Great dog park in the heart of the City. Huge real grass lawn (former baseball field), with large rock hill for the inquisitive ones, completely cyclone fenced so they can't escape. The people and dogs there are generally nice and I've never seen a dog fight. Our corgi loves to run and chase the dogs who are fetching balls, they don't seem to mind. There are two water faucet areas, several benches and picnic tables, about a dozen plastic chairs, many shade and sun areas. Good double gate in, with lots of garbage cans. Closed on Wednesdays for cleanup. Decent parking on the side street, with a children's playground down the hill. Douglas overlooks Noe Valley and gets nice sunny weather, and it's not too windy. Great spot for pups!

All time favorite park in the city!! Every time I go to sf with my dogs I always stop by here. It's huge. I love that you can go on a little hike in the middle of the city. The lush greenery is amazing. The only downside to this park is they close it during the winter season. They have a water fountain and another water station (with a hose) on opposite sides of the park. A few benches to sit on. The park doesn't supply poopy bags but there is a plastic container where people can donate and leave bags. There is only one garbage bin by the entrance. My dogs love it here and thankfully we haven't had any problems with any other dogs or their owners. The hike around the perimeter of the park is pretty easy. It does get slippery after it rains so I'd be cautious with certain areas. There is rope tied in between trees to help you out. Also be careful of roots sticking out.

I have never been to this dog park before, and one of my dogs, who's 10 years old is rather picky about playing with other dogs at the park. Lol he loved the outdoor setting of this park and the trail wrapping around and up the Fenceline! I was ecstatic to see him run and jump/strategically walk up the side of the mountain as I was inspecting the area. Lol my other husky was perfectly fine playing in the grassy area with other dogs while my adventurous husky loved running up and down the hillside! Lol I will definitely bring my dogs back to this park!!!

Upper Douglass is a unique, picturesque dog park with a wide open field to let the dogs play and sweeping views of the day in downtown San Francisco. Back in the early 1900s it was a rock quarry and was converted into a park in the 1930s. The entire space is fenced in with a double gate at the entry to ensure the pups don't run away. There is also a nice short ridge hike along the upper portion that you can have some nice wall on and get away from any chaos in the field. As shown in the pics there's also some hurdles for training and tricks. Please avoid bringing in food or picnicking here as dogs will be dogs, it is a dog park!! And best to wear old clothes and shoes as likely to get dirty, as there is frequently mud and dusty dirt in many areas. Pros: Nice views, wide open real grass field, well maintained, bathrooms nearby in lower Douglass playground, nice ridge hike, fenced in. Shady areas and plenty of chairs and benches to relax while dogs play and socialize. Nice pine trees and eucalyptus that cool the area on a hot day. Cons: Can get busy, particularly 9-11 and 1-3. Can get chaotic with so many dogs in one space, skirmishes are likely to happen, if you're dog has food issues or behavior issues maybe where mask/muzzle or go elsewhere. Can get very muddy/dirty. Parking can be chaotic as its on a tiny cul-de-sac.

My dog loves this park! It's so big and there's so many dogs to play with. This is a great place to work on recall skills too, to make sure your dog listens to you, even among chaos! There's no big/small dog areas, it's a free for all. The area is beautiful though, wonderful views and it's nestled in a forest-y area, so lots of grass and trees. If it's rained recently, your dog is gonna need a bath after they visit here though! It's worth it since my dog seemed to have a ton of fun running around here.

Didn't get to go in but Street parking was easy and the view is amazing. Will def come back 3/25/22!

Charlie's favorite place! Windy, spacious and full of dogs, Charlie runs and plays the whole time he's here. The park has 2 great features. It's high up and the view is spectacular. Also there's a big hill on the west side of the park and Charlie loves the bushes, squirrels, etc. One caveat - don't come here if you don't like hilly streets. They are steep, some of the steepest I know where you don't park sideways.

Plenty of puppies for Mia to play with!

My pup's favorite place to play! Well... Mine and my boyfriend's favorite place to take our pup... Haha! I came here on the first time on a Friday afternoon! The park was full of dogs for our puppy to play with. I like that there are a large variety of dogs here, ranging from small to big! I also like that it's fully fenced off and has a mini hiking trail that you can do with your dog. The park is pretty clean and well-maintained. There's also water fountains for your dog to get a drink! It's a great place for any dog that wants to run around, play fetch, or wrestle with other dogs. Just be sure to not come on Wednesday, because it's closed then!

My favorite dog park in the city. Sure it's not the most beautiful (Fort Funston takes the prize there), but it's very safe, has great views of the city, and seems to have friendly dogs (and more importantly dog owners). Funston gets too crowded for me on the weekends and I've found that some of the people (and dogs) aren't always that nice. I think this has to do with it being so big that it doesn't have the same sense of community you'll find here...

Nice dog park, overall. One thing that I wasn't comfortable with is how there's an area dogs can wander through that is right next to a cliff high enough that serious injury is likely if they slip for whatever reason. There's a good view of the city and I have not had trouble finding street parking on weekday afternoons. People are pretty good about picking up after their dogs here.

    Happy flying dog!

Very nice, spacious, fenced in dog park. There is lots of room for dogs to run and play, and they (and their humans!) can even climb up the outer edges of the park with all the trees. It is equipped with water and trash cans, so I haven't really noticed too much of a dog poop problem. It can get quite crowded with lots of dogs, but we've never had a problem before. Just take your dog up the mountainous side if they're feeling overwhelmed! You can actually get a pretty nice view of the city from here too!

View from the trail around the park.

Great for dogs of all sizes to socialize and run. Big, grassy with lots of dogs to play with and areas to roam and explore.

Beautiful park always filled with lots of dogs to play with!

Ask the Community - Upper Douglass Dog Park

    Are they open during COVID?

    It's open now.

    Is the park open?

    "Annual winter closure" til 3/27.

I usually go to Stern Grove but you have to be mindful that there are coyotes up on the woodsy part so I don't let my dog explode there. Does anyone know if this one is coyote free?

Thanks I guess I should rephrase. If this park is fully fenced and locked at night I think it would be unlikely that coyotes would be able to get on and breed there. Stern Grove is open and migration goes with that. Would that be the case here?
