This place is pretty mid. Definitely one of those popular tourist spots, super busy and staff is rushing around compared to other local spots who let you enjoy and take your time. The food was nothing special and didn't taste as fresh as all other spots we visited that week. Not that its their fault but definitely had a few bad mussels in my seafood salad. We did enjoy the beach club aspect but nothing special
Il Pirata is a love letter written in wine, salt air, and candlelight. We had a bit of everything on the menu, and you can't go wrong. The pasta melts like Sunday grace, the wine hums low and warm, and the view... Lord, the view will make your heart skip like it did when you first fell in love. I celebrated my birthday here, and the staff, precious, kind-hearted folks, surprised me with a celebration so sweet it near brought tears. This place isn't just a restaurant. It's a memory you'll carry, tucked gentle in your soul, long after the sun slips behind the cliffs.
Il Pirata was a recommendation from a family member who visited Praiano, so we had to check it out when we stayed in Positano. Definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. It took a minute to find the restaurant because you have to walk down a lot of stairs to get to the bottom of the mountain (like most places along the Amalfi Coast). The food was AMAZING -- one of the best meals when we were in Italy! I had the pasta with anchovies at the recommendation of our server; I'm not an anchovies gal, but this was DELICIOUS. The ricotta and pear cheesecake was also one of the best that I've had. Would highly recommend. And of course, the views are amazing!
BEAUTIFUL dining location on the Amalfi Coast. Don't recommend uncomfortable heels as the whole area is known for walking ant it's a bit of a walk from the main road down onto the restaurant. Food was fresh. I recommend their mussel clam dish but not their fish dish. Their calamari also missed the mark for me. None the less, a beautiful memorable atmosphere and experience. Our server was young, fun and had lots of recommendations - not only for the restaurant but also for the area. The backdrop is perfect for instagram worthy pictures here!
I've been stalking this place for monthssss and hoping we would have time to go!! It is hands down, one of the coolest bars we have been to. It's inside the edge of the cliff directly on the water. Stunning views, very kind and attentive staff, and fantastic drinks!! I had a limoncello spritz and hubs had an Aperol spritz to start then we had the best limoncello shot, which was chilled. They also gave us an array of snacks to much on, all were good. Would 10000% recommend Il Pirata! Loved it!
American review: (I always say this in case other Americans are looking and wondering) The view is nearly impossible to beat. Service is good but can be a tad slow for us Yankees. However it's Italy. Why are we in a hurry?? Pricing for the portion size borders on absurd. $30 euros. for 10 noodles and monkfish? It's beyond NYC absurd. $20 euros appropriate. Charging for water and bread (very Italian) Charging a COVER charge? What is this a nightclub! Michelin star restaurant?? (This was new to me having been to Italy in 2019) Having said all that - it was absurdly good. I know I know - how can I complain about pricing when it's good?? Pricing still just too absurd. Still four in my book is excellent, I'm a tough grader.
When I first glanced at this restaurant I was thrilled to tried the food and dine in at such a spectacular looking place. The ambiance of this place was something I haven't experienced before, with the inside area being carved into the rock formation creating a luminous cavern. Unfortunately, the area inside was too small to host our party but we got a great view by the water. On arrival the server was extremely attentive and catered to our every needs. I placed an order of calamari and espresso martini to start with as our party arrived. The calamari at first glance looked delicious but after a couple bites it was just bland and tasted like grease to be honest. Nonetheless, I finished it and was excited for the drink and entree. The espresso martini was really the highlight of the night for me. It was the perfect blend of sweetness and coffee. This really took the show from everything else. The entree, unfortunately, was also unmemorable. I had ordered the spaghetti clams excited to taste what appeared to be a tasty dish only to be disappointed. The spaghetti was fine had great flavoring but nothing to rave about. It was just bland for my taste. I did end up trying some other dishes like the ir pirata soup, which was better but nothing to scream over. Overall the experience was lovely and worth trying this cavern by the sea but don't think I'll be stoping here if I were to be given another chance.

Sign me up. After our boat ride to Il Pirata, we had definitely grown an appetite and were ready for dinner! With us being right on the water, you can only expect the seafood to be incredibly fresh. It was so fresh that they actually brought the live animals on a platter to our table! The Tre Tartare was incredible - super fresh and each tartare had a different flavor palette. The pastas were both well-made. We ended with the Tortino Ricotta e Pere which was light, creamy, and sweet. All in all, this is a good spot for dinner. It's super romantic as well; we watched a proposal happen right below us.
Loved Il Pirata! Came here twice in our time in Praiano. Such a beautiful location. Came for lunch one day and I had the seafood pasta, delicious! Also stopped in for drinks and we had some lovely spritzs and some snacks. I just sat for an hour and looked out into the water and watched the boats come and go. Their bar is in a cave, how cool!! Outside dining was nice and breezy. You can take a scenic walk after you leave around the cliffside. A few other restaurants nearby and a little cafe in the same area. Very limited parking down there, so recommend to take a bus, walk, or get dropped off.

Such a cool restaurant! The views are spectacular!! They get very busy so make reservations. (Although they did find room for us ). Several people had birthdays while we were there and it turned into a couple minutes of a party where we all were singing. It's a good time! Food was great and service was good. read more

Il pirata is an incredible restaurant for the views. We were sat at a table at the end of the row that seemed like the best table in the house. We had burrata with prosciutto that was amazing, zucchini flowers, pasta ragu and the seafood pasta. While it was all decent, it was overpriced, guess for the ocean view. read more
We actually ended up staying in Praiano and including Amalfi Coast in r itinerary b/c I really wanted to eat at this restaurant built into a cave and sitting on the cliffs of the water. Well, it wasn't worth building a trip around it, but we did really love Amalfi Coast so in the end it worked out. As for this restaurant, I wouldn't go for dinner. Food just isn't very good. If ur in the area already (not spending crazy $ to take a water taxi or drive a distance), stop by for a cocktail. Having a drink here is worth it if you're nearby so would definitely recommend that. The bar is the only portion that's part of the cave and truly, many places along Praiano and neighboring areas r built into the cliff so it's not all that special. Unless you're arriving via water taxi, the walk to this place is a lot so wear shoes that u love to hike in-lol. We paid an additional 15Euro/pp to have VIP seating right along the water. Not worth it. U could easily sit on the patio and have equal views and experience. One of the nice things about Europe is often that they don't rush u as much as US restaurants. Not here. They were ready to grab r order immediately and when we asked to start with a drink and appetizer then order in a bit, they told us they had to put in r complete order at 1 time. Seems odd since they were able to add drinks as needed, but whatevs. The linguini with anchovy (it was more of an essence) was amazing! Would totally recommend it and we don't even like anchovies. However, everything else was meh to bad. The lamb ribs were a pile of fat and not good. The filet was really overcooked so rough to eat. The tagliatelle with ragu had almost no meat in it. Probably spent $100usd pp without alcohol and would definitely not recommend for dinner. *Tip - if you're walking back up that huge hill after drinks/dinner, stop off at the hotel just above Il Pirate and have a cocktail or dessert there. They have an elevator that will take u up to the top street that u can use if you're either a guest or dining there. I promise u it's worth the $ for the ride. read more

I love this place so much. My husband and I came here twice while on our honeymoon, once for a romantic dinner by the water and again for the beach club. I cannot recommend it enough. The food is AMAZING and the espresso martinis are really nice. read more

Views were great! The ambiance and service were great, and that's what you pay for. The food was not great (I got the Zio Rico and it was extremely salty; my husbands dish was bland). read more

Immaculate vibes all around Giorgia who handled the whatsapp reservations was so kind and prompt, quickly answering my questions about WiFi and Parking (there's a parking lot right at the end of the road that you drive to by the beach where they'll park it for you for 3.50 euros/hour!) and even helping me get a lounge reservation the day before. I went on Sunday and spent a wonderful day there at the beach club, enjoying the anchovy flatbread (one of my favorite dishes so far!) and some coffee and had a dinner reservation at 7 to enjoy the sunset. Between the beach club and dinner reservation I hung out at the bar deck area and got a whole bottle of wine to write my wedding vows for my wedding next week! It was absolutely perfect and they even provided a variety of snacks. I ended up sobbing writing them (I love this man so much!) but everyone around me was so sweet. That will be a core memory for me to look back on fondly for years to come. My waitress Giulia was super sweet and helped me decide which courses to get (the pasta with the yellow tomatoes was out of this world!) and even got the owner Rino to sign their cookbook as a wedding present for me and my fiancé. He left such a sweet message and took the time to come over and chat, and really made me feel like family! I enjoyed my experience so much I went back yesterday to get more work done at the beach club, and everyone greeted me so warmly. It feels as though I made old friends and extended family in my short visit. I can't wait to bring my future husband here in a few weeks after our wedding! Lunch review: I debated on 3 or 4 stars here and ultimately went 3 Bc while the view is incredible the service was irritable and the food was pretty good! My biggest problem was that our Server was incredible rude and grumpy - and after 3 weeks in Italy (and having worked in food service) I feel as though I can distinguish between cultural differences and just irritated personnel ... we had the latter. No matter - again the view was DIVINE. Make a reservation if you want to sit on the railing but regardless - the view is insane. We had: Hugo spritz (st Germaine, prosecco, lime) - awesome Amalfi spritz (limoncello, prosecco) - fantastic Mussels app - basic but delicious Seafood risotto - salty af, but good Tagliatelle w/amberjack - good, well flavored and filling. Overall - for sure go here for a bite before (or after) taking a swim in the best swimming hole in amalfi - you won't be disappointed - just calibrate for irritated service. read more

Had the delicious baby calamari and they did not disappoint, also the fried seafood platter was pretty good with the sardines cooked to perfection. The lemon crème sponge cake was good. The views are amazing, the vibe and atmosphere is special, especially at sunset. The bar drinks are quite good size and strength. Was so nice we dubbed here twice since we were staying in Praiano. read more

Another amazing restaurant in Praiano! Getting to IL Pirata is quite a trek, so make sure you wear your walking shoes. But at the end of your journey, the food is more than worth it! Our waiter brought over the fresh catch of the day to let us choose from and even let my partner hold the lobster for a photo. The calamari with mint was probably my most favorite part. The entire restaurant is built into the side of the cliff, so you get amazing views of the water. We even went on a rainy day but it was still lovely and photo worthy! read more

What an amazing setting for a romantic evening! The waves were crashing, lights were dim, bar cave was lit up and so cool. The staff was great, food was amazing and drinks were delicious too. The staff made sure we had a taxi waiting for us over by the beach entrance. Would like to see this area in the daylight. read more

Wow! My favorite restaurant we went to during our 10-day stay in Italy. II Pirata was a short walk from our Villa and we heard it had some amazing views. It's a little hidden, but there are signs from the main street that direct you to the restaurant. After walking down a couple flights of stairs you will make it and the views are worth every step. We went around sunset time and the water along the coast was glowing. It was breathtaking! We started our night with a round of cocktails and I opted for the lemoncello martini. It was presented nicely and had a great flavor- not too tart. We also got the fried ravioli and ahi tuna, which were both delicious and fresh. My friend got a dirty martini and he claimed it was the BEST dirty he's ever had! He was obsessed. For my meal I got the seafood risotto, which was loaded with fish, crab, mussels and clams. The risotto was more rice that true risotto, but it was delicious - great flavor - super fresh! Now the highlight of the night was our dessert. We all got a round of white russians (recommended), and I kid you not it was the most delicious white russian I've ever had in my life! The cream was whipped and placed on top - perfect for sipping. The flavor was unreal! I talked about it all trip. Hands down you must end your meal with this cocktail!! I will definitely plan to go back on my next trip to the coast. It was simply amazing. The staff, food, drinks, atmosphere - all on point! ps. They have an awesome bar next door that you must check out, owned by them too! read more
One of the most memorable dining experiences of my life. Came in by boat, anchored in the water just below the restaurant, and walked up the bluffs to this charming, multi-tiered patio overlooking the ocean. Beside the patio, they chiseled into the cliff to make a cave, where they built a beautiful bar into the rock face. Don't know that I'd rather be anywhere else for lunch. Drinks and food were top notch as well. read more
