Great food. Great atmosphere. Nearby. It's hard to make a small town restaurant thrive but the owners seem to be doing it well.

Only five tables, which were filled with bbq lovers. Fortunately, a table opened up while we were waiting. The clerk was salt-of-the-earth friendly and hustled to keep tables clean. Pulled pork plate with baked cabbage and honey coleslaw. The baked cabbage and coleslaw were delicious. The sides are made fresh in-house. The portion of pork is huge. They put 1/2 pound of pork on each plate. I took more than half home for later. The plate comes with 2 pieces of Texas toast if you want to make a sandwich. Four types of house made sauce are on each table. Habanero bourbon sauce is spicy, sweet and was my favorite of their four sauces. I normally love Carolina sauce, but their Carolina sauce tasted overly mustard to me. Parking is tight, especially on Fridays at lunch. There is a bench to eat outside if you have your dog or just want to be outside.

Seating is also tight but there is room in the back and tables outside. Order at the counter and wait for your number to be called for your meal. You can also see the pit with the meat cooking. There are plenty of options though there is no true 2 meat plate. That's ok because I made it work. I went with the spare ribs meal and then took the Chuck Norris home to my wife. The ribs were tasty but they gave my jaw a workout, which I do not like. The Chuck Norris though was an impressive sandwich. It came on Texas Toast with pulled pork, brisket, fried egg, bacon, onion, and Pimento cheese. The brisket or pulled pork would be what I would go to next time. For my sides, I had beans, potato salad, and Mac and cheese. All were phenomenal but potato salad was the best! It was a mustard base whipped style. The beans were the pinto beans/ranch style with tomatoes and a vinegar taste. The mac and cheese was creamy with goldfish on top. There are 4 sauces and all were phenomenal. I wish I could take all of them home!. You have the tomato bases in a mild, zesty flavor and a spicy, habanero flavor. There is also Carolina Mustard and Bama white. I think I loved the mild the most. There is fresh-brewed sweet tea which is hard to come by in Indiana but this Bama Boy would love it to be more sweeter. It was a step above water. The Chuck Norris, sauces, and sides make Rusty Silo easily a 4-star. If the spare ribs were easier to chew, a 5-star from this guy would have been given.

Even holding your breath, you won't be able to stomach drinking it and it will ruin the entire dining experience. Next, A+ for the Ambiance. You can't do better than the beautiful views of Heritage Lake. Especially when it is nice enough to eat outside. If you live around the area, most likely you will see someone you know and it is nice to have the local hangout. The prices aren't great, but they aren't high end expensive. They have specials and happy hour so you can save money. The portions are large so many people will likely have leftovers. On the visit today, our food was just so-so. We've had visits when the food was really good and days when the orders were mixed up, but usually it's ok or better. Mostly if you stick with the specials you're good. Today one of us got the fish and chips special, and the other got a smash burger and coleslaw. My food tasted ok but it looked on the burned side or like the grease needed changed. My husband said the coleslaw was super dry like it was shredded cabbage. He did like my fried which I shared. They were actually the favorite of the meal. I didn't eat the bun on the sandwich but it looked like it would have tasted good, maybe like a hint of garlic bread. I just don't usually eat bread on fish. Anyway, food was just ok for the 45.00 price tag for two lunches, two waters. I believe they have lunch specials or lunch prices, versus dinner prices on some things. Again, if you're at the lake and are looking for ambiance, this is the place. Stick with a burger, fries and soda or beer or one of the specials. Stay away from the water.

There is a Barney entrance for those over twenty one and also a family entrance. My son and I stopped in around 12:30 and there was one family eating in the family side where there are two poll tables available for play. The sign said seat yourself, but since we were getting carry out to take to my other son then we walked past the foosball table and kitchen and went into the bar area. The bar tender was friendly and offered us a menu to order from. There were possibly five other diners in the bar area and it was a very quiet atmosphere. I ordered the Wallychanga, which is a deep fried tortilla filled with pulled pork and Mac & cheese then topped with melted cheese sour cream and Bbq sauce.I also ordered the banana pudding which I was told comes in a huge cereal sized bowl, however, the bartender was told they were out so she refunded my money. I'll need to make another trip to try the pudding. While we waited we played foosball. The menu has so many yummy looking things and when my youngest got his food delivered then he said his triple straight up smash burger was the best he's ever tasted! My Wallychanga was so good l, but it was so filling I wasn't able to finish it all and actually could have spilt it with someone. We will be sure to plan a day trip to return!

Just wish the place was a little cleaner as we went to seat ourselves and all the group high-tops were dirty. We ended up wiping down the tables ourselves. I didn't see that they had any specific staff for cleaning the tables, but since the ketchup bottle was empty, I can tell those tables had been neglected for a while. I thought my burger was decent, but the fries were excellent. I would come again and try something else next time.

She figured I'd want my favorite--the big slab of meatloaf with Texas toast. Nope...no meatloaf...not this time. Her timing was perfect as I've seen advertised and heard from reliable sources about the famous "Big Al" from Pappy's. I made my request. She immediately agreed that it had to be tried. The Big Al isn't just a heaping mound of pork. It's a heaping mound of pork on Texas toast with just the right ratio of a sweeter sauce and.....here it comes....a big clump of Mac and cheese!!! It was like a modern day Dagwood with pork, Mac and cheese and sauce. WOW!! I have a sweet tooth. I like a bit of salty with the sweetness. But the creamy Mac and cheese with the perfectly chewy (al dente?) pasta made this sandwich a hit. The sandwich, along with their perfectly crisped French fries were a great combo. It was a HUGE portion and definitely required some to be held back for leftover lunch. Here's what makes the sandwich even better: this was designed by a local teen and his wishes were for some of the profits from the sandwich to go back towards a worthy organization. I'm intentionally leaving some information out so those who don't know will go and discover the rest of the story on your own. Get out of the house and head to 111 E. National ASAP. Pappy's--Meat---Eat---Repeat. There are plenty of choices if the Big Al isn't for you. My wife and I are pretty partial to their bread pudding, too!! You can't go wrong. Last thing that has always amused me...it's also an educational experience going to Pappy's with their animal anatomy drawings on the wall. It's a clean place with tons of room to maneuver. Good stuff!!!
