The food was mediocre for the price. None of the wait staff wore masks.

It's basic, bland Tex-mex. You've been to a million places like it. Nothing special. It is fine if you know what to expect.

Americus is lucky. Blessed even. This is one of the best Mexican restaurants I've been to. Does…read morethat include Mexico? No, but Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona - yes. I tried a few items: birria taquitos, beef tamale, carnitas. The taquitos were the best I've ever had. Tamale, solid. Carnitas, fresh and well prepared. Verde was fresh with a vinegar hit that balanced the pork wonderfully. Speaking of birria, 1) never had them in a taquito form and that's a shame and 2) their birria is spread over numerous available options. This is the way. Why is this so rare? Love it. Yet another thing that makes this place amazing. Service was outstanding and capable. We had a party of six and were well served. The bartenders were always genuinely smiling - it's obvious they were happy to be there. That is rare, sadly, and goes a long way. I ordered a "skinny margarita" (always embarrassing) to get fresh mix and I was rewarded. Very well crafted. The building itself is almost but not quite "fine dining" nice. Unexpected in an affordable Mexican restaurant (sorry - truth). I'd take a date here no doubt. Beyond happy I got to experience 1800, but sad that I live so far away from it.

Ordered a couple of drinks while we checked out the menu. Drinks were very good. We'er from Calif so we know good mexican food. The salsa was very good. I dont care for just heat, I need flavor and this had that. I had the three chicken enchilada plate. Again the flavor was was spot on. If you are in the area I would give this place a try.

My favorite dishes are the Pollo Frito (Fried Chicken), and a grilled shrimp dish I can't remember the name of. It's pretty noisy when it's packed out, which is kinda often, but otherwise the noise level is ok.

It's right next door to Rescue's and behind Keith-A-Que and pretty much in the same parking lot as Piggly Wiggly (I recommend accessing it from the Piggly Wiggly parking lot). I've ridden by it several times and did not notice it for a long time. I was expecting some dingy hole-in-the-wall, but it was actually a very nice little restaurant. The tables were nice and nothing looked really beat up. It is a small family business and they clearly take pride in what they are doing. They are not open from about 2 PM to 5 PM daily. The chips and salsa was pretty standard fare and better than many Mexican restaurants. I didn't taste any cilantro or anything like that in the salsa. I know some people find it repugnant. The cheese dip was pretty good. I heard that they used to put jalapenos in it. I could only imagine large nacho jalapenos in it and I actually thought that sounded pretty good. I ordered the Chimichanga Dinner (ground beef). It didn't take very long to get my meal and I uploaded a picture of it. It was plated pretty well I think. The chimichanga itself was very good. They certainly spice their beef and it had some heat to it, but it had flavor as well. The shell was crunchy and delicious and the Mexican rice underneath paired well with the meat. Some people may want to have some extra sour cream with their meal to counter the extra heat. The guacamole was pretty standard and reminded me of other restaurants. The guacamole was not the best I've ever had, but it was still good. The beans didn't really feel like they were good for the meal, but I'm not a huge refried bean fan and never find them impressive. I would have much rather had more rice and more guacamole salad. The service was excellent, quick and friendly.

It's a clever (or perhaps just pragmatic) setup; that market itself is a gem, stocked with an impressive array of authentic Spanish and Mexican goods. We'll definitely return for provisions alone. Inside the dining room, the space is spotless if somewhat dated--simple, no-frills decor that prioritizes function over flair. Our server was cheerful and energetic, a bright presence, though service proved inconsistent; she largely vanished after taking our order, leaving us to wait an inexplicable 30-plus minutes for food despite only two other tables occupied. When plates finally arrived, the portions were strikingly generous, almost comically so for the price point. We began with the complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa carried decent freshness and a mild kick, but it wanted for seasoning--more salt, a bolder hit of garlic and cumin would have elevated it from passable to memorable. No refills appeared, which felt stingy given the "free" promise. The horchata, however, shone: creamy, deeply flavored with cinnamon and vanilla notes, refreshingly cool and well-balanced--one of the better versions I've encountered recently. The carnitas dinner plate delivered on volume: a mountain of moist, crisped pork that had all the textural appeal one hopes for--tender interior, satisfying crunch on the edges--yet it arrived curiously underseasoned, lacking the salty, savory depth that should define the dish. Homemade refried beans were a highlight: smooth, flavorful, clearly made in-house with real care. The Mexican rice held good seasoning too, though it verged on dry. Steak fajitas followed the same pattern--giant heaps tender strips of beef and soft, well-cooked vegetables in generous heaps, but again, flavor felt muted, as if the seasoning hand had been unusually light. It's puzzling: everything executed competently, meats tender, produce fresh, yet the palate kept searching for that missing punch of spice, acid, or salt. No where else in COLGA gives this much steak, so very grateful. The shrimp cocktail appetizer (small portion) justified its price through quality ingredients--clean, plump shrimp in a classic tomato-based sauce--but it was straightforward, nothing transcendent. The queso fundido with chorizo fared far better: authentic, house-made chorizo with real spice and depth, melded into creamy, stretchy queso that felt genuinely homemade and deeply satisfying. Desserts redeemed much of the meal. The tres leches cake was textbook--moist without being soggy, richly soaked in the three milks, properly sweet and authentic in texture. The chocoflan, though, was the standout: flawless layering, silky flan with just the right caramel note, dense chocolate cake beneath, executed with evident skill and genuine flavor. In the end, this place offers undeniable value through abundance and some authentic touches (those beans, the queso, the desserts), alongside a market worth the trip alone. But the persistent lack of seasoning across the savory dishes left the experience feeling curiously flat. It's hard to muster enthusiasm for a return meal when so much potential goes unseasoned. Still, another visit to explore different menu items isn't out of the question--perhaps the kitchen's bolder preparations will hit the mark. For now, it's a solid neighborhood option for quantity and certain homemade elements, but one that needs more confidence behind the seasoning to truly impress.
