I had such high hopes for this place. I'd read many good reviews about the food and atmosphere, and the photos of their specialties were mouth-watering. Unfortunately, for us anyway, they didn't live up to their promise. It's a fairly long taxi ride to get to. People talk about the "amazing views," but only a couple of tables can see them, and they are not at all amazing. Just a jumble of houses and utility wires with some hills in the background. The restaurant itself is very charming and warm, and the staff is polished and welcoming. Things started off well with the nopale appetizer, a very delicate but umami-infused dish. But then the main courses were very disappointing. I had the sous vide beef short ribs with a tlilchili sauce on a bed of a few black beans and red onions. Sounds great, doesn't it? I was expecting "fall-off-the-bone" short ribs. Instead I got a dried-out chunk of meat that I could barely cut with a knife. Terrible. I could only eat part of it. My partner ordered a chicken dish that was bland and also a bit dry. We both ended up leaving half of our entrees - which we never do. We were still so hungry, we had to get tacos from a stand by our hotel afterwards. Not worth the effort or the price in my opinion - such a let down. read more

If you are looking for a romantic intimate place to dine this place is perfect! If you are ever visiting the beautiful state of Guanajuato,Mex I highly recommend to dine here. The location was kind of difficult to find because the restaurant is located in a residential area and its basically a house transformed into a restaurant. It is located on top of a hill so there is a beautiful view of the city. We started with queso fundido which is fried cheese and it was delicious. I went with their signature dish which was a pork shank cooked in pinto beans sauce. The dish was incredible!! The meat was so tender and juicy and it completely fell off the bone!! I was very impressed with the dish. My BF went with their signature chicken dish and it too was savory and delicious. I especially loved that their tortillas were stamped with the local town logo, that was a very nice touch. Prices are very reasonable!! Total bill including drinks and appetizer was around $30 which is incredible!! read more

Quite delicious. The pork shank was excellent; other menu items were really interesting and good interpretations of classic Mexican dishes. Example they made a chorizo but out of tuna rather than pork, was excellent. The chili relleno had a non traditional sauce which I liked a lot. Nice quiet area in the hills far from centro. So you normally need an Uber to get there; which is fine. Great wine list and nice service. read more

Our family was blown away by the flavors at Casa Mercedes, it was the pinnacle dining experience during our 10 day vacation in GTO, SMA and CDMX. The mole dishes were outstanding and different than anything we have ever had before. We had the lengua pecan mole, chicken pistachio mole, and fish with chile mole. They were so flavorful, complex, and elegant while being homey and light at the same time. These are very special family recipes. Thoughtful presentation. Make sure to save room for dessert too! The owner is very nice and the service was awesome, the restaurant is on a hill so there's nice views and we got a chance to see a part of Guanajuato that we otherwise would have not seen. A quick uber ride from centro. If you are anywhere in a close vicinity to Casa Mercedes, I give it the highest recommendation. Definitely one of the best restaurants that I have experienced - in the world. read more

We had a few items and since we don't eat meat, they accommodated by substituting a few ingredients for us and everything was excellent. I think this restaurant is actually called "Casa Mercedes". One of the best restaurants, along with Mestizo, we visited during our 6 days in Guanajuato. All dishes were authentic upscale Mexican with superb quality ingredients and appealing presentation. Drink with Mezcal very good, and the pork shank was off the bone good. Dessert was bunuelos with honey and coconut whipped cream. Elegant dining room, had a table by the window (at sunset). Very romantic. Highly recommended. read more

A restaurant worth going if you really value mexican food. It's not your typical plate, it's even better. Casa Mercedes takes advantage of a lot of ingredients and they place them in various plates. We wanted a nice dinner on our last night in Guanajuato and Las Mercedes did not disappoint. We arrived without a reservation but they still accommodated us. We were greeted with great service and the Jesus came by to explain the menu and the idea behind their restaurant. The atmosphere was cozy with live music that added to the ambience. Their signature cocktails were very good and refreshing. I had the capon soup which was very good, the rest ordered the chorizo appetizer and were very pleased. My wife ordered the beef tongue in a mole sauce and gave me a taste...it was nothing short of amazing. I ordered the Corte de rez but it was substituted with slow cooked beef rib and black beans. The combination of the fresh tortillas, melt in your mouth beef rib meat and the pickled onions was delicious. We tried all the desserts and my favorite was the corn bread. Then came the check...I opened slowly because some of the reviews said it was overpriced. I was pleasantly surprised, the meal was fairly priced for the amount of drinks, appetizers, meals and desserts. Easily would have cost us double in California. I cannot wait to return to Guanajuato and surely will be having dinner here. read more

Worst fine dining experience ever! Please note: if you or someone you're dining with has any type of food allergy please beware and DO NOT dine here. My husband has a peanut allergy and I asked the waiter 3-4 times to confirm whether the dishes we were eyeing would be safe and they reassured us every time that is was safe. Unfortunately that was false, he took a bite of the appetizer and within 2-3 minutes we knew it had peanuts! We were extremely disappointed and appalled by the lack of concern about the situation. If you consider yourself to be a fine dining establishment all wait staff, cooks, chefs MUST know their recipes and ingredients. It's obvious their staff is inexperienced to handle this type of situation. It's very unfortunate since it's considered to be one of GTOs finest restaurants. Please beware! read more

Disappointing. Was so looking forward to celebrating my girlfriends birthday at this highly recommended restaurant. Turned out to be a very disappointing experience. Waiter forgot to put in our order for the special appetizer after acknowledging our order by asking if we would like it after our salad. When he brought out the entrees we asked about it and said he didn't know we wanted it. No admission of the error. The entrees chile rellano and short rib)were both delicious however the chile was definitely more of an appetizer portion. When I made the reservation I noted that we were celebrating a birthday and again mentioned it to the waiter while he was takin our picture. No recognition of a birthday with the desert not even a candle. This is an expensive high rated restaurant by Guanajuato standards and the experience did not live up to our expectation read more
