- Not well maintained as Bellevue parks - We checked it out on a Sunday, and I had to use the restroom. The toilet was overflowing and there was no contact information for maintenance anywhere. There were several honey buckets outside, so I guess this happens frequently(?). It was quite packed with a group hosting a private event and the courts were all full. We walked around the park with our toddler, and there were tons of random kinks on the ground. I even found a piece of broken glass that wasn't super far from where my daughter was... The lake was pretty though, and there were people fishing. I think it's less maintained than Bellevue parks... read more

Stopped by Lake Boren Park on a sunny Saturday afternoon for the first time, and it turned out to be a great spot for the kids. The playground was well-suited for a range of ages, with swings, a see-saw, and even a small climbing wall to keep them entertained. There was plenty of open grass for families to lay out picnic blankets, and a covered area that was bustling with what looked like a birthday party or community event. The park also has solid amenities like tennis courts, a volleyball area, and a basketball court for older kids and adults. I especially enjoyed the shaded walking paths, which offered a nice break from the sun. The one downside was the bathroom. It was in poor condition and definitely could use some upkeep. Parking was available but packed due to the nice weather, so we had to park a short walk away. JY review. read more

Great park for a warm day. Easy walk for elderly folks. There are 2 small playgrounds. Good number of benches around. Some picnic areas. And a tennis court area. Parking lot is a bit small, seems to be the case for the parks we've seen on the east side so far. Would definitely come back. read more

OUR LITTLE SECRETS Newcastle Lake Boren Park Concerts in the Park I tell you but don't tell anyone else...ok? NEWCASTLE I have lived and raised my family here for more than 20 years and for good reason. This very friendly comfortable little city has many wonderful attractions. We have easy access to Seattle Bellevue Airport and the country. We proudly offer Yeas Wok Tapatios and three Starbucks (see reviews on Trip Advisor). We have five banks three nail salons two veterinarians three pizza places (see TA Tuscan Stone review) a dry cleaner Safeway QFC B&E Meats Bartells and Newcastle Fruit and Produce. Round out Newcastle's charm with McDonalds Subway and Pet Pros and you my friends are all set. Oh by the way we have lots and lots of new apartments! LAKE BOREN PARK Actually has a lake stocked with trout and a very nice pier where you can teach your kids to fish. There are several paved paths for jogging walking and wandering (all that wander are not lost) as well as wooded trails for nature hikes and dog walking. You will find a well stocked playground with a bark floor for soft landings plenty of benches and seats for us older kids and lots of open grassy areas for frisbee sunning reading or daydreaming. Round out Lake Boren Park with parking tennis courts bathrooms pinic tables open and covered and an entertainment stage and you my friends are all set. They host many activities throughout the year including 4th of July on The Lake with a spectacular fireworks exhibition (scares my dog crazy) and their Concerts in the Park series. CONCERTS IN THE PARK Featuring local talent for four shows on Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30 July 19th through August 9th. The groups are all family oriented with a variety of country pop/rock jazz blues tribute bands (Eagles) and other genres...and they're good...and free! Add a blanket chairs cooler and picnic goodies and you my friends are all set. Which brings me to the good part. Last night was the first concert featuring the talented local pop/rock band White. Anchored by long time Newcastle resident Alan White on drums who might sound familiar to you older rockers as Alan was the drummer for the 70's 80's supergroup Yes and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recently. The last time I had seen Alan play was 40 plus years ago with Yes at RFK Stadium in Washington DC...we're still rockin'. White also features local keyboards lead and bass guitar brass and a talented female vocalist. The evening was beautiful (we deserve it) the band sounded great and I enjoyed listening to a master perform his art (not AARP). Alan White does not play the drums...he is the drums and they him...an effortless melding of sorts. I have been fortunate enough to have seen this fusion before watching Eric Clapton and Jimmy Paige play live...praise. Alan is the skilled helmsman piloting a solid sloop (the brass boys) carrying the guitars keyboard and vocals and the audience on a melodic fantasy sailing adventure. White's wonderful lead guitar player made his Strat talk and his slide guitar speak in tongues! Keyboards laid down solid support often making his Korg Triton synthesizer sound like a B3. Their steady bass player set a strong rich bass line for all to hang on to. A guest drummer sat in and also accompanied Alan well. Their lead vocalist (noticed Alan singing background as well) showed off her strong pipes on Ben E. King's classic "Stand By Me". The band performed several Yes songs (ya think) featuring their '83 hit "Owner Of A Lonely Heart". They included Lennon tunes as well featuring "Imagine" which the crowd loved and Alan announced "that it had a special meaning for him". One song sounding just like Bob Marley turned out to be a wonderful original written by "the boys" of brass...makes you wiggle ;) Alan introduced another Yes tune "Soon" the night's best...truly showing off the bands skills. It was a mystical haunting magic carpet ride featuring the bassist's softer Rickenbacher the leads amazing slide guitar and highlighting the lead singer's warm tone her soft rich low register and her crazy range! I thoroughlly enjoyed this warm summer's evening living in my youth again if only for a moment...thanks. Folks sorry to be so long winded here but sometimes you find things like Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie that you just have to share! This is my second favorite park closest to my house! Not only does it have a playground for the kids, tennis, and basketball courts, but it's BIG. So much space for kids to run around explore nature. The walking loop that goes around the whole park is great and the dock that goes onto the lake is small but nice. Restrooms are conveniently close to the parking lot. read more

Wow, this park is really nice. I went to a birthday party here. They have hoops, volleyball, tennis, a big playground for the kids. You can also take a stroll down to the lake and go fishing. The grounds are kept really clean. Nice green grass and a mini stage for events. There are a lot of covered picnic areas and all pretty far from each other. I kind of love this place. The party was great. Some people played basketball, while others played volleyball. I brought my rackets so I played a little tennis. Bathrooms were not nasty, although when it got dark, there was no light in there. The only light that was in there was from the skylight so when it got dark, it's just dark. Oh, and I love that dogs are allowed. although you're not supposed to have them off-leash, but some people did it anyway. read more

Great park for families! It's got a playground, tennis courts, basketball courts and a tiny pond. Plenty of grassy area to run around. Covered picnic shelters for great bbq'ing in the spring/summer. Bathrooms here are clean. A lot of people here walk their dogs and thankfully pet owners are mindful when cleaning up after their animals. The setting is a beautiful backdrop of the forest and even for like 20 mins, you feel as if you're away from the city. In winter months, this park isn't crowded but come spring/summer, it can get busy. read more

I went back to the park today and decided to updates my review. My family and I quite enjoyed the experience today. We brought the bikes and scooters. This park has perfect flat path for riding the bikes or scooters. The loop was not too big, so I can watch one kid at playground while another one riding on scooter. The lake was pretty and the kids like the playground. It's much smaller than Bellevue downtown or Grass lawn playground, but still lot of fun for my 8 and 9 years old daughters. They did not like it here when they were younger. The toddler section was quite small here. Now they love it even more than their school 's playground!!! This park also was not very busy which I like. Can't wait to go more often during summer. read more

This is a great, local park. It's clean, modern, and safe. I had my baby shower here in 2018 and it was perfect. The playground is still fairly new. The infant swings are money for us right now. There's plenty of grass to relax in, some walking trails, tennis courts, and basketball courts. The restrooms are also well maintained. There isn't great water access, but it's not a body of water you'd want to swim in. I've seen people fishing on the small dock. read more

Lovely park, my dog loves it here! They have tennis courts, a basketball court, sand volleyball court and a couple covered picnic areas. The lake is small but nice and they put fish in it. The only downside is that a lot of pet owners don't clean up after their dogs! I wish the city would do something to better enforce the law. Nestled in the lush green parts of Renton. This park is nothing short of amazing. With it's spacious green fields and quiet neighborhood feel. It's perfect for your kids and their furry friends. They have everything for those active people that love basket ball, tennis, and even volleyball. This park is fairly new so everything is esentially in pristine conditions. They also have pavilion for those of you who come in big groups so it's perfect for those big family get togethers. Came here for Newcastle Days. It's got a small parking area but the park itself is huge. Lots of open space and some shady spots along the edges for watching the kids play. Tennis courts and some covered shelters too. We really enjoyed this park and the event happening here. Will be back to play soon! read more

Large, spacious park. Picnics are to be had here! There are tennis courts, a basketball court, bbq and picnic table area, a playground for kids, and a little hidden mini dock leading you to an amazing lake view. The lake is gorgeous at sunset. This is a great family friendly park! I love the kids playarea, the large grassy areas, tennis courts, pond and especially the clean restrooms. Lots of space where you can come on a busy Saturday summer afternoon which we recently did this past July and not feel suffocated by the crowds.
