Great food. Great atmosphere. Nearby. It's hard to make a small town restaurant thrive but the owners seem to be doing it well.

I had work out at Heritage Lake and decided to take my husband along and looked up restaurants in the area. The setting was beautiful, a slow day on the lake--no boats and a gentle lapping wave of the lake with warmish fall sun. They had a happy hour menu, being the bargain lady that I am--was excited to try! Well, we were greeted by our server and we ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc which she told us they were out of, we managed to go down the roster of wines which they were all out of with the exception of Pinot Grigio. Disappointed--we ordered it anyway since the happy hour special was 25 dollar bottles. I was hoping to have the special breaded tenderloin sandwich, but realized it was only on special on Monday's. We were thrilled to see an entree of walleye, watermelon, cucumber and onion salad plus fried biscuits and apple butter on the menu! We didn't hesitate to order it to share , as walleye is one of our favorites! They also had corn chowder--which sounded great to me. So I ordered it. Our wine arrived with two very cloudy stemless glasses. We both looked at the glasses with slight fear and we both simultaneously picked up our napkins to wipe them off. My husband's glass was dirty--like dirty, dirty. The napkin was pink with lipstick residue and strawberry seeds. I immediately took the glasses back to the bar to exchange for moderately clean ones. Strike one. The food came and didn't look terrible. I'm sorry, but I took one bite of that fish and knew immediately it was not walleye. It tasted definitively of perch--which I have never been a fan of. Have you ever had a brown corn chowder? I haven't, but I was willing to give it a try--two bites and I was not impressed and abandoned it. The French fries were the best part of the meal, unfortunately. Thank God for the wine! Did we complain? No. We weren't in the mood and I was too tired. But the server did ask if I disliked the soup. I couldn't lie. She immediately took it off the bill. And my husband, being the observant one noticed something white in the bottom of the watermelon bowl. Unsure what it was, he picked it up and it seemed to be a piece of raw fish. Could be wrong but it definitely was out of place in a bowl of watermelon. And when the server brought the handheld register--she preselected the 25% . I'm sorry, she was good but not great. I gave her 20%, even though I was very put off by her thinking she was worth 25%. Plus, on the ticket, it had suggested tip amounts based on the after tax amount. I have always been taught it was on the subtotal. I dunno--that kind of rubbed me wrong. I would return possibly for cocktails maybe, but I will definitely leave the food alone.

There is a Barney entrance for those over twenty one and also a family entrance. My son and I stopped in around 12:30 and there was one family eating in the family side where there are two poll tables available for play. The sign said seat yourself, but since we were getting carry out to take to my other son then we walked past the foosball table and kitchen and went into the bar area. The bar tender was friendly and offered us a menu to order from. There were possibly five other diners in the bar area and it was a very quiet atmosphere. I ordered the Wallychanga, which is a deep fried tortilla filled with pulled pork and Mac & cheese then topped with melted cheese sour cream and Bbq sauce.I also ordered the banana pudding which I was told comes in a huge cereal sized bowl, however, the bartender was told they were out so she refunded my money. I'll need to make another trip to try the pudding. While we waited we played foosball. The menu has so many yummy looking things and when my youngest got his food delivered then he said his triple straight up smash burger was the best he's ever tasted! My Wallychanga was so good l, but it was so filling I wasn't able to finish it all and actually could have spilt it with someone. We will be sure to plan a day trip to return!

Just wish the place was a little cleaner as we went to seat ourselves and all the group high-tops were dirty. We ended up wiping down the tables ourselves. I didn't see that they had any specific staff for cleaning the tables, but since the ketchup bottle was empty, I can tell those tables had been neglected for a while. I thought my burger was decent, but the fries were excellent. I would come again and try something else next time.

We received two sausage links. The sausage was slightly spicy, which we like. However, of the three meats it was our least favorite. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. She recommended the green beans. Her description of them was right on target and they were very good. Service was very fast and our bill was accurate. They are first come, first serve, and do not accept reservations. We would return again.

Brad is also the Advance Town Marshal. The menu offers bbq, burgers, tenderloins and chicken sandwiches. There are no prices on the chalk board menu, our sandwiches ran $10-$11. You order at a small counter in the rear of the dining room. Addi took our order and we took a seat. Assorted sodas and cold salads can be selected as you order. Addi brought our food to our table after 15 minutes and told us we're to find sauces. I had the bbq pork sandwich with fries. The sandwich is packed with a heaping portion of tender, juicy pork on a deli roll. The sandwich was a solid 5. The fries were ok. My husband had the breaded tenderloin, which was most likely prepared from a frozen patty. The sandwich was good, but not great. (Always order the bbq in a bbq place.) Seating is on wooden benches at trendy handmade tables. Also, an outside area has several umbrella covered. There is a small private parking lot and plenty of street parking. They are opened seven days a week but only for lunch. They do not serve alcohol.

Hostess was friendly. Very welcoming. I felt like I was stepping back in time in some sense. Now to the food. I had every intention of ordering bbq but instead opted for just a burger with all the fixings and fries. Quite possibly the best burger I've ever had. Fresh doesn't begin to describe the taste. I asked for lettuce, pickles, onions and tomatoes. I'm not even a huge tomato fan. But this puppy was thick and tasted straight out of Grandma's garden. Fries were hot and nice and crispy. Plus, not only did the $12 cover the burger and fries but it also came with a drink. They have gallon jugs of tea and lemonade in a glass-cased refrigerator. It's help yourself style. They also have bottled sodas if you prefer. Tables are picnic tables with benches. Very relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend. My ONLY issue is they're only open until 2pm and that's Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday. I happened to be in the area on a Thursday during lunchtime so I thought I'd stop in and help a local business. But do yourself a favor and check this place out.

Their cute little restaurant is across from the post office. I wanted a sandwich to go and they had $13 lunch specials that included a selection of sandwiches, a side and drink. The dining room is neat and tidy with old photos of Martinsville and subtle pig decor. Outside is a really nice covered patio where pets are welcome. My food came out quickly in a paper bag with my name on it. The BBQ brisket was phenomenal. The sandwich had several generous slices of thick brisket with slightly burnt ends, but moist and tender inside. The meat melted into the bun, which was soft and fresh. This was the best bbq sandwich I'd had in a long time. The spicy sauce, came on the side, was really delicious, too. The cole slaw is prepared in-house, finely chopped with a sweet vinegar dressing. It was crunchy and good, and a I've portion. Easy 5 star lunch. Free street parking. I'd stop by every time I'd mail a letter if I lived here. And I'd mail a lot of letters.
