This place is amazing. The deserts are great the food is amazing. There are so many good flavors and the guy behind the counter is great and super friendly. I wish they were near me in Texas lol. The owners are so nice and provide attentive service. The inside is very clean and there is decor to remind you of la isla. Now the food. I got to try a little bit of everything. Carne frita, arroz con habichuelas, mangu, vegan mofongo, maduros, pollo guisado, pistachio flan, tres leches. Everything was delicious, but the carne frita was a little dry and could be juicier. I drove all the way from Syracuse to go here specifically because although Syracuse has Latin food there are not many Puerto Rican-centric restaurants. One thing that is really nice is the sides are all vegetarian. Sometimes beans and rice can have meat but these are great for vegetarians! Great spot right off I-81, easy on and off. read more

For the most part food choices in Cortland range from mediocre to abysmal. But not this place! Finally some flavor! Tried this spot for the first time yesterday and was super impressed with the food. We got two pork shoulder plates, rice, beans, maduros (sweet plantains) as our sides. Pork shoulder was delicious as were all the sides. Also ordered two guava pastries and two beef empanadas to go. Pastries were also delicious and so were the empanadas. The empanadas could use a bit more meat or less pastry but again were very good. The establishment was spotless and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Will 100% be eating here again! read more

We had two versions of Mofongo with pork prepared two different ways. Both were excellent and very filling! We tried the piña colada wings which were also very good. Kevin is an amazing host and walked us through being "virgins " to Puerto Rican food. Extremely welcoming spot . Go! You won't be disappointed! read more

Stopped on a whim. My son's bday and when driving by he said THERE! So glad he did. We just had Caribbean food in Syracuse that was disappointing and we were blown away! I cannot say enough about the food... the mofongo was light and delicious, empanadas (chicken & pizza) were crispy and flavorful, garlic butter chicken was mouth watering, and the pina colada (boneless) & gringo (bone-in) wings were fantastic. The staff were so nice offering my son a dessert for his birthday and genuinely cared whether we enjoyed our food and were extremely welcoming. The restaurant was clean and well kept with nice decor. Listen, we don't have Puerto Rican restaurants out in Los Angeles, and if there are any, I haven't found them yet. My family and I were on a road trip and decided to stop in the area for a quick bite to eat. We had originally planned eating elsewhere when I pointed out the signage for La Bamba. We dropped everything and decided to eat here instead and it was one of the best decisions we made. I had the bistec encebollado with yellow rice, and mangú. Let's break it down: Bistec encebollado: tender, juicy, garlicky, citrusy--a beautiful piece of meat. It was a bit on the salty side for me (I've been working on cutting down my sodium intake. I'm very sensitive.) but if you're not monitoring your sodium intake, LET'S GO! It reminds me of Filipino bistek. Yellow rice: Hear me out, a "dry" risotto. Short grain at its best. It wasn't mushy, it had a bit of grain, but it was a great added touch, if intentional. I am not certain if there were peas or lentils, some sort of legume was in it, as well as green olives. It had just enough flavor to enhance the bistec. Mangú: THE STAR OF THE SHOW! I haven't had this before. I found out it's a Dominican dish but theirs has a Puerto Rican twist. It was by far my favorite. I couldn't tell I was eating plantains. The consistency was beautiful. You got chunks of plantains, a bit of mash that added a creaminess to it. The pickled onions was the perfect topping. Highly recommend this side. Vibe: It's a family owned business and every single person in the restaurant was lovely. They're a beautiful family--they're polite, easy going, and very welcoming. read more

La Bamba is a hidden gem! Great Food, great family owners and Amazing Desserts. There is nothing you won't like here. The mofongo, the pernil, the empanadas all amazing. Great wall inside to take pictures in front of it. Whether you're in Cortland for the college definitely a must stop every time!
