Learning to blow dry curly hair is no easy feat--it takes a little bit of time and skill to master. Ellie was my hairstylist for a blowout. Her wash skills were extremely weak. She barely used her fingers during my wash. She just moved my hair around and rinsed off the shampoo. Once I was placed at her chair, she commented on how curly my hair was. I then said my hair requires a ton of heat if not this will be a waste of my time. I felt as if she brushed my hair and barely blow dried it. At the time of checkout I presented a Yelp coupon of $10. They seemed annoyed and only honored $5. Two hours after my blowout my scalp feels as if I never received a professional wash and my hair is completely frizzy. Waste of time and money. I had pro addition put in my hair a few months ago. This is a treatment I've been using for over six years and I am well aware of how to maintain my hair as I had never had a problem. I am living in Florida for the past two years permanently but own property out here for the past 10 constantly going back-and-forth. I am well aware of the weather conditions. And how to maintain my pro addition solution. I am realizing after I went to the salon a few months ago my hair has been freezing, denting, and not staying as straight as when I do the solution in New York. The owner seemed somewhat sarcastic after I explained that something is clearly wrong. I am used to getting this done in New York and flying back-and-forth to Florida as I never had this problem. She's insisting it's product which I've been using the same sulfate free shampoo for many years and it's not cheap and works well with the solution. She also had an attitude and system she is from New York and I'm not used to the weather which is hysterical since I come to Florida all the time. She wants me to come in so they can do a touchup but after the arrogance on the phone and paying $100 more than what I would in New York, they could honestly go to hell. I don't need attitude. Sean was able to use his makeup magic wands to give me the nose and cheekbones that this city's top plastic surgeon couldn't. He also did the most perfectly symmetrical cat eye I ever had. We talked the entire time about our favorite products, and I'm pretty sure we became best friends. I mean, he is fabulous and super fun just like me, so it just made sense. I arrived half an hour late, was rushing to leave the last half hour and still looked beyond great. The stylist and staff went above and beyond by finding & buying a backless bra for me while my makeup was being finished. While my thick hair could have used many more bobby pins to avoid it falling before I walked down the aisle, I can attest the stylist tried her hardest as she almost emptied a can of spray on it. Elle Blow Dry and Makeup Bar was what attracted me to this cute little salon in Surfside. Pretty cut and paste simple. You can call and make an appt or even better, go online and book your package. When they first opened a few years back they charged $36 for wash and blow as well as a style of your choice such as their Signature Elle (soft waves), Jet Stream (flat iron) beach waves and even side or top knot ponytail. I appreciated that because with having long hair, most salons would typically charge $40-$50 for blowout and an extra fee for any iron. I've checked in a few times over the years because of the price and their hair stylist Arleny. Friendly, personable and always did a great job. I'm not always lucky to book her at every visit but one thing's for sure, she's primarily the reason they're getting 1 star. I've also had full face makeup done in December, 2014 for a wedding. I don't remember the male beauticians name but he was also very friendly and engaging. I was happy with my services until just recently. I was out with BOB (Balling On a Budget) and was surprised to see they've raised their blowout price to $40. I know this may not seem like much but I do like to tip my stylists so I work that cost into my total. I was ready to hit cancel until I noticed that they now offer an 'eyes only' makeup option for $25. That sold me for this visit cause they usually charge $75 for full face. I arrived to find the front desk attendant asking one of the stylists if they would do my blowout. With little hesitation she accepted. She did a nice blowout and flat iron curl. Thanks Dania. The reason for the second star. Andrea lets me know she was going to be doing my eyes. I showed her a pic on my phone and the first thing she asks is if I really want this. A little bewildered I said yes and she responds with sure, we can do that. I think it will make you look very old, but sure I can do it. Being the passive person that I am, I went on to show her something else and again she recommends that this wouldn't be a good look for me. Now at this point my gut is telling me one thing, but I gave the benefit of the doubt to see if her recommendation of what she calls a 'smokey eye' would work. I told her I'm going to trust her and she smirks with 'you should'. She goes on to keep asking me if I want to do full face. I kept it real and said no thank you it's just not in my budget. This changed her demeanor. Her body language just made it seem like she's annoyed I'm not giving her the full face package. If the service I booked says 'just eyes' then we shouldn't have to discuss anything further. I understand you're going to upsell but at this time I've made it quite clear of what I can afford to do. If there's anyone that should have an attitude it would be me cause NO ONE should say what she said to me. Do you go to a clothing store and try something on to hear the associate tell you sure, you can wear that. It would make you look like a fat ass but sure you should buy it. I mean....who says that? Needless to say that thus 'smokey eye' was nothing more than black eye shadow covering the entire eyelid. There was no real blending from inner to outer lid, no contrast, not even a little highlighter below the brow line. It was some primer, LOTS of black eyeshadow covering my entire lid, little attention to my brows and a few strokes of mascara (Few strokes as in almost none). The corners of my eyes were not even clean. The end result was that instead of not looking 'old', I looked like a raccoon. I was not happy. I refused to think that if I said that I wasn't happy, there was nothing she could've done to make me feel any less than she already did. Let me mention that she did, somewhat, apply the foundation I brought but asked me if I have any shine control powder at home because my skin is incredibly oily. I'm 'old' enough to know a few things: what a 'smokey eye' is suppose to look like, my imperfectly oily skin as well as when there's a sneer behind everything she said to me. I was so livid that by time I made it to my car I couldn't believe that I paid $80. Where did the extra $15 charge come from?? Instead of going back in I had to rush home and complete my foundation base in all the spots she missed, blend the corners and fix these messy lids as best I can before my event. Her demeanor and attitude was plain unprofessional. Her attitude is the reason I don't plan to return. I will gladly take my beautiful hair, skin and eyes elsewhere. read more

I had been going to LAAH salon since it was open. This year I went to get my color done, which I was told the formula was still in the system. Unbelievably, my hair was turned PURPLE. I contacted the owner the next day. She said I just needed to rewash it. It was Still purple. A few days later my sweet hairstylist suggested a toner was needed. In 40 years I've never had a toner. It came out much better; however they charged me again for a complete do over. Now I know why the entire staff quit last year. The owner sent me a nasty email. I DO NOT recommend this salon because the owner and manager are terrible!!!!! They both lied to me about text msgs and never offered an apology. read more

I was visiting a friend and hadn't had my hair done in months because of the virus. I'm a honey/beige blonde and usually have highlights every 5 weeks but this time had several inches of grey/brown root. Emily went in and balayage/highlighted my whole head. It came out incredible, I don't know what products she used but the blonde is absolutely perfect. THEN she somehow did my haircut in a matter of minutes- the perfect long layer- like so effortlessly while making me laugh the whole time! I'm so happy. I found this cute little salon a week before I left for a trip to Miami Beach. Yesterday, I walked in for my blowout and Roshi introduced herself and said she would be taking care of me. She was nice and fun to talk to. My hair looked amazing. The only issue I had was before Roshi shampooed my hair, she asked if I wanted a deep conditioner. She said it so casually, I thought it could be included. Of course it wasn't and I should've asked but also I shouldn't have to ask "is this extra?" every time I get something done at the salon. I even asked if her taking a curling iron to my hair was extra and she said of course not. I wished I asked about the deep conditioner because that was an extra $20 that I wasn't planning on paying. The receptionist didn't make eye contact with me at all while checking out and once I expressed my surprise to the extra charge for the conditioner she gave me a very sassy "sorry." Lahh Salon's " Lahh to you" is a game changer. She arranged for my grandmother to have a cut and color before her cancer treatment so she could feel perfect. My Grandmother has been afraid to have her hair cut as due to COVID-19 and her current health sitation. Emily and her team not only made her look beautiful she made her feel special during these difficult times as well as took every known precauction to assure her safety during these times. I've been living right next to this salon for the last few years and I can't believe that I only now just discovered how great they are! I had an appointment right when they open up at 10 AM for a blowout with Marilin. Upon entering, I was asked if I wanted a beverage which immediately left a good impression on me. I was under a time crunch because I had to be somewhere else by 11 AM so I needed my hair done in 30 minutes. Marilin did a phenomenal job and did my hair in 30 minutes precisely! I asked for "beachy waves" and I am very satisfied with the results. My hair held up all day and night! This could be due to their use of Oribe products.
