Dr Carmine and the staff are the best I've ever encountered at any pet hospital. They are caring and very compassionate. I've had my cat there for some pretty serious illness and the care she received was top notch. Recently had her in for an upper respiratory infection and Dr Carmine treated her with compassion and sent us home with antibiotics. Every time I come here the staff is working hard on doing their best for the pets and animals of this community. They are down to earth, friendly, compassionate - they are what you would want when your pet is ill or hurt. They don't over charge and they don't talk down to you. Coming back to add (Jan 2025): Nothing has changed. These people are really wonderful. I am always comfortable and confident in the care they provide Back (Oct 2025): If there is a place to get bad news about your pet, this is where you would want to be. WONDERFUL vet, kind and patient, easy to talk to, thoughtful. Cannot say enough good about Dr. Carmen. Staff are all kind and pleasant. Their financial system is a wreck. Was told I owed for medication I paid for. Got refunded for services, then paid, and paid again to settle. Got a bill for another visit that was paid for. I just cannot trust them to handle their billing. It's a shame, adding stress for financial reasons when I never left the building without settling my bills in full, it's just not worth this. I recently took my baby to this hospital for an ear infection, and I can honestly say it was the best experience I've had with a vet to date. I filled out the form at 4 am (which only took about 5 minutes) and I received a call within 13 minutes of the hospital being open. I had emailed other clinics trying to find someone to treat my baby and still have yet to get an answer from any of them. This hospital is prompt and very professional when handling patients. The vet answered all of my questions, and being a worried dog mom I had a lot, with thorough answers which I really appreciated. The staff was also very friendly, will recommend to all of my friends with pets. My boy is back to being his energetic and sweet self with the help of this hospital. read more

My regular vet could not get me in and told me to go to emergency. The emergency hospital was closed so I tried calling my vet back and they still wouldn't help me. I called Ladysmith and at first they said they didn't have any appointments but asked what was going on. They put me on hold to check with the doctor and then told me to bring my pet in right away. I did have to drop it off, which I was a little worried about but Ashley kept me informed the entire day of what was being done and how she was doing. I called a lot and even apologized for bugging them, but they assured me it was not a bother at all. They were patient with my questions and my baby came home feeling so much better!!! They called again the next day to check in to see how my baby was doing when I'm not even their regular client. My old vet never did that!! I am switching all my pets to Ladysmith. This has been the worst place I have taken my dog to. We just moved here and found this vet nearby and saw it had 2 good reviews so we took our 9.5 yr old lab there. She went in for a teeth cleaning which I was very nervous about anyway. My husband told them previously that I do her nails and grooming. I dremmeled her nails 2 days prior to the cleaning, which I use a dremmel because it is safer than cutting, you have much more control over how much you take off and leaves less room for bleeding by getting them too short. We never asked the vet to do anything but what she was scheduled for, the teeth cleaning. I picked her up and she had blood all over her front leg, so I inquired as to what happened. I was told they took a blood sample..that was fine, they just didn't apply pressure to stop the bleeding or take the time to clean her up afterwards. When I got her home and she was laying on her bed I noticed her nails looked weird. I found almost all of her nails completely chopped off and bleeding! A couple of them there was almost no nail left and whoever did it split the nails up the side and peeled them back on the side. Needless to say I was horrified! I immediately called the office and inquired as to what happened to her nails. I was told that they always clip nails and clean ears when they put an animal under. This was a "courtesy" favor, even though I never asked for this to be done and her nails had just been done and were fine. I was told that "yes" some of them bled and they stopped the bleeding, they were real sorry. My husband called the next day to speak with the vet and inquired to who cut the dog's nails and why. He was told that they let a student practice cutting nails on our dog. Obviously this was not supervised and was very negligent. I would never recommend this small, unprofessional and extremely negligent vet clinic. I know some people have a fine experience while others do not. But who is going to allow a student to practice chopping on someone's beloved pet? I just can't imagine that someone was watching or they would have known that she cut straight across and not at an angle and cut nearly the entire nail exposing the flesh. It will take months before they are even long enough to try and get them from splitting and cracking since it was done this way. Will drive 36 miles to her previous vet for future and to get pain meds (recommended by previous vet) for the sore and potentially permanently damaged toes. read more

I have taken both of my dogs to the ladysmith hospital for many years for their yearly checkups, vaccinations, medical care and even grooming at times. Lately, I have only had bad experiences. The staff here has changed and I longer will take any of my pets there or refer them. My 11 year old lab was diagnosed with lymphoma and instead of the veterinarian calling me to give me the blood work results, they had an assistant call me and tell me that he likely had cancer. The assistant couldn't answer any of my questions and told me that the veterinarian wasn't available to speak to me on the the phone about it. This was after 2 weeks of appointments, seeing different veterinarians and a lot of money spent for his care. All the assistant told me was to have him checked out quickly by "someone". I asked him who they used for oncology and the assistant didn't know. So, I took my sweet lab back to our old vet in stafford who thoroughly checked him out, reviewed the aspiration report, confirmed lymphoma, gave me treatment options, the name of a veterinary oncologist and spent a lot of time with my boy. Ladysmith veterinary hospital never called us back to set up an appointment or check on the dog. Unfortunately, our lab deteriorated quickly and we used a lap of love veterinarian to put him down in our home. We could not allow our sweet Jake to suffer and be in pain. I called ladysmith hospital to let them know that we had put Jake down because of seizures and that his ashes would be returned to them. The lady that answered the phone assured me that they would call us when the ashes were delivered. That was 3 weeks ago. I called the pet crematory this morning and they told me that the ashes were delivered to ladysmith 2 weeks ago and were signed for by a lady named Ashley. When I called ladysmith this morning, Ashley answered the phone, confirmed the ashes were there and said oh just pick them up anytime. I asked why we had not been called and she said she didn't know. The whole experience not only shows a complete lack of professionalism but also a complete lack of care and compassion. Learning that a beloved pet has cancer is very difficult. You need to be able to trust that your veterinarian will help you seek the necessary care for your pet and help you with the very hard decisions that you will ultimately face. The animal hospital did not even care enough to let us know our beloved dogs ashes had been sitting there for 2 weeks. read more
