Walked in and was seated immediately, drink to our table in seconds, it took more time to decide what to get than the time it took for our food to arrive. The salsa is ridiculously spicy. When most people look forward to going to a Mexican restaurant, they anticipate the chips and salsa. You think of tomatoes, fresh vegetables and onions piled up on a tortilla chip. The salsa here is so hot that you can't taste anything. It is almost straight jalapeño. The spice actually numbs your tongue. It wasn't like this for the first few years they were open, they just started doing this in the past year or so. Earlier this year, they actually went back to the way they used to make it for a few days and then went right back to the insanely spicy salsa. If they really want an extremely spicy salsa, they should at least have an option for a milder version for everyone else who likes to be able to taste the salsa. read more

We got takeout so I'm sure the staff is friendly and it's a nice atmosphere, but based on food alone, it's as generic as you can get. Fajitas, quesadillas, salsa, and queso.. almost no spice on anything or salt.. the salsa has a peppery taste but again no flavor. This is my #1 Mexican restaurant. I do not lightly place a restaurant as first. This is not Tex Mex or a New Mexico version of Mexican cuisine. This is authentic. This is my go-to Mexican restaurant in Mandeville. Reliably good food, great service, and very clean.

I had lunch here today for the first time. Just your average Mexican food. Nothing great or exciting. The food was actually pretty bland. Not much taste at all. What I wanted wasn't on the lunch menu so I ordered from the dinner menu. I was surprised at the amount of food I received. I was just talking to somebody last night about how most restaurants these days give you way too much to eat. Not this place. It was the complete opposite. I had a burrito / enchilada combo with beans and rice. The rice and bean portions were really small, especially the beans. There were barely any at all. There was very little meat in the burrito and enchilada. They were mostly tortillas. $13 later I'm feeling ripped off. The plus is that the staff was very friendly and the restaurant is pretty nice. They have a bar and the dining area is pretty large. 8 or 10 booths I would say and several tables. read more

This place was a great find! Good Mexican food, moderate prices and friendly service. The refried beans were outstanding! I tried a crunchy beef taco, cheese enchiladas (I don't care for the white cheese), rice and beans. It was all pretty good and I'd go visit again. The chips and salsa were good but the salsa could've used a lil more spice. Our server was bilingual so we were able to speak Spanish which is a huge plus. It's a small place but very clean and nice. My new favorite Mexican restaurant in Mandeville (although it's been here for a while, this was our first visit). I had the Steak Street Tacos, WOW....I want to know what street these came from, because I want to live there. My wife ordered the à la carte steak burrito and my 13 y.o. son the enchilada, both loved it. My 10 y.o. picky son ate the cheese nachos. More than enough food and service was great. This is gonna be the new go to place for Mexican food. Lagos is a small place with some great wait staff. The margaritas are awesome, and are not the run of the mill cheap mix. Had the sampler app and it was big enough to be the whole meal. You gotta try the mini chimichanga plate. Devils Shrimp Tacos, yes devils shrimp tacos. I wanted to like this place a lot more than I did. First of all the staff is very quick and friendly, you sit down and get fresh chips and salsa. Chips were hot, thin and crisp. Salsa was house made but had could have had more heat, actually it could have had a lot more heat but thats just me. I wish all Tex-Mex joints would offer a hot vs bland option on the salsas ( I can dream). We went in for lunch and the portions were huge. My wife had steak fajitas and I had a cheese enchilada, bean burrito combo plate. If the flour tortillas are in house made, they taste like store bought. The fajita meat did not have that flavor I expect from steak fajitas and they were on the tough side. I don't know what was missing, I've tried making fajitas at home and I can't get the right flavor myself. The cheese enchilda and bean burrito were good but bland. One last comment - this is not a Mexican restaurant, this is a Tex-Mex restaurant. Don't go in expecting moles. read more

For an appetizer we ordered the Lago guacamole w jalapeño on the side. It was chunky, not smooth as usual, and tasted good. It went well on top of our tacos. For our meal, I ordered the Lago tacos ( very tasty ) and my husband ordered the Cancun tacos (very rich flavor that was delicious and my favorite). There was plenty of shrimp in each taco and the seasonings were on point. The restaurant was clean and the service was probably the fastest I've ever had; the food was out within 5 mins. I've only been to Lago a couple of times but both times I was pleasantly surprised. Their menu has a lot of the same items that most Mexican restaurants have (at least here in the south) but a couple of things that stood out to me were their Lago's guacamole and their margaritas. The guacamole is made with big chunks of perfectly ripe avocado and tomato tasted so fresh (no old avocado flavor!) and perfectly seasoned. Their margaritas were tasty and reasonably portioned, not too sweet. Our server was attentive and incredibly accommodating to my questions about food allergies. The menu has plenty of vegetarian choices and the one time I asked them to make a certain dish vegetarian (fajita nachos) they were were happy to do it for me which I really appreciated. I love Lago's & I think it is the best Mexican food in Mandeville! Their service is personable, friendly & fast. The inside of the restaurant is bright, clean & cheery. My daughters enjoy their festive music & we have shared many family celebrations over a wonderful meal at Lago's. Their combination plates come with rice & beans, which are 2 sides that never fail to please. My kids love the kids menu & their enchiladas are by far our very favorite dish, here. Their soup & salads are also very good. Whether you are dining in or taking food to go, generous servings of fresh chips & salsa come with your meal as well. I am also a fan of their strawberry margaritas, watermelon frescas & their pie sized quesadillas. Taco Bell is down the street but are you kidding me? Pick up a few fresh tacos at Lago, which will run you about the same price as Taco Bell & you will never go back to Mexican fast food. Raves to Lago, you are the best! read more

Ate dinner there tonight, I had to send my food back twice before they got it right the third time. Had to ask for refills and some silverware to eat my food. For the first time ever in my life I did not leave a tip, and I always tip well. I will not be back. The other party with me left just there change and the waiter came out side and threw it towards us as we were leaving. If he would have done his job he would have gotten a good tip. My daughter got a beef quesadilla and it was overstuffed with ground beef only. No flavor even to the ground beef. Thought there would be more too it. The food at Lago's is pretty good. Maybe not as good as La Carretta's, but better than Mi Mamicita's. They are pricey, though. Even with the lunch specials, the drinks and extras can bring the bill up pretty quickly. Most restaurants include the drinks with the kids' items, which can make for a pretty inexpensive lunch; not so at Lago's...the kid's menu items do not include drinks. read more

Got them the other day for a Togo order. Honestly wasn't that impressed but for the price you got a good amount of food. The chicken had a good flavor but the pork was dry and seemed over cooked. The food here is very good. I'm usually not a fan of Mexican food because I think it all kind of tastes the same wherever you go, but the food here is excellent. It's usually not very busy for some reason. Even better than the food is the service. Mariana was the person who was taking care of us and she was flat out awesome. Usually food is what makes or breaks a restaurant for me, but in this case the food was great but she was the selling point. All of the staff is really nice and helpful. Went here for our first time. The in-laws had my son and we were on a spur of the moment date night. It was Friday night so I'm glad we got there early (6PM) because when we left there was a long line to be seated. The restaurant itself was super clean and decorated nicely. We had a friendly server who was fast and helpful. We ordered their special guacamole which was basically chunky and a bit more expensive. It tasted good but wasn't anything super special. I got the Devil Shrimp Tacos. They were described as spicy. They had a tiny kick but were not overly hot. They were well seasoned and delicious though. I asked for beans instead of rice and they happily substituted. My husband got the big crazy bowl of grilled meats. He said it was similar to fajitas. We had lots of left overs. I would gladly return and could easily bring my 3 year old next time. Yummy food, good service and great atmosphere. read more
