Not a huge chain store, of course it cant have hundreds of couches in stock. But they will beat any price I can guarantee you that. If you look at a couch online and try it in a big store like Ashley furniture and then order it through furniture plus you will absolutely receive the lowest price. As for the parking, what place in Portland doesn't have less than ideal parking arrangements? There's off street parking as well as a back alley where atleast 4 cars can park parallel. To me this is such a small issue in retrospect to paying HUNDREDS of dollars less. Okay now to my experience. My friend purchased a couch through furniture plus and they were able to get it delivered within a week to the store. I went to her house and fell in love with it so of course I had to ask them if they had another in stock. Well just my luck another one was delivering the next day, so I went immediately and claimed it. The owner is awesome and it was a hassle free experience. I've dealt with other places in the past which feel so "sales-y" this was a completely different experience. I selected fabric from at least 100 choices and settled on a very current but still classic french script design, it was ready for pickup in about 6 weeks. The whole experience was easy and stress free. My husband picked up my prized purchase from a warehouse that was at a secondary location. This ottoman has served as extra seating in the dining room, as a casual sitting/workspace in my office, and currently is at the foot of the bed in the master. In it's 6 short months of life, I have enjoyed it so much, I may have to buy another. This was my first experience buying custom furniture, and it was wonderful, the price was fair and I was able to support a local business.

I have not been here in many years. The prices are higher than I remember and I have factored in inflation. Street parking was a challange to find. I also did not really love many of the items for the prices they were. I bought 1 piece of art. It was not in the best of shape either. In addition to the numerous designs of virtually anything you could want in wood furniture, they also have some art, beautiful tiles, kitchen accessories, children's keepsake toys, I say keepsake because they're classic in design and pretty indestructible. We purchased a wooden nativity scene one year so I wouldn't have to worry about the grandkids playing with the sheep and other characters in the set. It's become a much loved family tradition. My husband and I bought really beautiful kitchen stools several years ago and then moved into a new house where their height became too tall. We brought them into the Joinery and asked them if they could modify the height by taking off part of the legs. They were able to do that and then made us 2 more at the revised lower height to go with our originals. Taking it one step further, they made our originals look like new by lovingly removing the scratches and dings that had developed over the several years of use. You couldn't tell the new from the old. The customer service is great, very knowledgeable, professional, passionate about their product and friendly to work with. The Joinery is definitely pricey, but the pieces definitely make if worth saving and planning for.

The Joinery products come with a higher price tag than most, but you're almost guaranteed to be buying furniture that is nearly hand-made quality with nice "joinery" (even if machine done with a jig) or at least I thought it was nice. My last purchase, which lost my enthusiasm for The Joinery, was the Studio Writing Desk. Nicely finished but for you wood workers out there, using pocket-hole joinery is what Ikea uses as you know, yes I said it, Ikea. While a strong joint, pocket-hole joinery is far from mortise and tenon, dove-tail, or at the very least, a biscuit joinery. These are all what you should expect at this price point. Pocket hole joinery, is cheap, easy, ugly and fast.

If you have ever priced having a piece of furniture shot with a couple coats of lacquer by a professional, who also, by the way, is being paid to properly handle lacquer, which is very toxic, you know. But those prices are comparable to the new price in its time. And you are getting a piece of furniture you can pass down generations. In fact, some of it may become design auction material in the future. They were good on my visit with cadenzas, occasional chairs, classic Knoll chairs, a few sofas, lighting. They also gather up some industrial artifacts and repurpose them, if that fits your aesthetics. One of their newest spec pieces is a walnut ping pong table, which could also be used as a dining table. This item would fit well into the tech startup world. If you are an art director or set decorator they would be a good resource. The Good Mod has moved around and as of this writing are up a creaky elevator or quite a few stairs on the fourth floor. But that gives them a new big cheap space. And note to new arrivers decorating your Pearl condos - if you can rock this style, you can patronize a great Portland reuse business. You can even fib a little and claim your hip grandparents/parents/you bought it new! The Good Mod cleans up and restores furniture from the mid-century modernist age. Reduce, reuse, recycle!
