Two friends and I share a delicious lunch here on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. In addition to ordering a couple of items from the regular menu, two of us shared a special Thanksgiving sandwich (roasted turkey, cranberry sauce and dressing). Everything we had was delightfully good. Serving sizes were generous, flavors were spot on, and the service was appropriately attentive. A gem in downtown Silver City. The food is amazing and you do get the feeling Chef makes your dish specifically for you. If you are in a hurry or "hangry", go another time. Wonderful food! Walked by this small bistro before it opened and it looked nice so we returned for dinner. The menu varies based on chef Jason Pierre's preference. This night the choices were limited to three Italian-style entrees which came with soup or salad. The chicken soup was fantastic, extremely flavorful with a delicious broth. The salad was also excellent. Ordered chicken parmigiana and it was delicious, with large thick tender perfectly cooked chicken with pasta and very tasty sauce. The spaghetti and meatballs was equally good; wonderful meatballs, delicious sauce and perfectly cooked pasta. Monsieur Pierre (who working alone was host, waiter, chef, sommelier, etc.) was friendly and personable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is comfortable and attractive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As each meal is cooked to order it of course takes some time to get one's meal here; if you're in a hurry it may not be the right choice. Unexpectedly happened upon this laid back French bistro when we spent the night in Silver City. Our spinach ravioli and chicken marsala were flavorful and reasonably priced. We enjoyed our bottle of California wine and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the charming vintage atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was casual and friendly. Without doubt the worst restaurant experience of my life. We arrived for our 7pm reservation on a Saturday night. We were informed that all the specials were gone but no big deal, the rest of the menu looks very appealing. My wife and I both ordered French onion soup to start, my in-laws ordered Caesar salad to start. Two people ordered pork as their entree, one a rack of lamb and one chicken masala. We had read reviews re. Slow service "but it's worth the wait", so our expectations were realistic (we thought). After about 30 mins the French onion soups arrived and the waitress said the Caesar salads were on their way. The waitress returned 5 mins later and said there was no rack of lamb and then 2 mins later to report there was only one pork but she could get us a filet instead (which was not on the menu). So we ordered one pork, one filet, one cod and one chicken. The onion soups were now finished but no salads had arrived, the waitress said the chef was having to make more dressing??? It's now 40 mins since we've ordered, we've received half our appetizers and have been informed that half our entree orders have been changed. While still waiting for his appetizer to arrive my father in law is served a filet steak, it's cooked to the right temperature but it's cold! The waitress informs us that we should pretty much give up hope of receiving the rest of the appetizers. Then the cod arrives, it's hot but the cod has been so over cooked it's rock hard. 10 mins later the pork arrives and it's cold. So now we have 3 entrees on the table that have arrived spread out over the course of 20 mins, but 2 appetizers and 1 entree is still missing. Bear in mind this place only has seating for 20 some people, an amateur could cook for this small a place. Finally the chicken arrives but without sides, they arrive 10 minutes later!!! Only one of the four entrees has been served hot, the entrees and sides have been spread out over 25 mins and two of the appetizers have never been served. Then this clown of a chef comes out and makes a speech about how he only does this out of love and these phlebs sitting in the restaurant are all ooing and aaing over him like he's Thomas Keller. People in Silver City must be crazy or desperate if they think this place is anything but a complete disaster. Avoid at all costs, this "chef" has no business running a restaurant. read more

The menu is not what is online and with limited choices having two of the three main dishes were not available. It was only 630 and they were out of most of the menu!!! We got a salad and water and left since they had nothing to offer. No wonder the table that was there before us left even after the "chef" spoke to them . We were thrilled to find an option to the Mexican and American bar food restaurants located downtown in Silver City. La Vie Est Un Bistro was wonderful. The salads, soups, and entrees were cooked perfectly for our group of four on a Friday night. When we made our reservation, they gave us a heads up that it's BYOB so we brought some wine. Walking in, we knew we would have a relaxing and special dinner. We spent about two hours enjoying our meal and returned again on Sunday for brunch. The chef treated us to homemade soups while he cooked our chicken and waffles and croissant sandwich. We look forward to returning the next time we travel to Silver City. read more

Went for lunch with a friend - the food was absolutely fabulous. I started with Chef's lentil soup and fell in love at first sight. This is a small, intimate venue perfect for a romantic meal. A perfect place to go with a friend for fine food and long conversation. My sister is visiting from out of state next week, guess where I'll be bringing her for a superb supper. read more

Spoiler alerts 1) A FRENCH restaurant; you don't get it YOUR way, or with FRENCH fries. 2) In civilized countries, a meal lasts ONE hour, and there will be conversation, including with the chef. 3) If you are a rich, English-speaking tourist living on a Caribbean resort island, DO NOT come here! Also, DO NOT see the film "The Taste of Things" with Juliette Binoche; you will HATE it (In French with subtitles; 2.5 hours long, and almost all actions take place in a kitchen or a dining room). Unless you are a glutton when it comes to mocking the French. 4) This a two-older person operation; they only make a certain number of portions per day. Earlier when we reviewed this wonderful restaurant, we had visited many times and had given it a five-star rating, but only on the basis of luncheon visits. We had found chef Jason C. Pierre's soups the best we had ever tasted, and all his dishes, each indidually prepared with care and singular culinary skill, so delicious as to be far above any other to be found in our town. Now that we have sampled his evening fare, we find the same high level of excellence, with generous servings at unbelievably reasonable prices. His seared ahi tuna and his chicken marsala are so good that we cannot imagine them tastier. Visited with a party of 6. Two people received salad 30 min after ordering. It was another hour for the rest of the party to get salad. Similar with the food. One or two people got their food after an hour. Going on two hours, and two of the party are still waiting for the entree. Food was sub-par. Service was terrible. Nice location and ambiance. Perhaps it was a bad day, but we won't be back. I'm guessing that the 3 other parties that left without being served won't be back either. read more

My partner and I had really enjoyed lunch there. The establishment is now open for lunch on Mondays which is when we had a meal. The food was excellent, the ambiance is very casual and relaxing, with high ceilings and jazz music in the background. The chef is a very warm, inviting individual and we had a good time chatting.
