I really like the trails here. I came years ago and loved coming back today with the dog for a hike. A lot of bikers so be careful!

Wide and wild nature here in Lafayette Park! It's just perfect for Runner, Jogger, Walker or just chilling with your friends. There's trees and flowers, lake and fishes, birds. Everything in this park will give you therapeutic time. There's so many pro, not con! Also, I don't know why this park doesn't have any human trash. People whoever come to this park are so clean and honest.

What a lovely spot in Tallahassee to get outside and enjoy the lake view. There is an area in the trail which looks like a creativity area in which you can paint and hang up your artwork on trees. There even is a little Library there with free books that you can take and add as you wish.

Not sure how I've been in a Tallahassee for 17 years and missed this gorgeous walking trail until now. You can enter from Tom Brown (about an 3.8 mile walk) or from Piney Z starting from Lafayette Heritage Park. The walk around the lake is 2.7 miles round trip -- there is a lot to discover including Bill's Trail with an artsy stop along the way (rock painting, little library, etc), an impressive bridge, and beautiful lake views along the way. The trail is secluded enough to feel like it is yours but still has a good amount of people and families walking through which makes me feel pretty safe. This trail also connects to the Alford Greenway. We'll be kayaking the lake soon to the lower Lafayette Lake and will post more pics!

One of the most picturesque spots in Tallahassee! The Lafayette Heritage Trails surround Piney Z Lake and offer some of the most relaxing and picturesque spots in all of Tallahassee, so it definitely is no surprise to find the trails featured on the cover of Visit Tallahassee and other local publications. The view of the lake from the covered bridge is spectacular! On any given day, you will find the trails packed with joggers, bikers, and simply people out walking their dogs. The trails are well-maintained and full of people, so you never feel unsafe. The main trail winds all the way around for a few miles, but there are also many different mountain bike trails which detach off into the forest. I like to do both, so I never feel bored of visiting the park. Plus, if you're really feeling energetic, the trails eventually attach to the JR Alford Greenway and Tom Brown Park, so you'll be hard-pressed to run out of trails. The Lafayette Heritage Trail Park is a treasure of Tallahassee and I hope you get out there to experience it for yourself!

After breakfast, my family decided to take advantage of the beautiful pre-spring weather by taking a walk along the Lafayette Heritage Trail. We parked at the J. R. Alford Greenway trailhead, but took the Lafayette Heritage Trail. The trail is quiet and well-trodden, so you will have no problem keeping to the path. We walked past all the "fingers" that would reach into the lake. People fished off the coast of these mini peninsulas, although it is highly cautioned to steer clear of wildlife (aka, gators). The only way back is the way you came, but in a different time and light, it's really beautiful. You must cross a bridge at about 1/3 point in the trail (that's a gross estimate, I really have no idea in real life) which is a picturesque spot. Couples and friends were taking pictures at this mile marker. A perfect trail for walking or jogging, although the Greenway may be more suitable for running.

Gorgeous trails, very clean and well maintained. The lake is really green with algae but it was a cool place to paddle around.

Heritage trails connects Tom Brown park to Upper Lake Lafayette to Piney Z Lake to Lower Lake Lafayette to Alford Arm Heritage Park. I know it sounds intense but its truly beautiful and a legit mountain biking trail. I been riding these trails for 20 years. The city of tallahassee has put a lot of money into upgrading and maintaining them. The trails consist of all skill levels. Flat wide dirt path to narrow rough trails...choose your own adventure. All trails are labeled with signs. Most of the trails run through Florida oak and pine forest making it possible during hot summer days. Parking/Trailheads: J. R. Alford Greenway Tom Brown Park Piney Z Neighborhood

    Unreal view.

There's a multitude of ways to get onto this trail (so much so that I wasn't sure where to post this review based on location). I personally park at J.R. Alford Greenway and walk over. The trail and the bridge overlooking Piney Z Lake and Lake Lafayette allow for some breathtaking views. I recommend coming here right before sunset on a nice day and looking at the horizon over Piney Z Lake. You'll thank me for the tip later. My favorite place in Tallahassee, second only to my home. I love to bring my dog here, do yoga here, hike here, or even just enjoy the outdoors and nature.

This hidden gem is one of my favorites places to visit in Tallahassee. If you need a place to disconnect, kayak, mountain bike, fish or just do some yoga this place has it all! There are about 6 fingers that extend into the lake that you can hangout at, beautiful nature trails and wildlife teeming everywhere. Also, if you walk far enough down the trail you will get to see the most gorgeous and astonishing wooden bridge that runs right next to the train tracks! If you've never been, definitely add this to your list!!

Welcome to Lafayette Heritage Trail Park!

A little-known refuge tucked away inside the Piney Z development, this park is a dependable destination for anglers, hikers, and barbecuers alike. Play-date for toddlers/primary schoolers? Great playground facility as well. There was a time when one could hike from this park across to the Alford Greenway system but it's a very primitive path today so hikers need wear proper apparel. Great body of water - and its stocked. Boat launching by hand - no trailers permitted according to post. Several covered picnic areas with grills and refuse containers nearby. Yet another stellar service by TLH parks & rec!

    End of trail

This was seriously one of the most beautiful places I've seen in Tallahassee. The trail was great, and there was a good amount of people there. They had these little things called fingers where you could almost walk into the lake, and it was just so visually pleasing. And at the end there were little benches where you could sit and see the entire lake. Absolutely gorgeous place.

Lawmakers needed a central location as the journey from east Florida to west Florida was treacherous during the early 1800s. On a mission to find a mutually agreeable location, two sets of explorers met midway at former abandoned Native American settlement known as Anhaica. This became early Tallahassee which means Old Town (Talia+Hasi) in Creek/Seminole. The first Florida Capitol was a log cabin built in 1824. One hundred years later, a temporary replica was built. Another temporary full sized replica was built in 1974 for the sesquicentennial celebration. My dad was on that committee which inspired him to advocate for building a permanent replica for the bicentennial celebration in 2024. It was so interesting to hear about the process of building this most recent First Florida Capitol replica. So many people donated their time and energy. From sifting through historical records, to creating authentic floor plans when few existed, to donations of logs, to getting permits, it was a challenging to bring this project, a dream for my dad, to life. Having grown up in Tallahassee, I have always loved Florida history. It is nice to see a piece of history being brought back to life and to have my family play a role in that legacy. Florida is so different from when my grandparents moved to south Florida a century ago in the 1920s. I am happy to see history preserved while the city and state continue to grow. #2900

There are walking paths that loop around and through and must go for several miles. They have a small amphitheater in the middle where I'm sure there are performances and concerts here and there. A big splash pad is on one side, and I know the kiddos love that especially on a warmer day. They have a big playground on the other side, and there are some bathrooms as well just in case. Intertwined are some pond/ creek areas that add to the beauty of this park. It's a super lovely walk around, and my favorite part are the pillars towards one end that tell the history of Tallahassee- racial tensions, civil war and repair and more. It brings more light onto the capitol city and its roots.

My memories start in the late '50s when there was an annual Fish-a-thon around the lake. Imagine a bunch of children with cane poles surrounding the lake and trying to catch the biggest fish. Watch out for that hook! Sealey Elementary School (now the Tallahassee Police Department) was right there on 7th Avenue and we walked home around the lake after school. Sometimes we had to alter our route due to the frequent flooding of the lake that occurred and the usual resulting fish kills from the runoff that caused the flooding. Somewhere along the way the City of Tallahassee realized that Lake Ella wasn't much of a lake anymore and did the work necessary to end the flooding and make Lake Ella the stormwater control project it needed to be. There is now a sidewalk all the way around the lake for those that want a brisk walk or a leisurely stroll. Benches along the way are available. There is a gazebo on a spit of land that juts out into the lake. Lots of curbside parking is available. There is an old oak tree with limbs parallel to the ground that many a child (and some adults) have climbed all over. There is a small playground there with that oak. The American Legion Hall is on the edge of the lake. Many a Tallahassean has kicked up their heels to a variety of bands on a Friday or Saturday night there. The former Motor Court is now the Cottages at Lake Ella and several of those stone cottages house businesses that offer food and refreshments. There is a farmers market on Wednesdays. The only negative, for some people, will be the ducks that have made themselves at home. There has been a love-hate relationship with the ducks for as long as I can remember. Some people love to feed them but they can become a pest when their numbers grow.
