The overall experience was wonderful with just a few "good to know" pieces of info. Be sure to look up the Catalina express ferry schedule on their website ahead of time. During peak season, spots on the boats can fill up fast. So booking as soon as you know your Catalina plans, reserve your spot. Also, be aware that parking at Dana Point is an extra cost. I really appreciated the DETAILED information that Catalina Express sends once you book your tickets. I would have been lost without it. I really appreciated the smaller boat size out of dana point. The staff is very friendly. We booked an overnight trip and came on a later in the day, less crowded boat. Speaking of crowds, the most popular boat time going to the island are the morning boats, and the most popular leaving the island times are later afternoon/early evening. ALWAYS BOOK YOUR RETURN FERRY TRIP WITH YOUR ARRIVAL FERRY to ensure you won't be stranded on the boat. The boat is super clean and we had a nice ride to and from the island. Highly recommend this ferry over other choices.

Carnival sails out of LB while Princess, Crystal, and NCL sail out of this one. Both terminals have their pros and cons, but I slightly prefer the San Pedro port over Long Beach for several reasons. First, parking here is super easy. There's a large open and uncovered parking lot that has plenty of spaces. Expect to pay around $23 per day to park. It's easy to drive here, but the surrounding area is pretty industrial. It's safe, but those vacay vibes don't kick in until you're actually on the ship. Check-in can be a mixed bag. When it's organized, it moves quickly and smoothly. When multiple ships are leaving at once, it can feel crowded and a little chaotic. Security and boarding are fairly standard, but this port employs an outside private security company. That means the employees can often be surly and downright rude. I guess it's good they keep us all safe, though. If you arrive before your specified time, be aware that you WILL be standing outside in the direct sun. There is no shade, no overhang, and no seating. It's best to arrive late rather than early. Once you are inside the terminal, there are rows and rows of chairs where you can sit and wait to board the ship. The terminal has restrooms and usually cups of tap water are provided while you wait. Boarding the ship (especially Princess and NCL) is pretty painless and simple. Of course, it helps if you have an elevated repeat customer status on a cruise line because you'll get to bypass a lot of the lines (but only inside the terminal). Dropoff and pickup via rideshare is also easy, and there are plenty of porters waiting and eager to take your luggage. Be sure to throw them a tip if you let them take your bags! Traffic folks keep the flow of cars moving pretty quickly, and it's so much more efficient than the total clown show at Long Beach. Overall, the LA World Cruise Center is functional and no-frills, and that's all it needs to be. Not exciting, not awful, and just a reminder that the real vacation starts once you step onboard.

There's a play area for children. Dog relief area is also available. The women's restroom was clean. Very spacious for luggage to go in the stall if traveling alone. There's also a hook for your bag. I like that there's automated paper hand towels. Lots of food/drink options like Starbucks, Sambazon, Brodaed Express, Qdoba Mexican Eats, Jamba Juice, Taps Brewery, Market 949 (for souvenirs and snacks), and etc. There's a food court with seating near Terminals 14-22. Our flight was for Alaska (Terminal B) but they were in Terminal C since they were using Frontier's gate. Luckily you don't need to go through TSA again and can walk down the long hall to get to a different terminal. Highly recommend flying about of John Wayne Airport when you can!

I recently flew out to Santa Ana (John Wayne Airport) for my first time in several years for a…read moreconference in Anaheim. It was easier to fly into this airport than LAX. I have made a number of trips between Phoenix and Santa Ana previously through both Southwest Airlines and American Airlines. Though I traveled to Anaheim, I didn't have time on my trip to enjoy a lot of what makes Anaheim unique and special (including Disneyland). I flew on American Airlines this time and found myself flying in and out of Terminal A. It was easy to navigate between the gates, baggage claim, and ride-share areas. Unlike friends who absolutely hate flying, I enjoy the travel experience, especially when using some helpful tools like CLEAR, Global Entry/TSA Pre-Check, airport lounge membership, and airline status, most of which I was able to enjoy during my Anaheim visit. When checking in, I typically have been able to skip the check-in area if I didn't need to check bags (as I checked in online). I have previously needing to go and check in at the priority area for assistance and checking bags. I then went to the Terminal A check-in and used Global Entry and TSA Pre-Check Touchless to skip most of the line at Security while keeping my shoes on (thanks to an American Express Platinum card which comes with credits for both along with CLEAR). Santa Ana offers two airline lounges (Admiral's Club and United Club) along with a USO Lounge. The Admiral's Club was upstairs right next to the gate that I ended up flying out of. Fortunately, I already had access to the Admirals Club. I wrote a separate review about my experience there, which was quite positive. There are also plenty of stores and restaurants at the airport throughout the various terminals. Upon arriving with my luggage, I headed to the rideshare area upstairs. There was a staff member there directing everyone to one area or another depending on if you were using Lyft or Uber. Coming back, it was easy to be dropped off at your airline checking area. I have no idea when I plan to be back in Santa Ana again but I would certainly welcome the chance to fly through the John Wayne Airport again.

He hooked us up. Place is nice and clean with all kinds of snacks and drinks (though, we brought our own grub). Plenty of comfortable seating, tables, plugs. Very nice for pilots/crews. They guided my daughter in, fueled her up and guided her out when she was ready. We had a nice dinner in the pilot lounge with daughter before she had to fly back to Arizona. Great time. When I called to talk to the owner and complain about the vehicle, he threatened to charge me more money because of the 10 min stop, even though we paid for 3 hours. Wouldn't recommend.
