This store has a great selection of games, puzzles and the like, but the real heart of the store is the community that has come into existence around it. The staff are passionate game players who know tons of games and will tell you which ones they like and which ones they don't. In the back of the store is the true glory of brick and morter stores, hundreds of opened games that customers can look through and play. Game nights provide a great opportunity to learn a new game or play a favorite that it is difficult to get your friends to play. Just find the game you want to play and put it on the table in front of you. Pretty soon the great people who come by the store on games nights will walk up and ask what it is. I now buy all of my games at this store. I value the experience of learning new games and trying them multiple times before I make the decision to bring them home. I have played games that I decided I would never buy or play again, and I have become an evangelist for games I have played there that I have worked to spread to everyone I know. Special events on Saturdays introduce players to games like Netrunner and Arkham Horror, or Star Wars: X-Wing miniature. Don't be fooled by the size of the shop - it's packed full of games and helpful staff. Most every buy I've made here is following discussions with staff. They're very enthusiastic and almost uniformly good at describing what they like and why - helpful in identifying whether I'd like something. Given that they'll track down a game they don't stock, I've given up shopping at internet stores. Give Labyrinth a try, and if you don't have a lot of money, check out their events and tournaments, which are often a lot of fun. read more

Having a good Friendly Local Game Store (FLGS) is critical, and I'm glad I found Labyrinth. The staff is knowledgeable and cheerful. They know their stock well, and are always quick to suggest games you might not have thought of. They're quick to respond to e-mails and to Facebook posts. I'd like to see more wargames there, but I understand that's a real niche market, so I'm not going to knock any points off for that. In sum, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better FLGS in D.C. read more

I am happy that this store exists on Capitol Hill. I am not entirely certain I totally understand the "gamer" culture, because even in the 1980s, I just couldn't get in to "Dungeons and Dragons" (although I admittedly appreciate those folks who loved it). And I am not entirely sure how this store makes its revenues, but good for them if they can. I walked in and examined the cool games they had on display, then I heard the busy din in the backroom, and sort of hoped for some tasty coffee (which I think they ought to consider adding as part of their ambiance) but instead saw a bunch of gamers at tables playing games (duh, yeah I am a dunce) but then one guy in his 40s, with a ponytail, raised his arms, like wings ready to strike, hands splayed like claws, and he screeched "CAW CAW" and started hissing, mimicking a dragon, and I'm like - - I can't deal with this, me outta here. Now mind you, I am a strong supporter of people doing these things, but dude, its just not my style. But I do love that this store exists. I'm like - I wish i could get into this, but i just friggin can't. (And I confess, if I download a computer game, I get so addicted I can't stop, so maybe former addicts are the biggest scorns, okay, okay). This a fantastic store for children's toys! Of course this store sells lots of games for adults, but I have recently become aware of the range of high quality items for kids, and I keep going back to Labyrinth! You can find smart and well-designed games, puzzles and interesting toys for children of all ages. Classic games, selected newer favorites like Melissa and Doug games, and then interesting new items from Eeboo and other companies that you may not see in other stores. So many of the items in this store have won awards from parents' organizations etc.. Tons of stuff under $20, and great assistance from the salespeople. In addition to having a fantastic selection of logically-organized puzzles and games, the staff was extremely friendly and knowledgable. They were not only able to give me detailed information about specific games that they thought I would enjoy based on a few I was interested in, but also had great recommendations for a few parties of differing themes that I'm throwing soon. Something for everybody! Seriously baby to gamer. Puzzles to game board. Known for role playing gamers I ventured in because I was babysitting. WOW! I left with over $100 in games. Many serious gamers have given their thumbs up. I will add a few words as a mother of three children, 8 and younger. Games have personalities, just like children. And you have to match the right game to the right child. What I appreciate about Labyrinth is that they have open games for our family to try, AND they have great staff who will explain the rules patiently to my children AND sit to play a game with them (so I don't have to sit there trying to learn the rules myself while the kids wait impatiently). Of course I know the games here are priced more than Amazon or what I might be able to find on Ebay, but for the service and the knowledge, they deserve every penny extra they are asking for. In the age of online ordering it can be tempting to go with some big box warehouse. If you do that, then you are truly missing out on what Labyrinth and the staff of Labyrinth have to offer. They have a great selection of puzzles and an even better one of games. The recommendations are way more than, X game is like Y game, it's more like, "This game has ABC dynamics and if you like X game here is how they are similar and different." Even better than that, the staff is as attentive if you are a hard core player or if this is your first time picking up a non-HasBro game. Terrific store. I have visited board game stores all over the Washington area and, frankly, in many other locales as well and this is clearly among the best-- both for loyal hobbyists and novices. The store is always well stocked with attractive displays and tremendous variety. The Staff are all extremely knowledgeable and friendly and helpful. The owner clearly cares about her customers and the hobby she is supporting. We travel into DC from Arlington frequently just to visit the store. This is a great little store selling a wide range of puzzles and games (Euro games to standard American board games like Scrabble and Monopoly). The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the games. The prices are about the same as amazon and by shopping here you get to support a local business; plus you get much better recommendations. They manage to fit a lot into a small space and it's well organized so you can find what you're looking for easily. If they don't have something they'll order it. The owner is working hard to build a community with regular game sessions and special events. There's even space in the back that you can rent for parties or gaming sessions if you don't have a place to play.
