The time before that exceeded two hours for my wife, who recently received a stage-four bone cancer diagnosis. (Metastatic breast cancer) Needless to say, a two-hour plus wait is simply too long and too disrespectful for all the old folks, who is the bulk of their clients, who need their service. I've tried to contact management by phone, but I'm still waiting on the return call. Since that last visit, we've found a new lab in SLO that accepts appointments. Morro Bay's lab is 15 miles closer, but we still saved about an hour on our first visit. For us, the saved time an increased comfort of our car padded seats was worth the gas for the extra 30 miles for the round trip, but we usually have some business in SLO, so in the final analysis, it just makes good sense for us. On the surface, Dignity Health's decision to cut staff to the bone makes little business sense. Their overworked staff has been great and deserved better than to be verbally chewed on by angry customers, which I witnessed during my last two visits. They no longer have a receptionist to do the paperwork; it is left to the phlebotomists to do. Just hiring a receptionist and letting the blood drawers do their work might solve the wait-time issues instead of having multiple customers announcing to the world they're going somewhere else as they walk out. Edited: I received a call from a Dignity Health manager after I posted this review. She was very nice and polite and said changes are expected that will reduce wait time.

My insurance company proved to me that they processed their bill a month after the services were rendered. I pay my share quickly, but two years later, I do not know what I paid or didn't pay. I don't make enough to itemize, so I don't keep the bills after I paid. Really shabby, in my opinion.

The receptionist is knowledgeable and efficient. I kind of hate that each time I have to show my card, though. The phlebotomist is amazing, I don't think I have ever gotten a bruise from a blood draw. They are open early in the morning, but every time I go they are backed up. Even when there are only a few people there is a long wait. I think this is because they only have 2 people working there. There really should be another helper during the morning shift. For example, I had to leave a urine specimen and it sat in the bathroom (alongside several other donations) while many people came and went in the bathroom. I felt like perhaps my specimen could have been tampered with. Not that it was, but the possibility to tamper was definitely present. I have been to other labs where they have you put it through a secret little door and some unseen person on the other side retrieves it. Also, if there was another person helping out, they could get the paperwork in order faster or label the blood vials so they are ready-to-go when the blood is drawn. I will just have to make sure I have plenty of time to wait on my way to work. The last time I was there I had to park far away from my office because I arrived late. I do like that they now have some granola bars and OJ for you after you donate.
