I am a regular at La Caj. All the bartenders and waiters are great but I want to point out Neisy the manager who mainly deals with the restaurants entertainment. She is exceptional at this all events that I have attended have been flawless. I have enjoyed numerous events i.e. Galentine's event and this past weekend the jersey party brunch in which a former Commander was in attendance. I love sitting out on the patio for music and hookah. Again Neisy is the reason these events are happening. I highly recommend La Caj great staff and food. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a long time and I'm so glad I did. We were immediately greeted and seated right away. Now, I wasn't really happy about our seat but I couldn't see behind the wall to know if there was another table to request to move to. We were sat in the front corner I guess directly under a vent and it was already chilly outside. I didn't let it bother me because I really wanted to try ERRTHANG on the menu. Now, this is where I was about to get up and leave. We sat for a good while and NO ONE came to greet, take a drink order, or even ask have we been helped. I want to say it's because we were somewhat out of sight. Because it was freezing I got up and asked for another table, which was on the other side of the wall with all the other customers and much warmer even with the patio bar doors open. No, I don't remember my waiters name, but he came over immediately and apologized for us being stranded in the back. We went on to order our drinks which came fairly quickly and we ordered our food. I was kind of disappointed because he said they no longer served fried crab legs and should be taken off the menu, but that's OK. I was ready to order something else. I had Chef Mo's Shrimp & Grits and when I say it's the best shrimp and grits I've ever had in my life. It was amazing. The grits were three cheese grits with crawfish, étouffée, and large perfectly shrimp with some BOMB jalapeño beef sausage, which I would have removed, but I said let's do it. Best decision I've ever made. I cannot stop thinking about the grits. My friend ordered the Cajun fried fish and grits with a side of eggs (no pic). We both raved the entire time about how creamy and delicious the grits were. I didn't need to add anything, no butter, no salt, no sugar. They were absolutely amazing and I'm not even a huge grits fan. Now, the fish, the menu stated half a pound, which came out to be one small piece of whiting. I guess I was expecting a bigger piece or maybe two pieces because it was so tiny but that baby filet was seasoned to the gods, I mean perfect. The breading was so flavorful but not overpowering or salty. The eggs tasted like the eggs I had in the marines out of a bag, but he mix them with the grits and was fine. Wanted to love it... but the service ruined the experience. I visited La'Caj Seafood to celebrate a friend's birthday during happy hour. Since I live in the Union Market area of DC, driving all the way to Camp Springs isn't exactly around the corner, so I was excited to finally check this place out. The first issue came before we even ordered. Happy hour runs from 4-6 PM, but nowhere on the website (or when you first arrive) does it mention that the specials are inside or at the bar only. We grabbed a table on the beautiful patio and waited for a server, only for her to tell us happy hour wasn't available outside. That would've been helpful information upfront. ‍ We made our way to the bar at 5:50 PM to order before happy hour ended. The bartender finished making a drink around 5:54 PM but never acknowledged us. Instead, she shuffled around behind the bar while we stood there waiting. Another employee finally came over at 5:59 PM and asked if we needed anything. We said yes--we were trying to place our happy hour order. As soon as the clock hit 6:00 PM, he told us the system wouldn't allow it because happy hour was over. We explained that we'd been standing there for several minutes waiting to be helped because the bartender ignored us. A manager came over and said she'd "make an exception," but respectfully...there wasn't an exception to make. We were there before 6:00. The delay was entirely on the staff. As for the food...it was pretty underwhelming. Mango Margarita - Super sweet and barely tasted like it had any alcohol. Fried Shrimp - Decent flavor, but nothing memorable. Cajun Mozzarella Nuggets - The biggest disappointment. These tasted like frozen mozzarella sticks straight out of a wholesale freezer with little to no Cajun flavor. Thankfully, the margarita was only $5 and both food items were $6 during happy hour. Had I paid full price, I would've been extremely disappointed. The restaurant itself is spacious, although the DJ booth takes up a good amount of room inside. The patio is honestly the highlight--it's beautiful, has plenty of seating, and they also offer hookah if that's your vibe. I just wish the happy hour specials extended outside because it's where most people would probably want to sit. I genuinely enjoy supporting Black-owned businesses and always hope to have a great experience. Unfortunately, between the lack of communication, being ignored at the bar, and food that didn't live up to the hype, this visit missed the mark. Tbh, La Caj Seafood Issa a NO for me. First, I don't like the name. Second, they're still under renovations, so I'll give them a little grace there. The space has more of a neighborhood restaurant with a small bar vibe, and they were playing a solid R&B playlist that kept the atmosphere relaxed. The highlight of my visit was server, Denise. She was friendly, patient, and really helped me narrow down my food selections. If the restaurant sees this, please thank her for me and give her a BIG, FAT RAISE!!! Now...the food. It was just...mid. Nothing tasted bad, but nothing stood out either. It wasn't memorable enough to have me thinking about coming back. Considering they're a Cajun-Latin fusion restaurant, I expected bolder flavors and more of a wow factor. As for the location, it's in an area that's clearly being revitalized and gentrified, but it's still not one of my favorite parts of town. Happy to learn of this spot, went on a Friday, can get a wee bit loud with the DJ and outdoor patio, security was present if needed, and was promptly encouraging folk to leave at the time of closing. I loved the idea of the menu; the fusion of Cajun and Latin, which in my opinion can't be beat. I got a Mexican mule, (fab!) crab stuffed salmon al limon, garlic mashed potatoes, and the hot honey kale. We attempted to order the cornbread but they were out. Due to the busyness of the restaurant and the size of our party, it took a minute for our food and drinks to come out. One of my dining companions didn't get one of her sides. Her drink came out as we were getting the check. The salmon was wonderful and cooked to perfection. The paired sauce wasn't too overwhelming; although, I don't recall tasting much crab. The mashed potatoes were great as was the kale. I didn't need the hot honey and requested it on the side. I think the portions were of nice size, the sides are shareable. My wife and I went to La' Caj Seafood on a Sunday for brunch. We did not have reservations but at the same time the restaurant didn't have a lot of people there which was good. We were told that there was only seating at the bar, outside, or at the high tops. We chose to sit at the high tops. There are very few actual tables there in terms of booth like tables to sit at. The restaurant definitely doesn't get the most out of its space with how the current layout is. They can definitely get more seating if they changed the layout to maximize the space. To start my wife and I each ordered a mimosa. Our waiter recommended that we get a pitcher instead for $30 so we decided to do that. The pitcher was an excellent choice! Most of the time when you get a pitcher, it's pretty much just straight ice. This was the complete opposite as there was no ice whatsoever in the pitcher. My wife and I easily got about 12-15 glasses of mimosas out of that pitcher. So it's safe to say that was a great call! We also started off with the steak and deviled eggs. These were better than I even anticipated. As someone who loves both steak and deviled eggs individually, this was an amazing combination. The steak pieces on top of the deviled eggs made this a delicious appetizer that I could've easily ordered more of. For our entrees, my wife and I both ordered the Jumbo Smothered Chicken and Biscuits. Now this was a meal! This is something you have to bring your appetite for. They give you 2 huge pieces of chicken, with eggs, and biscuits. It is very filling! My only complaint with this meal as good as it was, is that it desperately needed more sauce. The chicken is chicken breast so it's naturally already dry. This goes with the biscuits as well which are naturally going to be dry. More sauce was definitely needed to balance out this dish. Outside of that, the meal was still really good despite that. The dish has the potential to easily be a 10 out of 10 with more sauce on it. In terms of service our waiter was ok. There were a couple of times where we were waiting on her and couldn't find her. There wasn't a lot of people in there so we definitely felt like we should've seen her way more than we did. Despite there not being a lot of people there, it was a good vibe for Sunday Football. They had the football game on and they had a dj to play music during commercials. The only problem is that this is not the place you want to go to if you want to look at multiple different games as they only had one game on all of the tv's. I stopped by on a random Wednesday night with a friend for dinner, and we decided to keep it light with appetizers and dessert since we didn't really know what to expect it was our first time visiting. The nachos were a standout packed with flavor and topped with chicken and shrimp. The cheese was especially memorable, super creamy and rich. We also tried the margarita flight, which was surprisingly affordable and served in the cutest little Patron style glasses. The lollipop lamb chops were another highlight and cooked to perfection. To top it all off, we ended with the deep fried biscuit dessert, which alone would have me coming back again. Overall, the service was good and their price was very reasonable. So here are my thoughts. I happened upon this black owned restaurant in a restaurant row type of setting. Upon entry, I was immediately greeted! I sat at the bar, and the bartender came over right away. All good things! While dining, who I assume to be the manager, was walking around checking in with the patrons! Extra points for that! On this particular day, they had a saxophonist and singer, which added to the vibes. This may have been because it was Valentines Day. But from what I was told, they have events there often. Now on to the food. I ordered catfish nuggets, which were recommended by the bartender. They were tasty enough. I think I would have preferred a different presentation, as they are just served in a fry basket, and looked unassuming. (I didn't bother to photograph it). But that's not a big deal. For my entree, I ordered seafood enchiladas. While they were also good enough, I'm not sure they are worth the price. The seafood included tiny crawfish and over processed crab meat. As a foodie, I don't mind paying for tasty food of higher quality, but this dish was just ok for me. The cocktail in the large size was worth the price for me at $20. The food does take a fair bit of time to come out, but nothing ridiculously excessive. I wouldn't be opposed to coming back to try more of their dishes! read more

We had a wonderful experience at La'Caj Seafood. The ambiance immediately stood out. The space felt warm, inviting, and comfortable. It's great for a quick date night, a girls' meet-up, or even catching the game. The service was just as enjoyable. The team was attentive without hovering and made us feel genuinely welcomed. Everything came out at a great pace, and we never felt rushed. As for the food, everything we tried was full of flavor and clearly made with care. Got there after 3 pm so it was not very crowded. Our server Kenneth was very helpful and attentive with the menus and specials! I've given LaCaj Seafood several chances because I have friends and family who really enjoy coming here for the atmosphere and overall vibe. And to be fair, it is a cool social spot and a nice place to meet up with friends. There's plenty of parking, an open patio when the weather is nice, and I believe they host hookah events once or twice a week, which adds to the social scene. That said, my experiences with the food have been consistently underwhelming. Each time I've gone, the food has been mediocre at best, or items listed on the menu were unavailable. On more than one occasion, I've ordered something and waited for a while only to be told later that the item wasn't available. That's been frustrating and has really taken away from the overall experience. We'll sometimes stop in just for drinks, and while they're okay, they're not the best I've had. There's definitely room for improvement there as well. The service, however, has always been very friendly. We often get the same server, and she is consistently on point, friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. At the bar, the bartenders can sometimes be unsure about what the kitchen has available, which is understandable, but it would really help if that information was communicated upfront while ordering rather than after a wait. Overall, LaCaj Seafood is a solid spot for socializing and meeting up with friends, but the food consistency and menu availability need improvement for me to truly enjoy coming here. read more

I got the signature La'caj Purse (a 26 oz cocktail) and chose the blueberry waffle, subbed vodka for tequila (chef's kiss). Everything on this table food-wise? 10/10. Didn't disappoint! Grabbed a quick bite to eat with one of my friends. Ate at the bar, which had a wonderful bar staff. My friend wanted to watch a specific football game and they met his request with no pushback. Now to me, the menu items are different but nothing out of the ordinary. I ordered the La Casita Carne Asada and Eggs, basically steak and eggs. It was a great entree and definitely a repeatable contender for when I come back. Steak was tender and flavored just right. The eggs were cooked exactly how I asked. My friend and I did share the Fried Chicken Taquitos. They were good but I wouldn't get them again. The service was great for lunch time. My wife and I walked in randomly since it was down the street from her job. Our server was attentive and very helpful with picking out a food item. It is quiet during lunch but I can see the space has good potential to be a happy hour place or spot to meet up with friends or go on a date. Loaded Nachos: 9/10.. I was skeptical about getting shrimp as a protein but it was a perfect blend of flavor. Finally, nachos that got flavor and the protein was flavored. I was very pleased. Since my first experience (brunch) was extremely satisfying I decided to visit for lunch after I saw their unbelievable lunch menu. We had a 1:00pm reservation but I'm not sure the reservation was necessary since it was not crowded. We were greeted and seated quickly. The menu options were great but I couldn't believe the cost...fast food would cost more. We had the southern fried fish sandwich with fries and the build your own cajun flatbread. It's ok. I can see the potential so I'm willing to give it another try but overall I was not too impressed. The cat fish bites appetizer was really good. They were cooked to perfection and not dry at all. I also really enjoyed the hush puppies. The chicken fried rice was overly salty with too much soy sauce and the chicken on top was pretty dry. The restaurant was playing good music, at an appropriate sound level for a lunch crowd, and the service was friendly and attentive. I ordered from the lunch menu which has multiple food options, that come with fries and a soft drink, for $12.99. Based on the waitress' recommendation, I chose the Southern Fried Fish sandwich. Wanted to try brunch but the location is pretty far from where I live. We drove here on Saturday, 2/15 and my visit was underwhelming. Service: Fantastic! The host was soooooooo sweet! Food... let's just say, egg prices might be hurting this establishment. For brunch, I'm a coffee first, maybe a mimosa after but this place didn't have sugar packets (came in a lil dish), waiter was unsure if they had creamer, coffee wasn't made but he said he could make it. Once the coffee came I asked for creamer and he asked if he didn't have any would milk be okay. Worst part of my experience they only had scrambled eggs. The liquid kind. Not a fave for me. LA'CAJ BREAKFAST PLATE 18 Eggs your way, your choice of jalapeno beef sausage or bacon, shredded breakfast potatoes or grits and toast Eggs didn't come my way, I got them their way. Toast, wasn't expecting the garlic toast that my grandma used to buy in a box from the frozen isle but that is what I got, a piece of garlic toast. I couldn't wrap my head around this. My potatoes had stuff in them, I was confused because the menu didn't say that. The lobster avocado deviled eggs were delicious! Overall, menu needs to be updated to accurately reflect items. Eggs your way to Scrambled eggs your way, Toast to Garlic Toast, what if people don't like scrambled or garlic? And last, the potatoes, describe what is in those potatoes. Maybe even just seasoned potatoes so the consumer knows what to expect. Other than that mishap, the menu is expansive, it has a Mexican flare. My honeys Fish and Grits were okay, grits were too watery but the fish was great! Lots of hits but more misses. Would definitely come back to try more items to hopefully change this rating. Walking into the restaurant you're are greeted by the very loud music played by a Dj. Its so loud that its sensory overload. The entire time we were there we had to speak loud so everyone could here us. The restaurant does not offer hard copy menus and I had to scan a QR code to view the menu. This was a difficult task as some of the QR codes were not working. I waiter took our order and got a few things wrong. We received the wrong drink, the wrong side, and never received my desert. The food was good. I ordered the cajun lambs chops which was cooked to perfection. They are tender and flavorful. They actally aren't spicy at all. Which I enjoyed. The cajun collard greens taste like red beans and rice. Its spicy but not overwhelming spicy. The sweet potato fries are bland. I kept feeling like I needed some special sauce to go with the fries. After eating our server did take our items off the table. Which was a plus. I recieved the bill to see the lamb chops are $50 and 20% gratuity large party charge. However, my party consisted of 3 people. I dont believe the service was worth 20%. I doubt I would be returning anytime soon. Its not worth it. read more

I stopped by for Sunday brunch with the ladies & it was an experience. There was a great DJ but the music was too loud. The four of us were practically yelling to hear each other. It definitely wasn't conducive for having a conversation. I ordered the $14 grilled salmon skewers for the table, but there were only 2 so that was disappointing. The salmon skewers were okay. In hindsight, I would have ordered something more filling. For my entree, I had the creamy Cajun breakfast hash with fried salmon. It was cheesy shredded potatoes with spinach, tomatoes, onions, and a cream sauce topped with a huge piece of salmon. I enjoyed the breakfast hash, which was full of flavor, but wasn't a fan of the fried salmon, which lacked flavor. I did appreciate the generous portions though. Next time, I'll try a different protein, probably the crab meat. I've heard great things about this place and at some point, I'll stop by for dinner. read more

Highly disappointed in this establishment. Came here to watch NCAA Final Four and a customer had to log into their personal account to watch the games on one TV. Prior to that, management told us to watch the games on our phones. Unacceptable as they were showing soccer and baseball. Know your target audience. They were more focused on the DJ/club experience. Inside was completely empty when we came in which should have been a sign. The food is mediocre. The salads we got were warm and wilted instead of cold. The manager (owner) was not responsive and not welcoming at all! She gave the impression of being bothered when spoken to. If you want good food, drink, and atmosphere all in one, go to Lisp, Fish Market, Urban Crab, or C-Crab. read more

I visited La Caj Seafood with friends on a Saturday night. When I arrived I was greeted by a woman who asked if I was meeting friends. I wasn't sure if worked there or not but I wasn't paying attention because I was late. I was shocked that they weren't busy. Besides our table there were maybe 10 other patrons. They have booths, a bar area with high tops, bar seating and open kitchen concept with large tvs, and large bright space so lots of potential. In addition for Marylanders who don't want to drive to DC plenty of parking, the area is marketed as Restaurant Row. Because I was late my party had already started with drinks and an appetizer. They noted the nachos were tasty but had capers all over them which they requested to be removed. I wanted to try them but the waitress came over 15 minutes after my arrival and we had to flag her down. I had no silverware so I never got to try the appetizer. It took a while to get a drink as the wines are not listed on the menu and she didn't know what they had (only two options ... a red and a white ... I had to probe further like what kind of red and white) to which I kept being asked what do you like? I found that odd I just wanted to know what was available. When it came time to order the suggestions she gave were very confusing because she mentioned she didn't like a lot of things. However I went with her recommendation of the Seafood Orleans over the etoufee and it was pretty good. The presentation was not quite what I expected and I definitely needed more sauce. The white rice was flavorless but the fish was fresh, hot and crispy. My friend ordered the pasta and noted it was lacking in flavor/spice so she asked for hot sauce. My other friend ordered the fried rice which I found to be a strange offering but she liked it. Overall I think this place has a lot of potential our waitress was very nice and attentive after the initial long wait (I think she was the only waitress), but the flavor and ambiance needs a little work to make it more desirable as a Saturday night dinner spot, it felt more like a sports bar. read more

We went on a Friday night at 8, and there was plenty of parking in the parking lot. The space was busy, but we were able to get seated right away at the bar. The vibe was really fun. Really good 90/2000s R&B and hip hop. There were some games outside. It was r ally and say to enjoy the upbeat energy. Food/drinks, everything was just ok to me. Nothing was bad but nothing stood out. I got a guava mojito and it was just ok; I didn't taste any guava flavor. We got hot honey chicken wings and they were perfectly crispy and had decent flavor to them.The chicken empanadas were a nice size, had a good amount of filling and nice crunch to them. I got the seafood sauce with catfish. The catfish was a thin fillet and it was cooked well but really lacking flavor. The etouffe that came with it was decent; it tasted like it used a lot of butter. The cilantro rice was below average to me; really lacked flavor. My husband got the stuffed salmon and he said it was cooked well but was just ok.
