Overall we had an absolutely fantastic experience of dining at La Vista Restaurant. This restaurant is located at the hotel Albergo in Milano. This was the hotel we were staying at so it was super easy to make a reservation with the hostess. The restaurant has one of the best views in Varenna. It overlooks all of Lake Como. The staff was extremely friendly, spoke English very well, and was very attentive to our needs. I went with the four course meal option, which was priced very affordable. Started off with the tomato mozzarella, the gnocchi was second, steak was my entrée, and chocolate mousse as my dessert. The entire table shared a bottle of wine, and we ended with espresso martinis. Everything was really good, I wouldn't say it was the best food I've ever had in my life, but it was good for the views, the price, the service, and the atmosphere. My only complaint is that I asked for a medium rare steak, and I got a well-done steak. If you want your steak, cooked, medium or medium rare, make sure you really harp on the fact to cook it correctly. I didn't complain or say anything because I was extremely hungry and it was starting to get late. We were the last ones to leave the restaurant, they let us stay on the balcony until midnight to continue drinking and having conversation. La Vista was the restaurant that ran in our hotel, and we were able to get a balcony seat right off the water for our romantic honeymoon dinner. The views were spectacular and the service was exceptional, the food was good just like all other food we had in Lake Como. You are paying for the view and a decent meal to go with it, and that's what the food was: decent with a heavy price tag. I would go back just because I love the hotel so much, but I will not be expecting a culinary masterpiece to die for here. read more

Shockingly dissatisfied by our meal. The service was fine and view was beautiful, but this is the worst meal I have had in a long time. Recognizing that I am somewhat of a food snob, I can generally be hard to impress... but this truly was inedible. Everything was under seasoned. Shrimp spaghetti tasted like a bowl of pasta in lake water. Please go somewhere else if you're in Varenna... there is excellent food just down the street. read more

One of the only rooftop restaurants we could find in Varenna. While the atmosphere was beautiful overlooking Lake Como, the food came short. We weren't impressed with the pastas, and we had ordered a bottle of hard cider that had gone bad. We did however enjoy the peaches and cream dessert. The servers were trying to rush us out as we were dining late, seemed to be a trend as most of Varenna closes down early. read more

Great venue for views of the lake and great food. One of the most beautiful sunset views you can get in Lake Como! We went during the summer, so it was quite hot but it was fine. I would time out the sunset and book your dinner here. For appetizer, we ordered the caprese salad, melon w/ prosciutto, and thinly sliced veal w/ tuna sauce. For our entrees, I ordered the big ravioli with scallops, prawns, and shellfish bisque, and my friend order the medallion of beef w/ pesto of pistachio and hash browns. All the food was excellent. Fantastic dining experience with an absolutely gorgeous lake view. Customize your three course meal for 40 euros, or add another course to make it 48 euros. Great ambiance/location, and great portions -- it was a little chilly in early October, but they provide lovely soft thick blankets. You can make reservation requests via their website -- we made a request in the morning for same day evening and got a confirmation within 30 minutes! Very close to the Varenna ferry station, just up one level of stairs. My spouse had the three course -- liked the tortellini soup, loved the guinea fowl wrapped in bacon with AMAZING potatoes, was so-so on the dessert cookies, but loved the dessert wine that came with the cookies. I got the four course (how can you resist a fourth dish for 8 euros when it usually would cost 18?!) - Loved the pigeon terrine with duck foie gras, LOVED the ravioli stuffed with white fish with scallops, liked the local sea bass filets with purple potatoes, and very much enjoyed the chocolate soufflé with pistachio sauce (waiter recommendation as her fave dessert). Looking at what other tables ordered -- would also recommend ordering the dessert cheese plate. It looked like it came with 7 different cheeses with enough sides to cover a 10"x10" plate! read more

The food was magnificent! The atmosphere is lovely with a great view from the patio. The menu is unique and all the food was delicious. We had a great dinner here. Great view, great service, great wine, great food. My boyfriend and I both ordered the tasting menu and had to be rolled out afterwards. Highlights were the "medallion" of beef filet - a full-on steak cooked to perfection over a pistachio pesto sauce - and the pasta with porcini mushrooms. On the pricier side but well worth it. The La Vista Terrace Ristorante is, without a doubt, the very best place for a great meal, not just in Varenna, but in all of the Lake Como area!!! The only thing that I enjoyed about this restaurant was the beautiful view. Otherwise, the service was very disappointing and the food mediocre at best. There were a dozen or more dishes on the menu that weren't offered that evening; no beef, no veal, etc. The appetizers and food items that we ordered were unremarkable; of the dishes we shared, there wasn't one that stood out as creative or tasty. Desserts were particularly disappointing; you know you're in trouble when you're in a restaurant in Italy and the tiramisu and panna cotta aren't good. Our server was quite unhelpful, slow, and appeared to be annoyed throughout the evening. Dishes were forgotten or didn't match what we ordered. There was one other very kind server (possibly a manager) who came by at the end to try to repair the damage, but it was too little, too late. Overall, despite the other positive reviews, I cannot recommend La Vista. As noted, the view is terrific, but there are plenty of other restaurants in Varenna with wonderful views that can provide a much better dining experience. read more

Perfect place for a sunset dinner, the view is spectacular. My husband and I both did the 4 course meal; we were both so impressed with our meal. I got the duck ham, seafood ravioli, some sort of fish in Parmesan sauce, and a creme brûlée trio. My husband got the carpaccio, mushroom ravioli, lamb shank, and apple torte. The prices were fair and food was fantastic. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. read more
