Art installed a Garmin angle of attack with heated probe and a LiDAR landing height sensor with…read moregear sensor in my Mooney. It was a tight fit, but Art made it work. He was able to retain the look of the factory panel without any tricky-tacky switches added on. He used existing access points in the glare shield to mount and route the AOA display. I calibrated the AOA in flight with the help of a co-pilot and everything worked as advertised the first time. Very clean installation from a very experienced avionics expert. Worth every penny.

I called to get a quote for work based on the positive recommendation of a local FBO. Specifically (for you nerds who might be interested), I wanted to replace the GMA 347 in a Cirrus Perspective (G1000) with the GMA 350 that is shipping in newer models. The man I spoke with sounded inconvenienced as soon as I explained what I wanted to do. He said the software wouldn't likely support the new panel. I suggested it probably would, since I was getting the newest software with an upcoming ADS-B installation, and I know in fact support for the panel is listed on the release notes. He said that he'd have to check with Garmin, and I said that was fine, he could get back to me with a quote. He then asked why I wasn't doing the panel upgrade along with ADS-B with my other shop. I replied that I'd heard Peninsula Avionics did great work, but if they weren't interested I'd look somewhere else. He said "okay," and that was the end of the conversation. There are two sides to every story, I fully understand -- but I was blown away what I thought was going to be a friendly call to get a quote and ended feeling angry about the way I was treated. Maybe this was too small of a job to be worthwhile. Maybe they don't work on Garmin equipment. Maybe he was just having a bad day. I really don't know what happened or why, but I'm baffled at the lack of customer service when soliciting what would have been a several thousand dollar job.
