What a wonderful local place with a kind staff and great prices. As I walked in it felt like I walked through a time warp Where everything was like it was in 1980s and wonderfully so . I really enjoyed this fish fry everything was fresh the locals love it and I enjoyed my time . If you are in the area enjoy This wonderful place .

Doug's is right near our house so we have been going here for years. The inside is super fun, lots of nautical themed decor and little fishermen everywhere. I'm so sad to report that they changed the food and the quality has dropped. The fish sandwich was pretty good but the coleslaw was all liquid and didn't taste right. And they changed the fries! They used to offer hand cut French fries but these were obviously a frozen product, hard and stale. The scallops were very yummy. The staff are always kind and helpful. I'm just disappointed that we didn't get the meal we were expecting, I thought this would be an easy 5 star review!

Yes it that big of a sandwich.

All I can say is WOW.... Our first time. We ordered the fish sandwich's and the fish is very well portioned and cook to perfection. Crispy and lightly coated with exceptional taste !!! I don't know which sauce is better the red or white ... so I put the white on the sandwich and used the red to dip the over hang ... works ... lol We will be back

Love this place! They have the best lobster roll I've ever had. A little on the pricy side but totally worth it! It didn't come with a side so I'd recommend ordering something extra if you have a big appetite.

    Seafood gumbo

I'd never been to a restaurant in Cortland before visiting here - and the reviews looked really good so I had to come give it a try. I came at around 3 PM and had already eaten lunch, so I only ordered the seafood gumbo. I had friends who were hungry and ordered actual food, however. The seafood gumbo was honestly quite disappointing - there was barely any fish in it and it tasted like I was having a runny tomato sauce. However, the fish sandwich was quite good - I'd actually recommend getting the extra bread option as they do not skimp on the fish. The restaurant is also surprisingly expensive, especially for its location. You can expect to pay upwards of $15 for a meal very easily. My gumbo set me back $4 and it isn't exactly large.

Lunch special: Fish Sandwich, Onion Rings & Gumbo

I had been to the Doug's Fish Fry in Skaneateles so when I was fairly close to Cortland I figured I would try the Doug's Fish Fry there for lunch. Located in a stand alone building in front of a strip mall, Doug's is more of an everyday restaurant. The decor is casual and a bit funky, with a good amount of light wood. The menu of course leans heavily on fish, seafood and fried foods, it includes lunch specials. I ordered the fish sandwich lunch special with onion rings and gumbo which also includes a drink. All of the food was prepared fresh for the order and came up in a reasonable time. In the dining room there is the self serve drinks area and the condiments. The fish is a generous filet of fresh white fish perfectly battered and fried. Somehow Doug's manages to make a perfect fried fish where the batter stays on the fish as you eat it. The onion rings are also lightly battered and fried, slightly sweet and just a bit oily; near perfect onion rings. The gumbo was very nice mild tomato based soup with fish, small shrimp and okra; a nice compliment to the fried food. Doug's Cortland is very good, well worth a visit if you are in the area and looking for some fish or seafood.

Fish Sandwich Lunch - with Fresh Cut Fries and Onion Rings

I had heard about this place quite a bit and when I finally visited the Syracuse area (09/21), I was ready to try it. The best reviewed location is in Skaneateles, but this one was on the way and convenient. We went in just as it opened, which turned out to be a smart choice. So when you are in a spot that does something well, such as seafood, and you aren't as accustomed to having that good of seafood readily available, making a selection can be overwhelming. However I had already been persuaded to have the fish sandwich. Doug's doesn't play. Look up the food porn here or at their other locations and they do it up consistently. The fish was hot and battered nicely. It held up well and was well seasoned. My onion rings were also done up right. I tried the tartar sauce, which I am not usually a fan of, and it was really good. This local chain (if a couple of locations makes it one) is really popular in the area, and with good reason. Back in Texas, I reminisce about this place and all the other great food I had on my visit to the Syracuse area. If I were to go back to upstate NY, I absolutely would repeat a visit to Doug's.

    here's my receipt.

Very disappointed. The fish was not fresh. The fillet was 1/4" thick. Total rip off.

From the building and decor, to the drinks and decor, NOLA is everywhere on the menu and in the restaurant. We started with a State Street Hurricane (dark and light rum, passionfruit, and lime) and a Spicy Margarita, which were both great. We had a half dozen of both of their oyster selections (Malpeque from PEI and Spindrift from MA), which they serve with freshly shaved horseradish (a nice touch). Then we shared a Caesar salad, their fish fry, and their special of the night - pan-seared arctic char (with a creamy tomato sauce with capers, cheesy grits, and garlicy spinach). Everything was great. As usual, our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, and we couldn't eat everything we ordered. But the food was so good we ate most of our leftovers the next day for breakfast. The service was very good, and the vibes are great - it's comfortable, casual, and fun. We had a fun meal and some great food. I'd happily return.

Cute crab shack ambience, it's a hot spot so order or arrive before the dinner crowd. My first visit was a Saturday around 6 and it was crowded and not a seat to be had! All the seafood platters being served looked amazing, so I knew I was in the right spot! I was greeted as I approached the counter and was assisted with my take out and recommended popular party sack combinations. I ordered #3 which includes a lobster tail, one cluster or 1/2 lb snow crab, 1/2 lb shrimp (I recommend requesting Head Off!) a piece of corn, and 2-3 potatoes. I chose Cajun seasoning and, very hot spice. Warning you best be a very spicy hot lover, it was challenging but loved it!
