What can we say about this Michelin Star restaurant. Wow wow wow. Their ever changing menu offers an incredible dining experience with breathtaking views of the bay. The waiters were wonderful but I have to mention how extraordinary the sommelier was. Located inside Le Sirenuse with a gorgeous viewpoint, there's no doubt this place is probably one of the most posh restaurants in town. With that in mind, expect to splurge. Here's my concise review: 1. Location and Ambiance: One of the most romantic restaurants in Positano. We were greeted nicely by the maître d'hôtel and led us to our table. Since the reservation was to celebrate our anniversary, we got primo table overlooking the water. 2. Wine and Libations: A lady had a cart of Champagne/Prosecco and if you want other aperitifs she will take your order. Great selections of wine (to be expected) some fairly reasonable and some are $$$. Like I said, expect to splurge. Our wine glasses were promptly refilled. 3. Food: We started off with zuppetta di cozze e vongole. The mussels and clams were fresh and seasoned very nicely. I ordered linguine alla putanesca *insert chef's kiss here*, and my husband ordered their ravioli special with ricotta and buffalo mozzarella filling in tomato and basil sauce. As expected, great dishes. The linguine was very flavorful with the right proportions of tomatoes, olives and capers. We ended our meal with 2 espressos and they brought a little dessert sample (small cookies topped with panna cotta). 4. Service: from start to finish the service was impeccable, very attentive. But then again you would expect that from such a place. 5. Cost: Pricey but not unreasonable considering where it is, the quality of food, and the service that you get. read more

Positano couldn't be prettier. I've wanted to go to this visually stunning place ever since Only You with Robert Downey Jr (*swoon*). Positano was planned, La Sponda, on the other hand, was not. That is... until I saw a photo of their spaghetti vongole on Instagram and just had to have it. I guess I eat with my eyes first. Not only was the spaghetti vongole as delicious as it was pretty, the restaurant itself was the most beautiful restaurant hubby and I have ever been to. It was also the only Michelin-starred restaurant we went to in Italy. Everything was perfect: the attentive service, the well-executed food, the gorgeous view. Even the dinnerware was whimsical. But my favoritefavorite part was a happy little champagne cart that a jolly man pushed around. Of course we had to get something from the cart. Something pink. Pink just felt like the right color for a celebration at La Sponda. It went well with my vongole, hubby's John Dory, and the silky eggplant we ordered as an appetizer. La Sponda is not easy to get to, because Positano is not easy to get to, but I think... that's what makes them even more magical. You count your blessings here. I was on a cruise with my family, and we were coming to Positano for our second time. My dad had said he wanted to "have a nice lunch with a view overlooking the city"... I thought about how challenging this might be- navigating the inclines and declines of Positano with a hungry family of 6...so I turned to Yelp. Let me just tell you- this lunch may have been the highlight of our trip. We struggled to find the place (the story of our vacation, really)...but it was well worth the search. I had misread one of the reviews thinking the Prosecco they serve at the beginning of the meal was free- but it wasn't... oops. Expensive mistake. Regardless, it was delicious. Every single appetizer, entree and dessert we ordered was AMAZING. The bottle of red wine we had was delicious. The only thing that was better than the food was the atmosphere. An elegant, yet casual patio- overlooking the whole city. The service was outstanding. As someone else mentioned, the price reflects the food and service- so not a place to go on a budget. But so worth it if you can swing the bill. My hard to please restauranteur dad was very impressed- and my whole family talked about this lunch for the rest of the trip. We truly enjoyed our dining experience at the 1 star Michelin rated La Sponda. We wanted a memorable dinner on our last night of our honeymoon in Positano...and La Sponda delivered all across the board. Ambiance - gorgeous views of bay of Positano. We enjoyed a cocktail at the Oyster Bar while waiting for our 8pm reso. Service - expected of a Michelin rated restaurant. Managers, Somm and Servers are all very knowledgeable about the food and are attentive without being intrusive. Food - We both enjoyed the tasting menu with wine pairings. All dishes were a nice balance of seafood and meat; wines were perfectly paired by the somm. Live music which added to the beautiful evening. Great choice for our final dinner in Positano! read more

They constantly went unmatched and it was probably unfair that the standards were set this high for the rest of our time there, but, we do not regret it. Most disappointing meal I have ever had. Came for my wife's birthday and got the 6 course chef's tasting. We left after the 3rd course. Payed $500 to leave after 3 courses because my wife and I were sick from the food. This is the first and probably only yelp review I will ever leave, I made an account just for this, it was that upsetting. This is by far one of my favorite hotels in the world!!! We are greeted upon our arrival kindly and were given a tour around our breathtakingly stunning room. There's a beautiful view and easy access to the beach and restaurants. Our bathroom had awesome amenities and was white marble, double sinks, separate, luxurious bath and shower. The staff is ever so pleasing with any request you may have, and their restaurants and bars are top shelf. Breakfast alone has the best view and the food is delicious. If you're in Positano, and you can swing it (it's not cheap!) please stay here- I promise you- it's worth it!!! read more

5 stars for service and view. Food portions were small, but everything was on point. We ordered amberjack carpaccio, spaghetti with clams, beef filet with crispy salad, and tiramisu. I have high standards for meats and I'm wary of ordering meat in Italy since most of the time it's over-cooked. The beef filet we got was cooked perfectly medium rare. I had to salt and pepper to taste, but I was very happy to eat quality meat. The spaghetti with clams had lots of clams for its size and was super buttery. Tiramisu was pretty standard. We are staying at the hotel and after nice sun bathing, we decided to grab lunch here with no expectations (how can it be that good at the hotel pool side restaurant). I was completely wrong. I ordered spaghetti vogole and it was one of the best pasta I have ever have, period. Perfectly cooked spaghetti with balanced clam sauce, perfect portion, it was mouth drooling. My BF ordered ravioli capresse and it was very good. Next day, I ordered fried calamari and shrimp, again, it was out to this world, not greasy at all and perfectly seasoned and came with thinly slightly ed vegetables fry as well. My BF ordered boring club sandwich, he said it was good quality sandwich, it wasn't mandarin oriental Bangkok good but it's still good. read more

We were too last minute to get a dinner reservation for the Michelin dinner menu so we came for lunch. The view infront of the balcony was AMAZING. Probably the best view of the cliffside houses of Positano on the island. But the food was mediocre. We paid $47 CAD for a clam spaghetti, $23 CAD for a basic lemonade, $18 CAD for a basic iced tea, $10 CAD for water... that's robbery. If it didn't have the best view and we weren't on our honeymoon, we wouldn't have come here.... read more

Hard to even rate this experience properly because we just stopped in for a drink on the terrace, but I would recommend that at the least to every tourist! We were told by friends at home to be sure to stop and it was well worth it and conveniently located close to where the SITA bus drops off. Drinks are crazy pricey but you're paying for the unbelievable view, not the 18 euro Aperol Spritz. Our villa made us reservations here. But when we arrived, they said our reservations were for the "oyster bar". We think that they gave our reservation to someone else. There were other couples like us at the "oyster bar", which you don't even need reservations for. And La Sponda was only half filled. We reluctantly ate at the oyster bar, which was dark, with sub-par food and service. The oysters were 30 Euro for a half dozen. The sauces for the oysters were amazing. The octopus was chewy, and the veal was chewy and fatty/ cold. We could not see the food we were eating. But twice the price as anywhere else. We would not come back here to eat. read more

Amazing location right in the middle of the town and the views are extraordinary. If you were traveling to Positano this is the hotel you definitely want to stay at. This service is spectacular, they go out of your way to accommodate you and they even remember your name. There's Michelin star restaurant that has a beautiful romantic ambience. You will need to book in advance on the high season. The champagne Oyster bar is a great place to go for a nice cocktail before dinner, it has a live DJ that plays great lounge chill music, stunning on the patio. Perhaps one of the most incredible places we have ever stayed. Positano on the Alamfi coast is drop dead grogeous. And Le Sirenuse - the only American Express Preferred property in Positano - is on the cliffside (as is everything pretty much), in the middle of it all and has probably the most beautiful views in the world! This is coastal Italian luxury as it's finest. The rooms are mostly unique as this was a private villa so each room is a little different, and all are beautifully accomodated. But it's all about the view. We were on the 4th floor (of 7) with our baloncy covered in bougainvilla had one of those "picture perfect"incredible view of the li gilla islands in the distance. The property is immaculate. All day, every day, there were dozens of staff cleaning, painting, fixing etc you name it. Making it pristine. Everything was just beautiful. The hotel also has a fabulous spa, outdoor pool side restaurant, a Michelin star restuarant and a roof top bar - Franco's - which is the prefect before or after spot for a cocktail at sunset. The pool (one of only a few in Positano) isn't heated - unusally for us in the USA - but it was still awesome. Finally cost. This is one of THE MOST EXPENSIVE hotels we have ever stayed at. Period. While this was a special occasion for us, there were those that looked like this was how they always travel staying there. Luck them! But for us, this was a once in a lifetime experience that did not fail to deliver! Bravo! read more

From the moment we were seated for lunch, to the very end, this has to have been one of the best experiences I have ever had, top notch service by local Italian sommelier and staff, and exemplary food, paired with excellent wine recommendations, enhanced ten fold by the incredibly amazing view of Positano, made this experience an incredible one. La Sponda is a Michelin star awarded restaurant in Positano located on the third floor of Le Sirenuse hotel. The chef has worked for Alain Ducasse in Paris and ... in Macao. We came to La Sponda on a Friday night in July having made reservations a week in advance for 8pm. The restaurant itself is beautiful. They boast having 400 candles and they just might. Lanterns from the ceiling and the table also provide additional soft lighting. There are bountiful flowers and ivy on the walls and the tables are set in white with colorful glasses. The setting is open and airy with spectacular views of the sea and the multi-colored houses and buildings built on the mountain side. The view is spectacular.  The service is equally impeccable - extremely warm, highly attentive and proud of the restaurant and setting. They also have two musicians playing beautifully and surprisingly they were not at all obtrusive when they eventually came by our table at the end of the night. This was something I was slightly concerned about given some of the other reviews. The staff here knows they've got something great and our proud without and aires. When we arrived the maiter dei had a purse holder for my wife - and many ready to supply other diners as they entered.  We opted for the 120 euro six course tasting menu. In actuality it is more courses than that given the amount of 'extras'. Every single dish served was immaculately presented. Here is what we had: - Glass of spumunti (Italian sparkling wine) - crisp - Crispy breadsticks with olive oil - Amuse: A lightly fried tart with a caper olive and light white tapenade - light - Amuse:  Anchovies with a green gelee - wasn't a fan  - Amuse: Fresh raw vegetables with a yogurt dipping sauce - light and yummy - 1st course: Mackeral with a fried potato with minced mackeral inside - fresh and flavorful - 1st course: Warm vegetables with truffle - amazing and one of my favorite dishes. The vegetables were warm but still crisp - Bread: The bread was phenomenal. The local and wheat pieces were soft inside with a perfect crust and the olive and baguette were also excellent. The local and wheat were some of the best I've had in awhile - Wine: The wine list here is awesome but even their wines by the glass we're excellent with a lot of choices. I had light but complex white from Abruzzo and then a Brunelo later. Kudos again to the service as even with the wines by the glass they let you taste it. The wine glasses were also lovely - Virgin Cocktail - my wife is pregnant but was able to order from a long list of virgin cocktails and settled on s delicious and fresh Mango Guava mocktail  - 2nd Course: Scampi soup - very tasty much like a light bisque  - 3rd Course: fettuccine with clams - so good - essentially the best pasta vongole you will have - 4th Course: John Dory grilled fish with vegtables - super fresh and flavorful - 5th Course: Veal with vegetables. Super tender even though my wife wanted it cooked a little more through. One of our waiters played the dish at our table  - Pre desert peach and lemon - I don't know exactly what this was but it was great - Desert chocolate cake in milk sauce - also very tasty although I liked the pre desert a little more - Small cookies including a chocolate a marshmallow and a cheesecake gelee served with a glass of limoncello. These profiteroles were all excellent even though I was stuffed at this point  The price at the end of the night was 300 euro. Not cheap but the restaurant is worth it given the views, service and food quality and presentation. If you have the opportunity to do a 'nice dinner' with your date - you can't go wrong. read more

Amalfi aficionados claim Le Sirenuse makes Positano. Well La Sponda makes Le Sirenuse. The hotel is not as glorious as nearby San Pietro in my opinion. But the food - there's no competition. Amazing meal. Our favorite restaurant on the Amalfi Coast. We started with summer vegetables with truffles. Followed by crayfish linguine and truffled macaroni. Both the pasta dishes were to die for. The blue lobster with olive oil is a staple at La Sponda and keeps diners coming back. I only have great things to say about this restaurant. Such an experience! Staff is over accommodating and so friendly. We couldn't move without someone trying to assist us which I thought I'd hate but actually loooooved. You are going to spend a lot of money here but you feel no need for anything. They send you home with a little cake which was so moist and delicious. I was coming to Positano for the day and decided that I wanted to treat myself to an elaborate lunch. I had seen photos of La Sponda on Instagram and knew that this was the place where I needed to stop over for lunch. I am SOO glad I did! The restaurant itself is so beautiful and the view is just breathtaking, you think you've just walked into a painting. The service is superb and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and chivalrous. And the food...wow. I was dining alone, but I ordered 3 courses to myself (living my best life) and each one was brought out in the most beautiful fashion, incredible presentation and AMAZING flavor! I already know I'll be back in Positano very soon, as I really fell in love with the town. And I will DEFINITELY be back at La Sponda for dinner this time, to enjoy the views at night :) read more

The staff and management are truly happy you are there and insure every step of the way, you enjoy your stay. We stayed at Le Sirenuse so we decided to eat at 1-Michelin-starred La Sponda. We came from the oyster bar of the hotel so we thought we were not going to eat so much but we were wrong because every plate that passed by looked so good. We were seated right away and the service from the beginning is on point! We ordered our drinks right away as we already know what we want to order. We ordered a hors d'oeuvre, primi and entrées for each of us. I totally did not jot down the names of the dishes but the restaurant's menu changes. I believe we had sort of tuna tartine which was refreshing, light yet scrumptious. For primi, I believe it was spaghetti with clams and lobster. The pasta was cooked al dente and the seafood was just sweet and leaves you wanting for more. For the entrées, I got the sea bass (of course!) and I forgot what my hubby ordered but he finished it. The sea bass came with medley of veggies including my favorite, flash fried squash blossoms! The bass had crispy skin and it was flaky fresh - they poured some type of accompaniment for it and it complemented the fish perfectly. I feel so bad that I don't have the exact names for the dishes but that shows you how excited I was of my dishes that I forgot to take a picture of the menu and noted the stuff I ate! We were so full at that point to even have dessert so we just finished our bottle of wine and chatted with our neighboring table - they're from LA! Overall, the experience at La Sponda was a memorable one. We are definitely going to go back and will recommend this restaurant to anyone that visits Positano even if you're not staying at Le Sirenuse!! read more

Immediately after sitting down, a waiter arrived with a trolley of Champagne for us. 2. Location - This restaurant overlooks the harbor outside of Positano, as well as the signature church. It's the most beautiful view I've experienced at a restaurant. 3. Ambiance - Romantic. It's a candle-lit restaurant set in the hills of Positano overlooking an ocean filled with boats as well as the beautiful cliffs of Positano. It's also in an exceptional hotel (Le Sireneuse), so just arriving there really sets the mood. 4. Food - Excellent, no complaints. I've had food as good as this at other top-tier restaurants, but the location, ambiance and staff really set La Sponda apart. I recommend having a drink at the hotel bar before dinner. read more

The food was much better than we feared it was going to be, though generally not that good (the seafood spaghettoni was, exceptionally, delicious) and certainly not worth the high price. Good wine list. Nice view and great bougainvillea growing inside the restaurant around its vaulted ceiling. At one point the guitar and mandolin playing pair of musicians - who played loudly all evening, including 4 bouts of Happy Birthday and two of Here Comes The Bride - played the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme music and the layers of (surely unintentional) irony were delightful. We wanted to stay at Le Sirenuse but couldn't justify paying the room rate so we did the next best thing: went to La Sponda for my birthday dinner. The restaurant is beautiful, and there wasn't a bad table on that terrace. There were guys that came around with a guitar and mandolin playing Italian music which added to the magical atmosphere. As mentioned by some of the other reviewers here, the food was quite fancy and though it was delicious, I'm not sure it was worth the high prices. The hosts, servers, and sommeliers were all knowledgeable, but service seemed a bit hurried and stressful -- but maybe it was just the night we were there. All in all, it was an unforgettable experience and I'm glad we went -- definitely once in a lifetime. read more

Didn't have dinner here but came here every night we were in position for drinks and appetizers at the champagne bar. Cannot begin to express how beautiful the views from the outdoor patio are. Servers were very prompt with our orders and the drinks were delightful and well made.
