If this were any other day, I'm sure I'd rate this park higher, but please be aware that this review is based on my experience from Independence Day. That being said, we went for the holiday celebrations, and well, this was packed more than a can of sardines. We were only there the last hour of the festivities, but it felt like an eternity. Lines, lines everywhere, with lots of disorganization as there were minimal lights and a lot of staff that were directing people to park in places further when there was parking up front. Ugh. Definitely a place to come early for a special day because it's hard to get a decent spot otherwise. The lines, lines everywhere continued everywhere honestly. The food trucks, the finding a good spot, the entering and leaving the park. Sigh. At least the fireworks were pretty. Will have to return on a regular day to see if I can actually enjoy this park rather than just think of all the stress it brought us. read more

New park discovery of a Tallahasee gem for running and hiking . This 255-acre park with 3 1 mile mountain bike trail was named in 1977 after a Leon High coach (1944 to 1946) Thomas Irwin Brown .Tom Brown was also a Babe Ruth League coach for 20 years and a Leon County Commisioner for 14 years. His love of sports was the blueprint for establishing these beautiful and well-kept trails and park. I love to find new places to run and hike while traveling and was surprised at how many baseball, softball fields, and tennis / pickle board courts this park offers. You can hear the peck of woodpeckers on trees and many different types of birds such as cardinals and swallow tailed kite as you hike on their asphalt paths or dirt trails. A must visit for any outdoor lover who wants to hike bike or run on their many trails. Plenty of wide open paths so you won't accidentally trip other hikers. If you are an avid tennis player they have many courts including pickle ball for rental. A new playground for the kiddos that includes heavy duty swings , rope ladders and a double swing to relax while letting your youngsters burn off energy so they don't take yours when you get home. Due to the vastness of this park they also offer fields for frisbee golf and soccer fields. Will probably take advantage of the tennis courts next time in Tally. read more

Wow this place is huge. It's like it's own little community of ball fields and kids playgrounds, huge dog park and disc golf. Not to mention, just open spaces with trees for shade. Super great place. Came here for the dog park. Lots of well behaved dogs running around being dogs. They have a large side and a small dog side that is fenced in. Perfect for all dogs. My BikeSexualism came out; my first time meeting Tom Brown. He had me at hello and I was in love. He showed me and my group of what wheely good trails he has to offer, and that the spoke-n-truth. And if you don't believe me, then you can just Bike Me. What a great trail and park. Not only biking & hiking trails here folks, but there's a Dog Park, BMX Park, Soccer Field, Playground, Ball Fields, Basketball Court, accessible Restrooms, Disc Golf, etc. This park is well kept; well maintained. Okay, now back to the trails. Tom Brown Park encompasses many trails and features within its park, and the best part is once you complete one trail whether long or short distance...it eventually leads you back to the parking lot. For the most part, majority of all trails loops around, making it easy and convenient to not get lost knowing you will make it back. This park has everything and all suited to all rider skill levels. First thing I notice riding around these trails are the elevation changes it offered. And there were plenty. It felt like we were not in Florida anymore, because Florida is known for its flat terrains. Riding the trails of Tom Brown felt like we were in another state. Lots of climbing enough for your lungs and legs to burn, then you are rewarded with some downhill runs. Passing through the area, I looked up places to jog and found this option. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any information on trail lengths online. I drove around a little bit trying to gauge some distance. There's lots of things here at this park, like tennis courts, racquet ball courts, kid's play equipment, a pond, walking trails, a leash-free dog park, and ball fields to name a few that I saw. I parked on the south side of the park and ran to the north end and back using the paved trail on the east side of the park. Round trip it's about 3 miles of pavement. It has a couple rolling grades but nothing significant. I saw some dirt trails but don't know where they go. I don't like backtracking while I run but did so because I thought there was too much road traffic through the park on this stop. I was running a virtual race and needed to avoid possible delays. But if I were just doing a cruise run, I think I would have also used the road and enjoyed it. I think this park is great for 5Ks or less...but nothing much longer. read more

The entire small dog park could use a renovation. Upon entering you have to walk through mud, standing water, or sand. There is little to no grass covering the ground just more sand. A auto water bowl fixture could stop the dripping water spicket. Mulch bark would cut down on the accumulation of sand. And some grass seed would help the lack of grass to grow. There is one sickly bent tree that offers shade in the hot summer. Plenty of gnats and mosquitos abound. Closing the dog park on certain days for cutting and cleaning would eliminate our fur babies from picking up bad bacteria. Pets have gotten sick. Some have shown green bodily discharge. The community would gladly donate items, as we already do, to help make the dogs visit more enjoyable. There isn't one NO Smoking sign posted,!! That is the law but people smoke all the time because there's no sign. It looks like a Homeless Dog Park . read more

I parked by the playground and walk over the water walk where I spotted tons of turtles, walking then by a grass field where people were playing sports, to a dog park that has 2 sections for small and large dogs. I have only visited a few sections of the park since I've been living here, but there are so many trees and fields for playing with your kids or dogs. There are disc golf baskets, bike trails, playgrounds, and a dog park. I frequent the latter. There is a section for small dogs and one for everyone else. The dog park has a watering station with a kiddy pool, benches for people to sit on, shady areas, and a field. There are rules to abide by when you get there. I highly recommend you check out the park if you're looking for a place to walk, run, bike, sit and watch people have fun, or play your guitar under a tree. read more

This park has so much to offer. We went hiking and Geocaching. It was a blast. If hiking watch out for the mountain bikes zooming through the shares paths. There are baseball, soccer fields, BMX and RC tracks. There are squash and tennis courts. The park is very clean and has a giant children's playground. Nice dog park area with lots of other things to do at the park. Very spacious. On a Saturday evening, vehicles fill up parking lots and the dog park is especially crowded. One thing to note - I did not feel there were enough park attendants, or if they had any attending at all. Dog fights would burst out, and the small and big fenced in dog areas were not separate, as the gate between them was left open. read more

I was back at Tom Brown Park last week, and I'm impressed with all the newly-paved roads that they've put in. The road to the lakeside playground and picnic area has been totally replaced, and no longer has potholes. It goes over near the Dog Park, and is definitely the preferred route now! There haven't been any recent improvements to the Small or Large dog parks, but they aren't as crowded as they were during the summer. They still don't rank up there with the Bradfordville Dog Park or the J. Lee Vause Dog Park, but Tom Brown has seen some improvements. read more

Truly a park for all occasions! I love to mountain bike here on the technical trails, relax in a hammock under the trees, grill up some burgers, or walk beside the pond. If you like disc golf, Tom Brown is home to the main course in town. The dog park here is also one of the main draws, as it's the largest in town and great for working off some of your pup's energy. Tom Brown Park is off of Capital Circle winding past the Animal Shelter. There are many events at this park for all different occasions and Holidays. Mostly, we came here every Sunday to visit the dog park. By 11:00AM the park is hopping with many different breeds of dogs, and most of them well behaved. This is an excellent dog park that is well kept and has an area for small and large dogs to keep them separate. The facilities are nice, and so are the patrons and their pets. Everyone here is very respectful and it is great fun, if you are an animal lover. It is completely free and a great way to enjoy the outdoors with your entire family, dog included. If you have a dog and live in Tallahassee, I would be surprised if you have not been here yet. read more

Simply fantastic. My boyfriend and I have spent many Sundays here with our dog, who loves the dog park! It's really nice that they have a separate fenced area for small dogs and big dogs. Plus the dog area is huge, plenty of room for the doggies to romp and get all their energy out! My boyfriend plays disc golf there (I just walk with him, walking the dog), and he loves the course. There are 24 holes in total, and walking from hole to hole is almost like hiking, you go into the woods, up and down hills, and across bridges- so pretty! We've also walked most of the bike trails with the dog off the leash. It is so secluded and pretty, plus the trails go by many streams, which the dog can play in, which is so nice! read more

This is one of the best city parks I have ever been to. It is huge and has activities for everyone, including: some of the best mountain biking trails in the state, areas to wash your bikes, hiking trails, disc golf; baseball fields and other sports facilities, a pond with a raised walkway around it where you can fish, multiple play ground areas that are very nice and big, pavilions for picnics and birthday parties, a dog park, a paved trail for running, walking, biking, etc. They also hold many events and festivals in the park including a Fourth of July fireworks display. My wife and I are lucky enough to live close by in The Reserve. We can ride our mountain bikes from our front door, onto a paved shared use trail, over the pedestrian bridge, and into the mountain bike trails. We love to mountain bike so I can talk about that feature the most. There are trails for all skill levels from beginner (paved and shared use trail) to experts (the Cadillac Trail). They even have an area for BMX style biking with jumps. The Cadillac trail connects Tom Brown to Lake Lafayette Heritage Trail Park which is another great Tallahassee park. read more

I was in Tallahassee for a week (work related) with some downtime. I ended up going to this park 3 days in a row! It is amazing! Very well planned out by the city. Has something for everyone and the trails are incredible. The scenery is unbelievable, something out of a movie with all the enormous live oak trees. Never would have thought that there was a park this nice in the city of Tallahassee. Originally went there because I had read about the dog park. So I wanted to take Morris there. Turns out the actual park was a much nicer place for him. I went by there on a Saturday so there were plenty of people there. But given the size and layout, it never seemed very crowded. Tom Brown is my go to park in Tallahassee. I love walking the trails and also taking my dogs to the dog park. There is a section for small dogs and two for larger dogs, but usually smaller dogs will be found in the large dog park. Be weary of going during the summer - the dirt turns in to mud and if your dogs like water they WILL find the mud puddles. read more

I use this park primarily for mountain biking, but I am also fond of their Disc Golf courses. I'll tell you what I love about the biking in this park. The city of Tallahassee as of late has allocated lots of cash to make this park better on the biking end. Trail Dynamics from North Carolina is constantly adding new technical areas on the Cadillac and Magnolia trails. There are mainly intermediate skill leveled trails with an occasional advanced section on the mountain bike tracks. There is a BMX track, a small downhill flow track, and an advanced gun range jump section in addition to mountain biking tracks. The system of trails is fluid in its connections. You can connect from the Fern trail (behind the Publix at Blairstone) and connect directly to the park. You can then take Cadillac east and connect to the Alford Greenway and beyond. I have had the pleasure to ride some other great trails in Florida like Santos and Alafia, but I truly love this park. Come out and join us! read more

One of best city parks I've ever been too. My boyfriend and our Furry friend go atleast once a week or TRY TO go atleast once a week. The Dog park is large and always clean, and I've never seen an owner not clean up after their furry friend. The running trails are amazing, as well as all the bike trails. I have not completely utilized all of the park, but I take my dog to the dog park portion of the park every once in awhile. I like that the dog park is divided into large and small dog parts, but I can't help but feel like it's a little smelly and feels dirty in some parts of the park. I know it's a dog park, but I notice there is a lot of poop just laying around. I feel if everyone picked up after their dogs it wouldn't be too much of a problem. Otherwise, the park is pretty spacious & I would recommend taking your dog here if you want more space compared to the San Luis one. read more

Great park. It's very beautiful and clean. There are plenty of things for kids to play on, train tracks to walk near and picnic tables for eating as well as a lake and dog park! I have so many memories here. I would eat lunch near the lake with my friends during lunch while in my high school years.
