watching everything that I do and is always driving around in his golf cart trying to peek at my unit. Fast forward several months and it was time for me to move out of the apartment. I was going to move long-distance and had ordered a moving Pod, which I needed to place in one parking spot for only 2 days. When I contacted Adreanne to give her a heads up, she mentioned that they do not allow moving PODS to be stored in the parking lot. I told her that it was not going to be stored in the parking lot but I needed it there for only 2 days so I can put my belongings in it and have it taken away in 48 hours. She refused and said that if she allowed everyone to have a moving Pod in the parking lot then the parking lot would be "perpetually full of moving pods.". A very idiotic statement because not everyone moves on the same day, and not everyone who moves needs a moving Pod. Also, if she was so concerned about the parking lot being perpetually full of moving storages, then why did she allow a huge 26ft metal container the size of a semi parked horizontally and blocking several parking spaces for months?? So, I had to call Hunt Pacific Management and spoke to her boss, and got the approval from her to place my moving pod for 48 hours. The place was a nightmare to live in! Rancho Bernardo High School is right on the bottom corner of where the apartments are located and mark my words, the noise from the school will drive you crazy!! Every morning, vehicles line up the street of the intersection that leads into the high school and the excessive car honking and music is a nightmare to hear! The whole time I was living here, it felt like an adversarial experience where Adreannen and her puppet Herlin kept challenging me over everything. The apartment is so small and all the doors and even light fixtures were so poorly placed and positioned, I felt like I was living in a studio in New York City! I have never hit myself so many times in an apartment before like this one! I was constantly bumping into things and hitting myself! It was like it was built for playground children! even the parking lot was pathetic and the space is so small that it was hard parking a compact car between the lines so expect your car to be banged up when you park here! I'm glad to be out of this stupid and annoying apartment community that is built by the dollar store and the racist and incompetence of the to front staff ladies running this dump! read more

Horrible place to live! We noticed leaches,snail,rats,roaches,spiders,ants - almost all kind of pests. Couldn't control through their pest treatment. The management tries to squeeze money out of you wherever they can. When I vacated, they charged for entire carpet which costed me almost a month rent. Poor construction- you can even hear if your neighbor flushes his toilet. Stay out of this place!! Too bad, I can't give negative stars read more

She was able to answer all my questions without any hesitation. Although, the price was way out of my range I was very surprised by how well kept the property was and the material picked out for their newly renovated apartments. In 2011 I was searching for a two bedroom apartment and was fortunate to find a place in La Serena. I have been here since for a number of reasons: 1. I love the layout of my two bedroom place -very comfortable and roomy. 2. The management has done a terrific job to keep the complex looking great. 3. The response to any problem is handled immediately if possible; but certainly within a day. 4. There are no animals allowed, which not only keeps the place clean; but you do not have to listen to dogs barking at all hours. 5. Within walking distance to a high school and a middle school 6. Many stores on Carmel Mountain Road within a few minutes drive - Costco, Trader Joe's, Sprouts, Home Depot, numerous fast food place and restaurants. There are probably over hundreds of places within ten minutes of La Serena. I would highly recommend this place to anyone considering living in the Rancho Bernardo area. read more

Pros: It's a pretty nice neighborhood dominated by mostly upper middle class families (educated but unpretentious). Neighbors are friendly but mostly keep to themselves. The apartments are huge, with lots of storage and great soundproofing. I live by the pool and I can't ever hear a thing outside. Contrary to previous reviews (but I don't speak for the others), I've found the staff friendly and pretty helpful. They'll leave you little gifts and notes around the holiday time (the mailman will too). They'll call you if you after three days miss a rent payment, but they're nice about it. Moral of the story, don't be a deadbeat. Pool is nice for playing around in, tennis courts are nice, and all the public facilities are well maintained. Living here gives you membership at the community club, which has a bigger pool/hot tub/gym, a pool (billiards) lounge, and more tennis courts. Parking is abundant. Cons: No pets - really guys? This is by far the worst part of living here. Fitness center leaves something to be desired. The showers - my showerhead is about 5' 6" from the floor of the tub. If you are above average height, you'll have to bend over to wash your hair. Community is pretty dull, but that's the general atmosphere of Rancho Bernardo in general. Yes, they leave the gates open during business hours, but it's not like there are criminals outside waiting to sneak in and steal your shit. Kids can be loud when school is out. Usually, they'll sit around and talk loudly. Expect to find the pool dominated by toddlers and their parents during the summer. Sometimes, they'll do pretty dumb shit like skateboard in the middle of the parking lot, but they're not dicks about it and they'll get out of the way. They're all good kids - no problems with vandalism or harassment. The apartment is right across the street from the high school and middle school. Expect traffic during pick up/drop off. Things to consider: Apartments can be dark. They're really well shaded, which is good for saving on energy bills, but if you like the sun, you'll find yourself outside a lot. Apartments are old. The build quality and maintenance are good, but shit will break. read more

The management is very polite and maintenance guys service was very quick and prompt. The location is very convenient to everything. My wife and I visited San Diego many times since the mid 90's to be with our sons and their families. During that period we considered many different living options. Over 4 years ago we started looking at many apartments and condos in the area because we sold our home on the East Coast that we had lived in for nearly 50 years. We chose La Serena because we wanted all the rooms to have windows and lots of light. We have been very happy with our decision because the room arrangement is great, any problems with the facility are immediately handled by competent staff, the grounds are very nice with large trees, our view out the windows is nice, access to shopping, restaurants, and health care is very convenient, our neighbors have been wonderful, and as an older couple, we enjoy the mix of generations and cultures. read more
