Ambiance: Inside it feels a little crowded with the table I sat at close to the door and the checkout counter. There is more space in the back. Service: The service was good, replacing the chips and ensuring the water was refilled. Food: The chips and salsa were good. The chips are not too salty and the salsa is mild. The queso is one of the best I've had with a light consistency. For an entree I had beef nachos which were ok but I prefer more queso. Parking: There is plenty of parking. Making our way from Omaha to Oswego and decided that we wanted to have a quick lunch. Cancun is conveniently only 3 or so minutes off of I80. We seated ourselves and were greeted and served in a timely manner. After being served we were checked on a few times but once our plates were empty, we waited a bit before getting the check. For such low lunch prices, it cost us only a little more than if we would have eaten fast-food. They were absolutely slammed with business...several delivery drivers waiting at the door said they had been waiting for well over an hour. Once we got past the delivery drivers, we were seated relatively quickly but the service was slow due to how busy they were. The Jalapeno Cucumber and Mango margaritas (see pictures) were served in plastic glasses - again, likely due to how busy they were. While they tasted great, the presentation wasn't quite as nice as the heavy glass goblets they usually serve. We always enjoy the chips and salsa (see picture) here - the chips are fresh and the salsa is thick and hearty. Lastly, for our meals tonight we again ordered the Ceviche Mixto (see picture) that we enjoyed previously and while it again tasted great, it wasn't served with any crackers (we used our table chips) and the price seemed a bit high at $24. Both my wife and I agreed that the highlight of the meal though was the Orden Shrimp Tacos (see picture) - with both of us commenting that they just might have been the best shrimp tacos we have ever eaten! read more

I arrived earlier than my son. Seating is questionable as there wasn't anyone at the door to direct you so I headed to the bar. The barstools are too short for the bar to eat so I had to ask where to sit. After I sat, service was immediate. Water and chips. Then the server came and took my drink order. I let him know that my son was coming and he was on his way. My son arrived and noone ever returned to our table. I tried to get eye contact with the stubby bald headed server. He stopped by the table next to us but never looked over. After 30 minutes, we got up and left and headed to El Rodeo. Had a wonderful meal and the service was outstanding. Sorry Cancun. We stopped here while visiting Iowa... we should have done a better job looking around, or driving downtown... Chips were stale, the fajita meat... wasn't even fajita meat.... The steak was pounded to oblivion and the chicken looked like the extra bits off a chicken breast. Both tasted like they had no seasoning and were over cooked. A child could season it better. My wife changed jobs and we decided to explore around her new office. LOVE Cancun! Huge fan of the Steak Fajitas and guacamole! The food is just solid! No surprises on the menu but I've loved everything so far. The drinks are cold and right and brand with good Mexican beer and margaritas. The service is excellent and kind. And the food is fast even when it's completely packed. The one down side is that it's in a strip mall and there's a lot of fluorescent lighting but that's a nice different kind of ambience for great comfort food! read more

We gave this place many chances since we live less than a mile away. 3 strikes and you're out. When I have to wait 40 minutes for a to go order after I watch people that walked in and ordered after me get their food first. The thing that made it bad was that a manager or person in charge couldn't come and say anything to me. They sent the girl that seats you over to bring me my food. Terrible experiences. First time here.... We love Mexican food and I hate to be a bad guy/critic and knock this place because the service was excellent! Great people, and an awesome atmosphere... However, I had to ask for hot sauce to spice up my salsa and Queso as it didn't have much flavor . Aside from that, the chips were great and warm and fresh! Our meals were great so really no other complaints!! I ordered the chipotle burrito with chicken and loved every bite! We also ordered the pork El Moro Chimichanga which had an amazing mouth watering sauce. Overall good experience. Went with a party of 5 on a Wednesday night and got seated right away. Very fast service and it was great, friendly and attentive. We all ordered tacos of some sort but I will only speak of mine that I ordered. I order the Tacos De Charola. These were huge! Lots of meat, so great for the price. The tacos themselves had a lot of flavor BUT they were a tad bit salty so after like 1 1/2 tacos I couldn't handle much more of the saltiness. Rice was good, it's hard the find a Mexican restaurant with good Spanish rice but the beans had no flavor, very plain. Overall good time and good food. We will be back! read more

Was in the vicinity and in mood for Mexican so Cancun Cantina it was! They have indoor and outdoor seating and it was pretty full at 8 pm on a Wednesday. The food was delivered fairly quick and the food was delicious. I tried the new menu item pollo poblano, chicken breast with grilled poblano peppers, onions n mushroom n cheese n green sauce. Not spicy the kiddo had chicken chimichangas and he really liked it and the hubby had combo fajita ( chicken m shrimp). Confession time: We've been sticking to Cancun's taco salads for a while, but we recently switched things up and tried their house specials and a few others. These dishes turned out to be flavor bombs, and we're genuinely satisfied with our updated takeouts. Can't say that about many takeout places these days. IYKYK. We're from Colorado, and picky when it comes to Mexican food. Cancun did not disappoint. We arrived just 30 minutes before closing on a weeknight, were greeted with friendliness and had crisp chips and individual bowls of perfectly spiced salsa along with a carafe filled with extra right away. The creamy white queso we ordered was delish! The house margarita was just right- limey and not too sweet. I had the $10.99 Thursday night fajita special which arrived hot with freshly sautéed peppers and onions, and all the yummy sides. My guy had a combo plate with tasty chicken enchiladas. He added a Chile Relleno which was a Poblano served soft in egg batter smothered in green. Everything was delicioso and affordable, too! We will definitely return. read more

I discovered this place several years ago. I was in the area for a few days and didn't care to travel far for something to eat. I ordered the Fajitas Texana and was not disappointed. There was plenty of Asada, Chicken and Shrimp in the dish. The first time, I dined in. Pretty nice setting. It has that Authentic Mexican feel. The service was top notch and the staff was very attentive even when the place was packed. I wondered if the food would be any different if I got takeout and to my surprise it was just as delicious as it was in the restaurant. Stopped by Cancun Grill and Cantina between my second and third shifts today. It's just off of 121st and Douglas in Urbandale. Now all I can think about is taking a nap... I can't remember the name of the dish. It was camarones gua...something. It was a dozen jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon on a bed of sauteed onions and queso blanco served with all you see, your choice of tortillas, and a side of rice. The bacon was crispy, the shrimp wasn't overcooked, and the vegetables on the side were all fresh. The rice was light and fluffy and complimented the rest of the dish. It was a perfect accompaniment...well seasoned but not overpowering...it let the shrimp stand out as the focus of the entree. The restaurant is clean, the service was fantastic, and the food was very good. The layout hasn't really changed since the location was a Cozy Cafe, but it sure seemed brighter inside today. That could have just been because of the beautiful Iowa weather outside. I was long overdue to stop in here since it's within a couple of blocks down from my second job. My bill was $15.88 before tip for my entree, a soda, and they provide complimentary chips and salsa. What I was missing today was about three friends. For such a small physical footprint the restaurant has an extensive menu. This would have been a great place to do a community style meal where you could sample a little bit of a few things. It's obvious the staff has passion and pride in what they serve here. In every picture I've seen from here their plate presentation is some of the best outside of true "upscale" dining I've seen. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it's obviously not just thrown on a plate before it leaves the kitchen. I really wanted to try the guacamole I've seen so many pictures of. But I just had no room today... Next time I'll bring a friend or I'll order just the guacamole and an appetizer. I'd write more, but it's back off to work I go. I was just hoping it didn't suck as I was parked at the truck stop next door with few food options nearby. It turned out to be the best Mexican food I have ever had. I got the Brothers Burrito and some guacamole and A Margarita. Everything they put in front of me was over the top excellent. They make there own homemade hot sauce which accompanied my Burrito along with a green sauce. It was crazy good. If I stop in Des Moines again I know where I will be eating. read more

One of our favorite Mexican places! Consistently has wonderful service. They also tend to change up their menu and add new items. My family generally goes for and loves the Seafood Burrito which does have scallops in it! Carne Asada Tacos are consistently good! I also really enjoy the chipotle chicken and steak chipotle burrito. They also have house specialties on their menu but we stick to the regular stuff! My review is only for the Mexican street style tacos with white onion, cilantro and sliced radishes on top. Being on the west side of town there isn't too many options for authentic Mexican food - a lot of Tex-Mex options. Filling was adequate on two corn tortillas. Below were the meats I tried on the tacos: Carnitas with pineapple - very flavorful and pineapple was a nice twist Chorizo - not disappointed at all and tasteful Carne asada - very good White queso dip - tasted good and a little on the watery side. You get chips and salsa while dining in. They also have spicier salsa if you ask. I would say medium spicy level. Churro dessert - fried churro with chocolate drizzle, whip cream and cherry on side. First of all the food was really good I got the combo fajita and other than only getting two or three flour tortillas, I imagine I could have asked for more or now the bad part the service was slow, slower than usual. But that wasn't even the most disturbing part. When I got home I checked the bill, there was 3% added because of credit card, okay fine. I don't think anything was stated in advance that they charged the extra. But when they charge you extra for a decent hot sauce, that's really petty. Their house salsa is bland, and their hot sauces decent but at a dollar 85 you think they'd throw that in. This was my first time here but I was throughly impressed with the food and the service. They are also expanding the restaurant so definitely more seating available. They serve the traditional chips and salsa to start off. My friend and I asked for some spicy sauce and said so spicy that it would make us cry. Lol most places would just give the traditional semi spicy sauce but wowzers they delivered on the spice factor. They whipped us up a special batch and used Carolina Reapers in their salsa. It was so damn good!!!! The staff was very attentive and the margaritas were spot on. I had some steak, my boyfriend had a seafood dish and omg it was so good. The salsa was so-so, the queso tastes like it was out of a can, and the mushroom quesadillas I got were gross....so gross I couldn't finish them. Also, my marg to go was $6.99 and it was way too sweet and seemed to have little to no alcohol. I wanted to love my experience here, unfortunately I did not. Cancun is quickly becoming one of my favorite, if not my actual favorite, Mexican restaurants. Located in Urbandale, it's just right off the I80 Douglas exit. They have daily specials, like discounted tacos on Monday, that make this place even more attractive than it already is. The carne asada tacos are stuffed so full, that one or two could be plenty for most, especially after chips and salsa. Service staff is one of the best that I've ever been served by.
