Luck would have it, my assistant chose this company to book my first surf lesson ever. Justin was not only clear, concise and knowledgeable, he also had me laughing the entire time and set me completely at ease in the water. I sincerely feel sorry for the other group having a lesson next to me with another company. They were missing waves, being knocked over and it seemed more like the instructor was just there to rent out surfboards. Ethos actually focused on the basics then got me on waves and helped me feel confident and comfortable within minutes of the lesson starting. Went kayaking with Ryan and Justin while visiting my family in Southern California this last weekend. I was really appreciative of Justin as I had just hurt my hand the day before and he offered to be my kayak mate!! Despite my injury, we were able to lead the pack, but no worries, they will go at your pace!! Both Ryan and Justin were very skilled and knowledgeable. He clearing explained what we would be doing and gave us a safety chat. Any questions we would ask, he answered them with great thought. We were so amazed at how beautiful this location is. We would call it one of the best sights in the world. Justin gave us exceptional information on the history of Laguna Beach and of the sea creatures we could see and not see. For those of you that are not sure about your physical stamina, it was not physically demanding and pretty smooth paddling there and back. You are not rushed and can take your time. Justin does a great job filling you in on local sights & history. A skilled & knowledgeable kayaker for sure. He gave good instructions on how to paddle and maneuver the kayak. It helps if you've kayaked before and if you have core strength - if you have a weak core and/or back, tell Justin so he can be your kayak mate. I paired with an older family member and the struggle was so real!! But Justin saved the day for us. Also, get up early and do as early as possible. Couldn't have asked for a better guide and experience! My six year old son was really excited to go kayaking for the first time and Justin made it awesome. We got to see dolphins up close (like 6 ft away), a few harbor seals hanging out in the keep bed and garibaldi. Justin is very good with kids and found a spot where my son could jump in and see the garibaldi with his goggles underwater - not an easy feat in high tide. Just went out with Justin today! I cannot recommend him enough. I felt so comfortable and safe and had the best time. I will most definitely be scheduling another lesson with them soon! We were out in the water practically the entire time. I really appreciated that every wave I took, I received feedback on by Justin. I really enjoyed having that second pair of eyes to help correct the small mistakes you can't see yourself. They have wetsuits and boards for everyone and a changing area for you. The review is based strictly on the customer service, not the actual tour as we never went on it. I made reservations for a kayaking tour on 9/6 @ 11 a.m. It was supposed to be part of our getaway to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary. We drove around for over an hour looking for parking to no avail, not surprised since it was Labor Day weekend and the hottest weekend in years in SoCal. At 11:07 a.m., I called Justin to tell him we wouldn't be able to make it and ask if we could reschedule for the next day -- at whatever time he had availability.(To avoid losing the $159 for the tour, we were willing to cancel our plans for Monday). He returned my call within a couple of minutes to tell me they were totally booked for Monday -- Labor Day. He also asked that I check with him via text in about 1.5 hours to see what he could do as they were leaving for the tour. I texted him at around 2 p.m. asking to let me know if he could accommodate us. He said he could do it at 11 a.m. the next day. We arrived at the area, Heisler Park, shortly after 9 a.m. to avoid the parking issues. We walked around for a while until we got a text at 10:25 a.m. from Justin saying the tour was cancelled due to the rough waters and that they'd try again the next day at 11. Unfortunately, due to work obligations on the following day, that didn't work for us. While the cancellation was a total disappointment, we appreciated Justin's responsiveness, responsibility to ensure safety and willingness to work with us despite our inability to make our original reservations. The icing on the cake was we were refunded the $150 for the reservation without asking. Since we're in the Pasadena area, we visit Laguna regularly. We'll definitely go kayaking down there soon and rebook with Laguna Ethos. read more

Had a surf lesson with Justin and Joey, and it was a blast. Justin is a great teacher and kept it simple for a beginner like myself. While the lesson flew by, I managed to stand on the board a few times. Please note that this will be a physically demanding activity, so be sure that you're in good condition. Wow what a great tour. It was everyones first time kayaking in the ocean and we were a little nervous at first. The guides made us all feel safe and they were very knowledgeable with guiding us thru this amazing adventure. They even offerd us some time to go snorkling . The guides had so much information and history to share about the area. The 90 minutes was a perfect amount of time to see and do everything. Just need to get to tour 30 minutes early to find parking. Have fun. Im definitely going to do this again and try their other tours. Had so much fun on our kayak tour! Justin was very communicative leading up to the day of the tour. Parking can get crowded so just give yourself some time. The Laguna Ethos truck is located right outside the address he sends you, you won't miss it and you'll meet him there! Once you arrive you can leave whatever you need inside his truck that's locks up. Justin will even take pics of you out on the ocean if you don't want to worry about bringing your phone. We had a great time out on the open water, felt safe the whole time as the guides were keeping a close watch and making sure everyone was safe and avoiding any hazards while also having fun.
