This was excellent. It's a tough spot to find from the main road and a long walk down once you find the right staircase, but we did it with two small children and lived to tell about it. On the food, the antipasto was really good and we enjoyed the missoltino and the cheese courses as well, but it was the rice with perch filets that we'll remember more than anything else. My wife in particular really fell in love with that. We also learned that they cook the rice in butter because in the old days it was cheaper to get butter to that area than olive oil, which I thought was interesting. read more

We dined there last night and found it to be a welcoming and delightful experience. We arrived to Menaggio late and it became difficult to find somewhere to eat. We were grateful that del Porto were able to accommodate us. The food was delicious and reasonably priced for a fine establishment with white tablecloths and impeccable service. Mostly locals Italians seemed to be present. The restaurant is in the Hotel Bellevista which is a bit dated, but the place is kept up well. Overall a very positive experience. read more

This place sucked! No photos since there was no point to take any. The restaurant was half full, but the staff seemed busy. I'm going to give the service a thumbs up and a pass since they seemed very overwhelmed (they asked if we wanted dessert 30 minutes after we ordered our main course. Totally forgot to put in the order for our main course). Lamb chops themselves were tasty but the dish as a whole gets a 6/10. This was by far the best thing on the whole table and still was just ok. Small pieces of lamb on top of a terrible polenta and veggies. Salad sucked 4/10. No dressing dry leaves. Spinach, egg, and duck liver. 5/10. Had some good flavors in there but way way too greasy. I won't speak for the other 3 at the table but they personally hated the fresh caught fish from lake como, the pesto was bland, and the lobster and fish spaghetti had a bad taste. It's a trap, don't do it. Probably the worst Italian food and weirdest we have maybe ever had. So unfortunate when you traveled from the USA too. Our hotel directed us here as I believe she was trying to recommend a more dressy romantic dinner by the lake. Unfortunately we should have known it was a bust right when we walked in and saw charcuterie boards unfinished, people waiting for food/drinks, and the wait staff scrambling. We got seated and weren't spoken to for over 20 min. Finally someone came as we were about to leave and we ordered drinks and food all at once. They placed bread on the table right away but no utensils or plates. I actually got up myself to grab a plate along with oil and vinegar - embarrassing to serve myself but it wouldn't have come to us if I didn't after waiting even longer than the initial 20 (and asking for it previously.) Drinks were great which is why this gets one star! Bartender deserves props for that. The view is amazing as well. Food we didn't even finish and barely touched. Realized we were only eating it because we were hungry and finally stopped. I ordered the taglioni and it tasted like nothing that I expected or wanted. My boyfriend ordered the pesto gnocchi and it was awful. It was mushy gnocchi and had actual harder chunks of potatoes and bits of green beans in it...what????? Not normal or good. Just don't do this place, walk down into the town and find something else and save yourself. read more

This restaurant is a total nightmare. How do you call yourself a fine dining Italian restaurant in Italy, when you don't even know basic ingredients in simple dishes? Upon arrival, my girlfriend and I were immediately seated in a great location overlooking the water... but that was the only thing passable about this place. It took 20 minutes to get helped. Upon ordering, it took another hour to receive two minimal pasta dishes. I got Gnocchi. Sounds simple and tasty. Awful- I couldn't even choke down half the dish. Yes, I know Gnocchi is made with potatoes, but when do you start putting potato chunks bigger than the pasta in it, it makes it very unappealing. Coinciding, the pesto had no olive oil and used green beans instead of pine nuts and basil. You basically received potatoes and a cringeworthy chunky green dressing on top of it. My girlfriend got the Tagliolini- which was really dry and had so many olives in it, couldn't taste anything other than that. After voicing our complaints to the manager, nothing happened and we waiting for someone else on the wait staff to walk by and pay. This place is flat out an embarrassment to any Italian restaurant. Go around the corner to the square as there are ten other places who actually know how to cook a meal. read more

It was completely by luck that I stumbled upon this gem on the water. I had what very well may be the best meal of my entire month long adventure in Italy here. The ravioli were absolutely incredible, and the foie gras appetizer changed my life. Simple yet incredible. You could tell everything was made fresh in house with the highest quality ingredients. The only downside to this dinner is I can't go back without traveling 20 hours. read more

I have been traveling to Italy for 30 years and this is the first time I have had an absolutely terrible meal. The Ravioli was inedible and the waitstaff and managers were unsympathetic and told us "don't cry, you order you pay". What? Who says that in the restaurant business. It was really terrible and I am sorry to write this review but they would not take it off of our bill or apologize. This is one of the most romantic restaurant in Menaggio. The food is excellent and the service so classy like the food. Great for couples...it's quiet and takes reservations. We had the lamb and sea bass. Magnificent! read more
