Our food was amazing and the service was excellent! It was a beautifully mild September afternoon, and we decided to dine outside under a tent that was pitched in the restaurant's parking lot, near the entrance to the building. We were told to sit anywhere, and our server came by immediately to offer beverages. I ordered a michelada ($8) and it was the same awesome cerveza preparada that I'm used to enjoying back here at home at a few of my favorite Mexican restaurants. My friends ordered margaritas, and they looked similarly impressive, particularly a watermelon margarita. Its cloudy appearance looked to contain fresh watermelon puree instead of some weird watermelon liqueur, and it was adorned beautifully with fresh fruit. Dinner was outstanding. I enjoyed fish tacos ($11) for a lighter dinner, and they were served fresh, hot, and delicious. Besides sliced red cabbage, there was a condiment of pico de gallo that had some minced jalepeño, that was crunchy and super fresh, and topped with a creamy chipotle sauce. Absolutely perfect. Service was prompt and courteous, and while we were dining, staff came out to the tented patio to celebrate a few birthdays of other guests with joyful song, making the experience very festive. Prices were extremely reasonable, at least compared to where I'm from, the Twin Cities. The portion sizes were enormous. My friends had to request boxes to take home about 2/3 of their dinners. So normally an experience like this would warrant five stars! Well, our experience was slightly marred by waiting interminably for our server to collect our cards for payment. As it turns out, guests are expected to self-pay inside the restaurant at the counter. This requirement was not communicated to us, and I ended up walking in and out of the restaurant with a heap of paperwork to sort and pass out to everyone at my table to sign, then I had to return inside to give the pile of receipts and pens back to the cashier. This payment inconvenience is very inconsistent with the rest of the experience. It would never stop me from returning, obviously, because the food is so outstanding. But I may not remember to warn anyone of the unusual step of having to manually pay at a counter when the whole rest of the experience is full service. read more

I think this is good mexican. Nothing fancy or amazing. Salsa didn't have too much chili powder. Guacamole had no chunks of tomato, onion or cilantro. Had a fajita chicken salad and the chicken was smaller pieces which I liked. I would try something else the next time I am in Indianola. read more

Every time I drive by this place in town, it puts a smile on my face. Great place for celebrations or just to take family for a night out. No matter the occasion, La Casa doesn't disappoint. Their service has been wonderful every time, no matter how busy they were that day. I try to order something new every time I go but I always love their tacos, fajitas, and enchiladas. I also can never say no to their Mexican churros. They serve them with raspberry, chocolate, and caramel syrups. I prefer the caramel. Their margarita selection is phenomenal. We periodically make trips to Indianola primarily for Theisen's and always stay in the area for lunch. This last trip, we decided to try out La Casa as the parking lot is always full when we pass by. It has to be good with that many cars! It was rather busy inside but they quickly cleaned a table and seated us. The place was bustling with people. The chips and salsa were nothing spectacular. Since it was lunch, we stuck to that menu. My husband had the Burrito California and I had the Chicken Chimichanga. Both were large and delicious. I loved the taste of the chicken filling and peppers inside mine. My husband's burrito was massive and I was surprised he could finish it. We will make more trips to La Casa in the future. read more

We were in I-town for bike night. The hubby was craving Mexican and according to a local this is the only spot in town. The locals I talked to said if there was anywhere else they would go but I found our experience really good. Even though it was a busy night for the town they sat us immediately. We must have just missed most the crowds as they were paying and heading out. Our waiter was offering us drinks and very attentive and nice. When we weren't ready he hurried off to check on other tables real quick, He kept our waters full and our chips full- which I thought the chips were fresh and warm and the salsa was good ( if you like mild ). I ordered just a couple of soft shell tacos and Hubby got the burrito California. It was huge and he loved it. We had a really enjoyable time and everything was done and out in reasonable time. La Casa is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant in the metro. They get it right each and every time! The staff are very friendly and quick with food. The restaurant itself is clean and inviting. The food is delicious and hot. This trip was no different, but may have actually been a tiny better because the salsa had lots of black pepper in it. YUM! This is easily my favorite Mexican restaurant. I live in Virginia and anytime I am back in Iowa I will make the drive from Ankeny to Indianola just to eat here. The servers are incredibly kind, fast, and helpful. Shout out to José and Geronimo for making us (and the little kids with us) feel so welcome. The food is always amazing - my favorites have been the Texas Margarita, Fajita Quesadilla (it has queso on top of it - so good!) and the churros (seriously, order them - you won't be disappointed!). read more

Came here on a Saturday afternoon! It was empty when we came in and we got our food pretty fast. We ordered nachos and a steak burrito. Chips and salsa were good and fresh! Steak burrito was very good as well and so were the nachos. The service was okay, but we did have empty drinks several times with a wait on those even though the place was empty. I enjoy this place...especially given its location in a smaller town...I think it's a pretty great dining option. Quite authentic Mexican food with a large menu to choose from. Pork, grilled items, beef, chicken and even seafood. I really enjoyed my carne azada, their Tomales were exceptional. Good size portions presented handsomely. Full well stocked bar. This place seems busy - very busy at all times...which speaks well for it when I know many other local establishments are not nearly as busy. My only complaint might be that service can be a little cold and robotic. But the food will bring me back. read more

This place was great! Was here for business from Nebraska. Great service and food doesn't take long at all once ordering. Once seated they give you chips and salsa, so not much need for an appetizer! Wow!! This place is a gem! Was in town on business from Illinois. It's during the pandemic and Illinois is still closed for inside dining. It was so nice to be able to eat in a dining room. The staff at La Casa greeted us with hand sanitizer and sat us. The tables and place overall was very clean. I ordered the La Casa fajitas. Delicious! My husband had Shrimp Diablo, he said was delicious and the portions are very large. Their salsa was super fresh tasting and light crispy tortilla chips to go with it. I've been to Casa a handful of times and would love to write a better review but after my last experience there, I can't recommend it to anyone. The service on my last visit was probably the worst service I've ever experienced in a restaurant. We had to get up and go to the bar numerous times to get items and service we requested. No one came to take our order until we went and got someone. No one brought us our drinks until we got up and asked. No one brought us the extra items like glasses and napkins unless we got up and got it for ourselves. It was absolutely ridiculous. If that wasn't enough, there were more problems. I ordered a vegetarian selection that, according to the menu, didn't come with salad. I ordered a side salad to compensate for this, but when my vegetarian plate came--there was a salad! I explained to the waiter that the included salad wasn't on the menu, so since there were now two salads, I obviously didn't need the side one and he took the plate away. When I went to pay my bill, the side salad hadn't been removed from the total. I told the cashier what had happened and he told me that since they had made the salad it was just going to be wasted and that I'd have to pay for it anyways. Inexcusable, in my opinion. If you want to take a gamble here, go for it. The food itself is very tasty but truthfully, I'm not into being treated like a crappy customer. If you want my money, you need to work for it. That includes ACTUALLY doing your job and waiting on our table. read more

To begin with, let me tell you a little about me. I was born, raised and still live in southern California. I work in East LA, the heart of LA's Mexican community. I've been to Mexico a dozen times. I'm a total foodie. And this is some of the BEST Mexican food I've ever had. The chips and salsa were good, the margaritas solid, but the food was outstanding! I had the chicken chiles rellenos; my husband has the chile verde. I was worried they wouldn't use fresh chiles (my own personal unfounded Midwest prejudices), but was happy to see big gorgeous fresh poblanos stuffed with a perfectly seasoned chicken and cheese mixture, very lightly battered and fried. I love rellenos, but often find the chiles lost in the batter. Here the chiles were the star the way they should be. My husband (who grew up in New Mexico) was equally enthusiastic about his chile verde. The pork was seared crisp on the edges and tender throughout. The sauce was rich and fresh. Just the right balance of heat with an undercurrent of tartness. Overall a fabulous meal. We'll never again come visit our Indianola family without a visit to La Casa. read more

I've become a local (of sorts) and am something of a foodie. La Casa is one of the best restaurants in the town, and is comparable to other good mexi restaurants in bigger towns and cities. I lived in Southern California and will go so far as to say it's comparable to fare I had out there. It's kid-friendly, and you can still get a cold beer (Dos Equis!) or a great margarita at a really good price. I've come to know the wait staff, and a couple know that when I come in with my boys, we need queso dip with chorizo right along with our chips and salsa. I appreciate that kind of memory and service. I can't say enough good things about this place. Nice outdoor area, lots of seating, clean, fast service, typically short waits, and everything on the menu that I've tried, I've enjoyed. read more

Typical Mexican cuisine found in most Midwest Iowa towns. The facility was very clean and provided a great atmosphere. The food was very good, provided it does not compare to Southern California and genuine Mexican cuisine (I've spent time in Mexico City and Puebla) the beans were much too runny, almost like soup. My biggest turnoff with this establishment was its poor service. Nobody greeted me or seated me upon entering, I awkwardly stood in the entrance for quite some time and I reached out to three different waiters until one actually sat me down. None of the servers looked like they cared about the customers and they often looked annoyed when serving. They took a long time to approach me for my order as well as my check in the end. While the restaurant provides a nice atmosphere and the food is at par with most Americanised Mexican restaurants, the service was lousy and I don't plan on eating there again. read more

The cheese dip is the best queso I've ever had and the taco salad was delicious! They give you free chips and salsa to start which is also really good. Food was cold and the beef is pre bagged with no taste the tamale plate was messy like it was thrown onto the plate with mozzarella cheese. This place doesn't use 3 cheese blend on anything. The chili relleno was a cold mess soggy and rubbery. I wouldn't recommend coming here again for the simple that this place isn't authentic as is seems. I am sorry I went there today. My sister and I wanted to celebrate Cinco de Maya. They had a limited special menu, no doubt because they thought they would be too busy to handle a full menu. We were there shortly after 11 am. They took our order and said it would be 5 minutes. Since this was to go, we arrived home 2 blocks from the restaurant to cold food that had clearly been something premade and refrigerated. Tasted awful. This was the second time I tried them. By far my favorite Mexican restaurant that I have been to! Our favorite location for each of my family member's birthday dinners. We always seem to get a grumpy waiter though, however, he did make up for it by giving free tequila shots for my 21st. The large margarita is very large, definitely shareable... Lesson learned.
