You'll see mix of dogs in different sizes in both sides, and some of them are very aggressive and not well behaved, that's why I wouldn't recommend coming during peak hours. read more

Cool looking dog park on the north side of Golden Gate Park by the bison. It seems good enough for the dogs of course. Located between Spreckels Lake and the northernmost of the Chain Of Lakes. Has lots of trees for them to pee on and bark at. This is in one of the more popular areas so it can be pretty crowded but it's still okay usually. A good way for dogs to get exercise. It's located next to the Bison Paddock. That's one of the park's biggest attractions so it can get busy here at times. Even so it's not that bad. There's a fountain to fill bowls with water. Clean as apparently most pet owners clean up after the dogs. There's also poop bags available if you need these. One of the few dog areas around here that's fenced in. This is great to keep the big and small dogs away from each other. For sure it's a good place for the dogs to run around. It's pretty clean. There's not piles of poop and trash. read more

As with any dog park, the kind of owners depends on the time you come. I do not come at a consistent time so I see all different types of dog owners & I try to do a bit of training around the fence of the dog park to see if I like the vibe at that time for my dog. Overall, I love this park. It's split into a large dog & small dog side, with a connecting gate in the middle that humans can open to go through with their dogs if they wish. The large dog park full of sand but also has a concrete path and a small section of artificial turf. There are plenty of obstacles for my German Shepherd to jump on, around, & underneath. He loves the wide open space of this park, & I love that it is fenced so I don't have to be worried about him running too far from me. The sand is very nice to assist in picking up my dog's poop! I came here to just relax at midday while having Lunch , but Dog Owners and Lovers should check out this great space. There is a really huge space for Large Dogs , and a nice space for smaller dogs both with water fountains. Opposite the fenced dog park there is a small park with benches to enjoy. FYI , Dog Play Area guidelines are posted , and are pretty simple with rules addressing leashes , noise , waste , and a doggie code of conduct. This is a great space to let your dog socialize or just dog watch. To get to the Dog Park if coming from the Richmond enter the park at 36th Ave, and take the 1st Right after entering the park. If in the park head to 36th , and take the 1st Left when you have Spreckles Lake to your Right. There is an extended sandpit, turf areas, wooden fixtures for them to climb. Great spot for dogs to play and run around, theoretically. This review is really a warning to dog owners for the weekdays between 9am to 12pm (have not been there during the weekends). My dog doesn't vibe with dogs that excessively bark and dogs that are allll turnt up when they are meeting for the first time. I've also witnessed an owner who fell asleep on the picnic table and let their husky just up ONTO the table. When I left this morning, there was a sad looking lab that stayed at the corner of the dog park, all by itself. It looked like as if it was telling me "get me the hell out of here, these dogs are crazy". On weekday mornings, I would rather walk my dog on-leash around Golden Gate Park than to return here. Maybe I'll come back for the weeknights/weekend. read more

My girl Molly and I have been to GGDP a fair number of times. It is a very big park with small and large dog sides. The large dog side has three terrains - grass (fake), sand, and cement. Molly gets a little shy if she feels rushed at greetings which I feel like always happens here. There are usually SO many dogs (more than I've ever seen at once at any dog park). Dog walkers will bring throngs of their clients here so it's always a party. There are some benches for the humans and of course a lot of standing space. A great park for social dogs! read more

This is my go to dog park for my 16 lb dachshund. We go to the "little" dog side (I do wish there were signs to indicate but haven't run into an issue with a big dog being aggressive in the little dog area) We go here at least 4 times a week and my dog just loves it. I have met some amazing dog owners and I feel at home here. Love the sand portion and the Astro turf portion-- my dog likes playing in both. I will say, I prefer taking my dog on the weekends or after work around 6 pm because during the day on the week days, it's dog Walker central. I don't necessarily have an issue with dog walkers taking their clients here however, it can make me a little uneasy that only one human is responsible for watching 20 dogs-- so I just choose to avoid those times. I do not recommend this dog park. Local dog owners are very aggressive towards strangers and dogs they don't know. I never write reviews, but if any of the readers were attacked by those people or their dogs, photo below, you can contact me. I filed a police report against them, and the policeman said that if these people repeat this kind of harassment again, they will no longer be able to visit the park. They act like you're visiting their backyard and not a public park. Me, my dog and others woman and her dog were attacked by two people on the picture and several of their friends. Their dogs were very aggressive towards our dogs, tried to attack them several times, and the owners, instead of calming their dogs, asked us to leave the park because their dogs do not like our dogs and that they always come to this park , and we are new to them, and their dogs know each other, so they get along well with each other, but not with the new dogs. We told them that they should leave if their dogs were acting aggressively. They followed us in the park, provoked their dogs on ours, verbally abused us and forced us to leave. It was terrible discrimination and very stressful. We came from far away to enjoy the park and had to deal with all this stress. read more

I visited a friend in SF and we took ours puppies to the Golden Gate Dog park. I was born/raised in SF, but now live across the bay. I've taken my dogs to many different dog parks, but this one is absolutely beautiful. Nestled in GG park, the dog park is almost settled in the woods. I loved the scenery. Both dog parks have separate entrances. So the large and small dogs don't have to intermingle (for those who don't want to). Both sections are very large. They have artificial grass and sand. We went on a Saturday and there were a lot of people (and dogs). The only reason I marked it down a star was because of the water fountain. You can knit a sweater before you get a full bowl of water. I brought my own bowl, but there are plenty of water bowls (which were all empty). Most people brought their own bowls and water bottles. read more

I've never been here before, but my boyfriend said it opened up during the pandemic. Goodness!! Such a great way to tie her out the puppies! Lol as they ran across the sand, it reminded me of when I used to run at the beach! Lol granted it was very dusty with all the dry sand, I'm glad I had a mask on so my allergies didn't go haywire! Lol there's a couple of rocks formation and real wood limbs that the dogs can also climb or jump on as well. One of the dogs started digging a hole underneath the wooden structure and then my dog played hide and seek! Lol great park very well-kept and they even had a small dog park area. There's also a grassy, fake grass area behind me where a lady was teaching her corgis different commands. Since my dogs are bigger, we just stuck to the main Sandy area! Took my puppy here for his first dog park experience and loved it. We went to the small dog side (my dog appreciated the separation and he could relax). People were friendly keeping an eye on their dog, lots of space, turf and sand, picnic tables and benches. Puppy came home a tired, happy dog. Definitely going again and again. read more

Do NOT go to this dog park. Months ago it was fine - - - - dogs under 25 lbs. were in the smaller of the two parks and dogs over 25 lbs. were in the larger park. Smaller dogs were allowed in the larger park. Sadly, now massively large dogs are allowed in the smaller dog park. Yikes! Unleashed dog parks have risks, but the risk is magnified if large dogs are mixed with small dogs. A large dog can fall on a small dog. The park signage doesn't even exclude food, aggressive dogs, dogs in heat!!! We went there a week ago and there were no dogs in the larger park, and there were many large dogs in the smaller park. We will not go there again until the signage is improved and the rules change to conform with safety and reason. read more

There is plenty of turf, sand, and concrete in the small dog area. - Water fountain, a few benches, and plenty of space to separate out from others even with a large group of people and dogs - You can see the bisons up close and personal on this side of the park nearby too. Improvements - None really, everyone was keeping an eye out on their dogs. - Large dogs can run alongside the fence that separates the small and large dog area causing some barks occasionally, but it's nice to have separate spaces. Tip: Turn into 36th Ave if you are on Fulton St and you have to drive past the lake to turn right into another path to this dog park area. The park itself is fine, plenty of amenities for dog owners and dogs themselves. But the people that go here, there's a small dog park section and a large dog park section. It doesn't take a very high IQ to figure this out. But for some reason every time I go there there are rowdy big dogs in the small dog area. And every time I go there a small dog gets hurt because of this. Also, I feel like people need to take their faces out of their phones and watch their dogs. We've stopped going here because every time we do some aggressive dog attacks ours and nobody takes accountability... Kind of disappointing. read more

There is no sign that indicates there is a small dog side and a big dog side even though it is indicated online and known from respectable dog owners that there are two areas so that small dogs can stay safe while playing. Some owners choose to not be respectable and let their large breeds (who are not gentle with small dogs) play in the small dog area and remain there despite being asked to take their large dog to the appropriate area. It would be helpful if there were clear signs to point to for the separation so I could just blame their stupidity on not being able to read instead of just being ignorant. Took our dogs here today and the smell at this place is absolutely terrible. We tried going in to see if the smell would go away when we were further from the trash bins only to find out it's basically a giant litter box for dogs and the smell did not lessen. My dog wouldn't even pick her ball up out of the sand because of the stench. And she licks her own butt so that's saying something! read more

Huge space with a huge sandbox, perfect for letting my high energy pup run (when she's able to make a friend with a similar play style). People here are friendly, most dogs are great. I've been on weekends and weekdays, middays and evenings. The only times I wouldn't recommend would be weekdays around noon. It seems that that's when all of the dog walkers bring their clients, which isn't inherently a bad thing, but I was one of maybe 7 or 8 humans in a huge sea of dogs. There were only two of us who weren't walkers. There were probably 10 dogs to a walker, and with that many dogs it's already hard to keep an eye on all of them but most of the walkers were also talking to each other. I ended up leaving after my dog spent a significant amount of time standing next to me and after watching a ton of dogs harass the other owner's pup mostly unchecked. read more

Stinkiest dog park in SF. With the massive budget Rec & Park has, they installed fake grass in this dog park? WTF? It smells of strongly of dog urine, whereas the sand and other others do not. Figured it would be less stinky after 2 rainstorms, but that didn't help at all. Golden Gate Park is a jewel & deserves much better management than it has.
