Food is phenomenal, bomb, delicious whatever language you understand it's just good in all aspect, fresh, hot, and available vegan for people like me (:. The owners are also honest, good people, which is nice not having to worry about where your food is coming from (:

Close up of DELICIOUS catered pancit. Yay for Calimansi!!!

A PARTY AIN'T A PARTY WITHOUT PANCIT Not all pancit tastes the same! I'm a picky pancit eater and my standards are high: glass noodles only, vegetables must be shredded or cut down to decent size, vegetables has to have a soft but a little crunch texture - no soggy vegetables, choice of protein must be shredded and blended well into pancit, yellow color can't be too dark or too light, cannot be too greasy, and have calamansi available for squirting. And guess what, Lady G's Canteen met my expectation! You can trust this Filipino Elite Yelper. I discovered Lady G's Canteen on Yelp as a result of searching for a good Filipino/pancit catering for a party. Without hesitation (not having a taste prior) I trusted the photos and reviews. After going to many local Filipino eateries and not being fully satisfied with their pancit, I had to trust my instincts. One thing that caught my attention was the calamansi (instead of lemon) in the photos, you don't usually get that offering at other places. 1) Called Lady G's Canteen and a very friendly lady named Jemmalyn coordinated my catering order. They deliver in San Diego proper if you spend over $40. She was kind and accommodating to deliver when my order was only $35. The fee for delivery is $5. In addition, her communication was spot on. I received confirmation and an invoice. They do not take Venmo or PayPal and I paid cash when they delivered. 2) Price to portion - portion to price, was worth every penny spent and then some. I ordered a small tray which estimates feeding 10 people. In reality it could feed probably 20-25 people because the 11 people it fed put less than 1/4 of a dent in the tray so you can imagine the left overs. 3) Delivery presentation had effort. The aluminum tray was nicely fitted and elevated over a cardboard box. This helped with not getting any food grease on me and it kept my hands from feeling the warmth of the tray. Foil covered the top with small holes for ventilation. MY TASTEBUDS WERE DANCING. All the Filipinos who had a serving had said "this is really good pancit" and I agree. Probably the best pancit I've had in San Diego. I miss homecooked meals but this will defiantly do to hit the spot. She is now my go-to person for my Filipino catering needs, especially the pancit. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! JABA APPROVED. Until the next review...

But that's pretty common these days, not just for Farmer's Market, but parking in general. Lots of food options and I don't just mean vegetables. You could pretty much have breakfast and lunch here. And enough so you can skip dinner. I almost wonder if there are more food options than other vendors. I didn't count. Don't get me wrong - still a lot of Knick knacks and other items to browse/buy other than food - maybe even something like I grabbed - a western cowboy hat. Finally got me one. Sorry - no pics. Anyway, it's busy, colorful, and fun, and it has that San Diego weekend energy. Definitely check it out if you like fresh food, people watching and spending more money than you meant to.

**August 2026: Sunday Morning Late Morning Visit**…read more I love visiting farmers markets, and this visit was a success. I was able to pick up some fresh baby blue eucalyptus plants for my shower, as well as lavender oils to really help with my aromatherapy relaxation routine at home. The Hillcrest Farmers Market happens every Sunday from 9am to 2pm and there are usually well over 150+ vendors set up along University Avenue and Normal Street. Parking is a bit tricky, but we were very lucky to find a spot in a nearby neighborhood. Once we got in, we found a great assortment of meats, sauces, dips, and more. In a somewhat hidden part of the trail, there's a bunch of exotic food options to consider, including flavors from Africa, as well as some tables where you can sit and enjoy the food. There are also flowers, veggies, eggs, honey, and pretty much anything you'd be interested in. I think we shopped for about 45 minutes as casual browsers, and it felt like a good amount of time to get a feel for the place. It's a great spot to support small businesses.

I've been to this farmers market over the years - they stopped having it for a while and it was brought back by the ASCENDKemet Collective. This last time I went there was a vendor selling coffee/pastries, one selling pupusas, one selling pizza, two vendors selling green leafy vegetables (like collard greens, kale and bitter leaf), and Bernardino Loera Farms - notable for the seasonal avocado varieties they sell like fuerte, zutano, bacon - whenever the season for those comes up. This one is in a convenient location near the City Heights Library, a nice little park, and an El Super. There is parking on Wightman on the other side of Fairmount Avenue as well as other side streets in the area.
