I recently visited the Greenway for the first time to walk my dog somewhere new. It seems very well maintained and we stuck to the trail. Unfortunately we left shortly after starting our walk. Within 30 minutes I picked 12 ticks off my dog. Maybe it's just this time of year, but the hassle and stress of all the ticks wasn't worth the walk. read more

An excellent trailhead at Miccosukee Road and Fleischmann Road where there is parking for a dozen or so vehicles. The 12 mile long trail was a nice space, though I didn't follow it for long. The trails are shared use and the bikers I saw were giving right of way to the walkers, joggers and hikers. Nice to see and hear the "good afternoon" as I walked. Great trail! This is my favorite Tallahassee trail. It has plenty of parking, plenty of bathrooms, the gates are never closed, all trails are shared use, and the trails vary in size and technicality enough that there is something for everyone. Whether you're a new parent looking for a place to push your jogging stroller, a horse-lover or bicyclist looking for a relaxing trail ride, a family searching for the perfect picnic spot, or a serious runner wanting to do a 16 mile long run, Miccosukkee Canopy Road Greenway has something for everyone. There are four trailheads, each with parking and at least one portable toilet; just pick the one that sounds like the best fit for you: Fleischmann Rd Trailhead (Westernmost Trailhead 30.478906, -84.220443) This trailhead has the least amount of parking, so your horse trailer won't fit here. It features a porta-potty and several mildly technical, mostly downhill trails that eventually merge together and lead to the main Edenfield Rd Trailhead. Depending on the path you take, it's about a 1.5 mile run from Fleischmann to Edenfield. Edenfield Rd Trailhead (Main Trailhead 30.484164, -84.199172) Miccosukkee's main trailhead features a large gravel parking lot, a set of bathrooms, water fountains and outside shower, and access to a wide buffed-out gravel trail as well as a clay single-track trail. The trailhead has a large field with a 1.2 mile circumference and a cluster of trees and shaded picnic tables. Taking the trails, you can go 1.5 miles SW to Fleischmann or roughly the same distance NE to the Thornton Rd Trailhead. Thornton Rd Trailhead (30.495149, -84.176250) This trailhead is popular with the horse-riding crowd for its large, round parking area. It has a rudimentary water fountain, a 1.1 mile circumference field that runs along I-10 (bring headphones) and access to two main trails: You can head west along a wide, gravel trail that runs behind Testerina Primitive Baptist Church to Edenfield, or you can head east under the I-10 overpass to the Crump Rd Trailhead (roughly 4.5 miles) along a trail that varies in width, technicality and surface but is mostly dirt. Crump Rd Trailhead (Easternmost Trailhead 30.519788, -84.130044) This is my favorite trailhead. It features plenty of parking, one porta-potty, a couple trashcans, one picnic table and two paved disabled-parking spaces, but, unfortunately, no water. This is a good spot if you need plenty of space between vehicles (e.g. bicycling groups and horseback riders) or if you just want some privacy and quiet. This trailhead features one main, wide dirt/gravel trail that leads to Thornton (about 4.5 miles) and a side trail or two that are single track and generally unkempt. The main trail and side trail connect for a 1.7 mile loop. Tip: It's around 8 to 9 miles (depending on the specifics of your route) from Crump to Fleischmann, so there and back will get you a 16-18 mile run/ride. read more

An absolute treasure in Tallahassee. Miccosukkee Greenway contains miles of trails, park benches for resting, and an eye-popping abundance of flat, green grass ready to be utilized. It's a park for all seasons. For strolling, running, biking, tossing the frisbee and/or withdrawing yourself from the real world. In my opinion, the greenway strikes a nerve for bringing along a good book (Rand or Hemingway) and a giant towel, all during a beautiful, cloudless day with temps in the mid-60s. I go out on this Greenway 4 or 5 times a week. Here you are out in the woods with nature but on a smooth walking/running/biking surface. It runs approximately 7 miles from end to end. There are numerous single track trails that run off the main path. There are four parking areas; one on each end and two in the center. The Edenfield parking area has bathrooms and water. This is my favorite place for exercise and place to escape. read more

Gorgeous trails for all activities on the outskirts of Tallahassee. The Miccosukkee Greenway has gravel trails which are perfect for walking, running, biking, or horse-riding, winding in and out of the woods with multiple trail heads. The drainage humps at intervals along the trail are probably the only thing which detract from a biking trip. read more

I love the Miccosukkee Greenway because it is such a great place for a weekend stroll or a satisfying run after work. This is also a perfect location to bike, take your dog, go horseback riding, or enjoy a nice picnic. There is plenty of parking, picnic tables, a bathroom, 5.5 miles of multi-use trails through open grasses and forests, and it is never too crowded. Although this park is a beautiful place to visit the outdoors, know that there is no playground for children. Despite that fact, there is still plenty of open space to play catch, throw the frisbee, or fly a kite with the little ones. read more
