    Toys and books bought today

Just went there today and it's an awesome children's toys and book store. Very large selections for different ages, and the prices are way more reasonable than a lot of the shops that I have been before.

    No dueling, please!! Lol

Didn't buy anything but what a cool toy store! It's located in the Clarendon area of Arlington, on North Fillmore Street. You can tell everything was specially chosen/curated. Lots of toys not found in the "toy departments" of major chain stores. The store name means "Kids'/Children's House," in German, of course. I appreciate the German brands they sell there, it even smelled like Germany. I know, weird thing to say, but it's true. They sell clothes, legos, robots, figures, dolls, a section for puppets, books, trains, every toy imaginable. At the front, where the you pay, they have this nice gift wrapping station (not DIY.) I didn't catch or ask whether this service was free or not, because we didn't purchase anything. They even sell balloons. Definitely a one-stop shop to make make any child happy! Or maybe even yourself!!

They have such a great selection of toys, crafts, legos, etc. And they gift wrap way better than I could for free!

My parents used to take me to this store when I was a kid, back when it was located in Lee Heights.

Great selection of toys I can't usually find at other stores. I'll go back for sure. Good service.

They seriously would not let us leave without free gift wrap and ribbon, and were very charming about it.

They also offer a great selection of unique gifts and other special items that you can't find at the countless big box stores that have taken over almost everywhere else here now. It's like visiting...Etsy...in person. If such a store existed of course. Obviously only a very very small, and very highly curated BIT of Etsy, but still...it's etsy-esque. In a good way. Well worth a visit. Especially for those "extra hard to shop for" and "already have everything" types. They're also great for the many miscellaneous gift needs that pop up throughout the year for coworkers and teachers and other people you might not know very well and whose gift options fall uncomfortably in between even the classiest target dollar bin options your best friends might love, and the fancier more expensive fare reserved for one's own children, close relatives, spouses... The "I don't really know what, but ideally something special and memorable and cool" gifts for all sorts of things like secret Santas, teacher appreciation, miscellaneous baby/bridal showers, office party exchanges, attempts to gain favor or acceptance from cringey or critical or perfectly lovely mother in laws...etc. This place is perfect for all of those and more. I've found awesome Christmas presents for my mother here two years in a row now, and many fun things for myself as well. Best boutique baby clothes section I've seen in the Arlington area, actually. Oh! And Scout bags galore!

It's a tiny store but every nook and cranny is filled with children's clothes, books, toys and shoes. Everything is very stylish and well curated (and also a bit expensive too! If you are looking for deals, they will sometimes open up the consignment shop next door and I've seen some awfully cute dresses that would look great on a holiday card! I've had 3 negative experiences at 529 Kids Consign over 4 months. 1- I bought kids' items on Instagram. Since the shop is a 30-45 minute drive for me, I called first to ensure my items were ready for pickup. The salesperson said, "I have them right here!" However, when I arrived, she was frantically searching for them. I asked for a refund, but was told to come back the next day when the owner, Megan, was in the store. When I explained this wasn't a possibility because I work full-time, she finally relented and gave me store credit but wouldn't issue a refund. 2- Before buying a kid's item on Instagram, I asked if there was any pilling, holes, or stains. I was told the item was in like-new condition. When I picked it up, it had lots of piling and a second item I bought had stains. (I was able to exchange the items, but the store needs to be more transparent about the condition of items.) 3- I was the first person to claim and pay for an item on Instagram. When I went to collect it, I was given the wrong dress. The store sold the dress I claimed to another customer who was second to claim. The salesperson called the owner Megan and her response was, "Uggh. I can't DEAL with this RIGHT NOW. I need to be a mom." I was shocked at her response. I have four children and my time is valuable too! A better response from the owner might have been, "I'm so sorry for the mixup. I'm not in a position to address this right now. May I call you back?" I offered the salesperson my phone number and asked if the owner could call me at a more convenient time. When Megan did call me she said, "There's nothing we can do and I can't help it that YOU read the post wrong." When I offered a suggestion on how to improve labeling in the Instagram posts, she said, "There's not a problem with our process." Further, when I mentioned how two of my items were previously lost Megan said, "I can't control what comes out of everyone's mouths. The items weren't lost, they were probably in the store but the girl couldn't find them and she probably doesn't even work here anymore." Megan also said she two girls who work in the store have dyslexia. It seemed strange to me that Megan didn't keep employees' medical issues private. Being open to feedback and providing training for employees are hallmarks of a good business. Sadly, 529 Kids Consign doesn't provide even the most basic level of customer service. So I'm choosing to spend my money elsewhere.

While waiting patiently for way too long for my child to try on one dress, we watched a lady walk in as if entitled to consign things without an appointment and the obsequious, young employees kowtowed to that privileged lady. Meanwhile, my daughter had to go to the bathroom to try on the dress after waiting for at least 15 minutes while other women were hogging the dressing rooms. We decided that this place is not worth our time or money.
