    Entrada - Appetizer. Mixed Tapas

My first time in Guanajuato and this restaurant is highly recommended by my hotel. Its a great restaurant, very cozy and intimate. I was greeted by Alberto, the chef/owner. Alberto was helpful and his recommendations was perfect. Mixed Tapas was perfectly prepared. Paired with the House Red wine. For main dish, I ordered the Steak. It was very good. Its tender and just melts in your mouth. Im surprised that its one of the best steak Ive ever had. Alberto and his staff are all excellent host. Alberto came around the many tables to greet the guest amd also asked if everything is okay. Love the atmosphere of the place. I wanted to return again before I got bavk but I was disappointed that it was closed Monday and Tuesday. Highly recommended.

Food was good, but cold. Service was on point and prices were cheap. But they did nothing to fix the cold pasta that was ordered.

You get an option of 2 main dishes to choose from and typically most people go for the Enchiladas Mineras. You can get the Enchiladas with or without chicken. Unless you are a vegetarian, go for the chicken. The chicken is so soft and flavorful and the enchiladas have the perfect seasoning. The cheese, carrots, potatoes all are such simple but powerful additions to the dish that you cannot help but almost lick your empty plate within minutes. The pickled jalapeños and carrots that are served on each table are so delicious and the jalapeños have such a nice kick to complement this dish. I also ordered the hibiscus juice, which honestly has such a large serving and is a must here! The place does get crowded at around 7pm with a line, especially since there are not that many seats. After almost an hour wait (trust me it is worth it), I was seated. If you come alone or with just one person, chances are, you will be sitting with strangers and making friends as you eat.

Unfortunately, for us anyway, they didn't live up to their promise. It's a fairly long taxi ride to get to. People talk about the "amazing views," but only a couple of tables can see them, and they are not at all amazing. Just a jumble of houses and utility wires with some hills in the background. The restaurant itself is very charming and warm, and the staff is polished and welcoming. Things started off well with the nopale appetizer, a very delicate but umami-infused dish. But then the main courses were very disappointing. I had the sous vide beef short ribs with a tlilchili sauce on a bed of a few black beans and red onions. Sounds great, doesn't it? I was expecting "fall-off-the-bone" short ribs. Instead I got a dried-out chunk of meat that I could barely cut with a knife. Terrible. I could only eat part of it. My partner ordered a chicken dish that was bland and also a bit dry. We both ended up leaving half of our entrees - which we never do. We were still so hungry, we had to get tacos from a stand by our hotel afterwards. Not worth the effort or the price in my opinion - such a let down.

We were fortunate enough to get a window table with a perfect view of the iconic Teatro Juárez. What a treat! The moment I tasted their tortilla soup, I was transported back in time. I first tried it twenty-five years ago, and with the very first spoonful, memories flooded back. It is still just as rich, comforting, and absolutely worth trying. Our party of three ordered the Menú del Día for only 300 pesos, which included an entrée, a first and second course, and a choice of coffee or dessert. Oh my goodness--the quality was outstanding. From the careful presentation of every dish, to the exceptional flavor, spotless restrooms, gracious staff, and unbeatable location, Casa Valadez easily earns five stars from me.
