Reminded me of a pop-up type food stall manned by one person, putting out unusual and homemade takes on popular classics (in this case, pho). So I had to stop in while sightseeing in the middle of Copenhagen. Unfortunately, the pho wasn't good.
It's a one man operation, where you place your order with him (paid 149 DKK, converted to $23.26) at the front, and then take a seat in the back of the 10 person dining room. The pho came out soon after, with one bowl being given, and all the limited toppings being put right on top of the broth. The soup was the right temperature, but didn't taste like it was based on cooking beef bones for a long time. Instead it was a bit oily, reminding me of a typical beef stock made of stew meat. It hadn't really been flavored with Vietamese spices (especially star anise). There was only one type of meat, raw beef slices that cooked medium rare in the broth. Wish it had been sliced more thinly and had received more than a few slices. The toppings were a lime wedge (which was appreciated), cilantro, red chili peppers, green onion, and a green leafy herb that was supposed to be thai basil but didn't taste like it (thinking it might have been culantro). The noodles were the thick variety of banh pho, cooked well.
Didn't see my server again. After I had finished off the meat, left the rest there and set off. Glad I tried it, but can't recommend, even for a night as chilly as this one was. read more
