I feel like the food is better from their truck, and the environment isn't anything special. Decent food, but there are a lot of options in the area and I don't think anything here makes one want to stand up and recommend it as a place to go to, especially when it could be out of your way. They had tres leches cake during a festival I attended and I grabbed a slice to go. Life changing. I don't say that lightly. I'm a dessert connoisseur and eat my fair amount of sweets (more than I should probably) but this was one of the tops. The cream on top was so silky, and the flavor was unreal. I got the coconut cake, but they had other flavors and now I want to try them. I hope that they have this at more festivals and food truck events because this is my new favorite thing. Parking can be a challenge because the parking area isn't very big. Inside, the seating is limited. The staff was nice and friendly. The food was tasty. I had a carne asada burrito with fries instead of rice ("Cali style" as they called it). I did order it with no lettuce and still the food had lettuce in it. Mamacitas is a hidden gem! Situated in what looks like a small converted house, some yummy eats are found inside. Parking is limited, though I noticed some Customers using a neighboring business's parking lot. Not sure how they feel about that. Once inside, I was immediately greeted. The woman at the counter was quick to point out the standard menu as well as the day's specials. From the standard menu, both the beef as well as chicken empanadas were tasty and were served piping hot. Both were stuffed to the brim; no skimping here! Unlike empanadas I've had elsewhere, the shells were quite crunchy. Both appeared to be deep fried (vs baked). The Maduros were firm and sweet, making for a delicious appetizer, side or dessert. From the "specials" menu, the Birria Tacos were just as good. Once again, the tacos had plenty of filling, so you won't walk away hungry. Just two years after rolling down Central New York streets in her Mamacitas food truck, Sara Rius made the leap to opening a new standalone restaurant in North Syracuse and finding herself busier than ever creating what she calls authentic Puerto Rican food "with a gringa twist." Rius learned how to cook Puerto Rican food from her mother-in-law. Rius' love for making Puerto Rican food continued to grow and it became her niche, she said. Predominantly she makes traditional Puerto Rican food, but she does like to put her own spin on dishes. I've been scoping this place out for months. I love ethnic foods, so Mamacitas was on my list as soon as I heard, but the hours kept me from going. I finally got the chance to try it this week and was not disappointed. Small place, couple tables inside, small parking lot, nothing fancy. But the employees were extremely friendly and personable, and of course the food was as delicious as I expected it to be. I ordered a combo plate with yellow rice and pernil pork and a side of sweet fried plantains. Everything was ready quick, hot and fresh and delicious. Plantains were amazing, rice was cooked perfectly and had a great garlicky flavor and the pork was tender, fall apart, moist perfection. $17 for everything and it was a TON of food that fed me more than once. This is one of my favorite local spots. The service is always friendly and welcoming. They will definitely remember you if you are a regular. It is a small quaint spot but there are some tables and nice decor if you plan to stay and eat. In warmer months there is also a couple tables outside. The food is always amazing. I finally got to Mamacitas today after promising myself I would one day stop for lunch. Today was the perfect day, after all it is Birria taco Thursday. I don't often come out this way, but I had just left my dentist office and he pointed out this special day for Mamacitas. This is a small establishment meant for take out, though there is a table. The counter woman was welcoming and knew many of the customers waiting for food, or who had just come in. Great vibe! It was difficult to choose what to order. I was drawn to the mofungo, but instead went with the Birria tacos with a side of coconut rice...sublime. The tacos came with a generous container of sauce and the flavors are magical. Friendly staff, tasty food, pleasant (but small!) dining room. Mamacita's is open limited hours, because they're out in their food truck in the evenings, so if, like me, you have had a hard time getting there when they're open, look up the food truck. (And be sure to check their hours on-line before you go, as they seem to change now and again!) The staff was super-helpful, and super high-energy, and full of suggestions for what to order. Afterwards, they escorted me through the kitchen to the restroom, and even the kitchen staff was enthusiastic and friendly! The Cubano was super-tasty. As a sometime Florida-boy, I am used to Cuban sandwiches having a bit more ham taste than roasted pork taste (there are usually at least two kinds of meat in there), but this was the opposite, and it really worked. There was plenty of mustard (so much that I wound up wearing some of it while eating in the car, but it didn't overwhelm the flavor), pickles, and all the stuff I'd expect. I got an empanada for later, and the staff suggested I use an air fryer to heat it up at home so it didn't get soggy. When I finally got to it seven hours later, it was still pretty good (which is impressive). It had a nice thick crust with good flavor (it tasted of bread rather than just oil), and was totally stuffed with beef. I'll definitely be back! read more

As I was on my way to the airport, I looked up PR restaurants, and found this little gem of a place. Literally 15 minutes from the airport--so, yes go. Friendly and family oriented atmosphere. I can see future growth for sure. The food was absolutely delicious. I would have ordered everything on the menu, but I ordered rice and gandules, beans, and pernil w/a side of tostones and garlic. This is the third meal we've gotten from Mamacitas and I have lots to say. I found the food (empanadas and Mofongo) to be flavorful and filling. These are two dishes that I would definitely order again! However, my dinner companion didn't like them as much as I did. I interpret that as "more for me"! I went to Mamacitas to get the Mofongo with chicken, however, they were out of that so I got Mofongo Carne Frita (pork) instead. Both of the times I've gone in the evening, they've been out of a couple of dishes. My suggestion is to have a backup dish in mind. (BTW the fact that they run out of dishes is good, because it shows they're popular!) Mamacitas has limited parking. In the evening, I park at the business next door. If it's dark - and especially if it is dark and rainy - it is hard to see the "curbs", so be careful. All in all, I really like Mamacitas! I look forward to my next meal. Maybe lunch? read more

I always hate nagging on location, but people DO choose where to put their restaurants, and this location is a packed mini strip mall with very limited parking. Also, on the restaurant itself the windows are very large and vehicles park directly in front of them. So any time someone comes or goes, you're blinded momentarily. They should definitely close the tattered blinds that exist at least if they do not want to put up any nice window coverings. Lastly on location, the restaurant itself is very small. And with as busy as it got, it was hard to even have a conversation with the people at my table. As far as the food, it was ok. Nothing really to write home about. I got the spicy beef tacos. They had good flavor but were extremely greasy. Though I'd imagine that was due to the fact that the owner had to rush cook them herself. Which brings me to the next item.... The service was absolutely the worst I have ever received. It is factually the reason I will never go back to this restaurant. To be clear, not all the service staff was as terrible as ours. I'm sure this one individual is not a great representative for the entire restaurant. However, we admittedly took some time To place our order as a couple of us were having a hard time deciding what to eat. So I was understanding when we were waiting for our food even a half an hour after we had finished our appetizer. Unfortunately during this time frame, we also ordered a second round of drinks. I watched a table next to us order, receive their food, eat their food, and receive their bill by the time I finally had to personally go to the bar to get our second round of beverages. As far as our meal, an hour after we ordered we were informed by the distraught owner that somehow our order was never put in. She stated she would be comping our visit and that she herself would be cooking our meals and would have them out as quickly as possible. She delivered. In a situation that was not directly her fault she did what she could to make it better. At that point I was "ok" about the situation. Unfortunately the waitress that failed us the entire evening came to our table after we had finished with our meal with a bill. Prior to looking at the bill I simply stated "oh the owner said it was on the house". With a snotty little attitude as if we were the problem, this young woman had the nerve to say no, just your meals. So not only did this person never come back to our table other than to hand us a bill, but she never apologized for her terrible service, and then she wants to give ME Attitude? The owner came back with the bill and handed us our cards and apologized for the additional confusion and did in fact not charge us. However, the damage was done. This employee should be fired. Not only are they not a good server, but they are extremely rude and entitled. The restaurant gets 2 stars as I saw no effort from the owner to make this person apologize. As well as the mediocre food, and unfortunate location. Not to mention the window situation with the headlights. That's honestly a very easy thing to fix. But when you overlook the extremely poor quality even in just one staff member, I guess expecting them to notice the window issue is asking a lot. read more

Tldr - these tacos changed my life. I stopped in for the first time today with someone I know from the fire department. He put this place on a pretty big pedestal and it did not disappoint. Super authentic, quick, personable, great staff, you can tell it's all a big family back there, blood or not. We sat down outside to eat, I couldn't find a complaint about the food if I tried! The owner came by to check on us and actually gave away some free stuff too! She asked about our meal, we all raved. Had a great conversation about her business, talked about our dogs and even met her husband. I didn't really feel like I stopped somewhere for lunch with someone I knew, I felt like we stopped by their moms house and they welcomed me in with open arms and the food had the exact same touch to it. They managed to top themselves! The Cubano sandwich with yucca fries is amazing. I lived in FL for 12 years and this sandwich outdoes anything I had there. It's flavourful with a nice crunch from both the pressing of the bread and the pickles. A perfect amount of mustard to complement the meat. The yucca fries were tossed in a garlic Parmesan topping that added incredible richness and flavour that complimented the sandwich. The tostones are crisp and well seasoned. Garlicky and salty. Just perfect. The service was great. The young man working the register is very polite. He apologized for my having to wait, but the wait was short for a quality product. The food and customer service is amazing. Best for pickup or carry out because the dining area only has a few tables. I would highly recommend visiting on a Thursday when they have their Barilla tacos and burritos. We've never had barilla so there is nothing to compare it to.
