Unfortunately, my current insurance isn't accepted by his practice, so I was forced to look elsewhere. I was a patient at his Chicago office on Foster Avenue for several years, and at a point where I REALLY needed a highly-skilled dentist. All of my ancient fillings were failing over the course of a few short years, and my mouth was a disaster. Since I lived nearby and didn't have a regular dentist (my old one retired), I decided to try my luck. I can honestly say, Dr. Tietzer is one of the friendliest and most easy-going doctors I've ever met. His staff as well, all very friendly and welcoming. While I'm not the nervous type when seeing the dentist, I know many are. If you're that type, I think you'll find everyone there very reassuring, and very gentle. From the outside, his office doesn't really stand out, and it's not the fanciest inside either. But so what? Near as I could tell, ALL of the equipment looked pretty new, and both Dr. Tietzer and his staff seemed to all be up-to-date with their skills. If he takes your insurance, great, but I was a cash customer. His rates were VERY favorable compared to other dentists in the area, so I could actually afford the crowns I needed. It's been quite awhile since I've seen him, but all of the crowns he put in are still holding on tight. Great work, top-notch. If you're in need of dentist I would ABSOLUTELY recommend Dr. Tietzer; you won't be disappointed. P.S.-- I see that this page is for his Des Plaines office, but I visited him at his Chicago office, on Foster near Kimball, in the North Park neighborhood. So, especially convenient for we city-dwellers.

Dr. Tietzer was extremely gentle during the initial exam and really listened to my concerns & fears. During the three root canals I never felt any pain or discomfort and Dr Tietzer always asked how I was doing during the procedure. I have had no problems with the procedures or with the crowns, Dr Tietzer spent a lot of time making sure that the crown fit perfectly and that my bite was comfortable. I would highly recommend him, especially to people who are a bit nervous about dental work. Also Christina in the office is the best! Friendly and always manages to find an appointment that fits in my schedule. Rachel is great! Friendly, efficient and really left my teeth feeling clean without feeling sore. Rachel took the time to explain everything she was doing and why it was important. She also help to correct my flossing technique.

The new dentist has been great, and I especially liked the ultrasonic cleaner she used instead of the scraping hook. It was much more comfortable! I try to take good care of my teeth, but I think I'm also lucky to have "good teeth," so I have minimal dental work. My 76 year old mother, on the other hand, probably doesn't have a single tooth that hasn't had something done to it. She used to have a phobia of dentists, but she is a great admirer of both Dr Miller and Josephine. My whole family goes to this dental office, and have no complaints. As to other reviewers' comments about the prices- dental insurance is only good for cleanings if you ask me. Once you have a dental problem, you're gonna have to pay out of your own pocket too. Maybe set up an HSA.

While Dr. Gilmor appears to be competent, he is slick and when you visit him, he will tell you that you need multiple procedures that apparently your last dentist (mine was excellent but had retired) had somehow missed. Both he and his hygentist will also insist that those procedures need to be done immediately and you will need multiple follow ups. This is the sort of "medical professional" who gives the rest of us a bad name. Stay away.

Every appointment I had to take off of work to be there because there are no appointments after 4:00 and most appointments were extremely long, over 1.5 hrs, with very little regard for explaining what she is doing so I could be informed in the process. The Dr told me the front office could email me the referral for my root canal and when I talked to the office was just told "we don't email here" when I inquired more she said "we don't have the ability to email". I was expected to go by there and pick it up. They rarely answer the phone if you call and the front receptionist is kind 50% of the time. I will never return.

He called me to argue and threaten me (he did not specify but probably meant legal action), so I downgraded my review to 1 star. What doctor/dentist/merchant/professional calls you back to fight and argue about your impression? 1. He asked why I posted my review 9 months after the visit. There is no time limit on reviews, is there? I merely hesitated if I should post it or let it go. 2. He also argued that his useless appliance was almost paid for by insurance and we only paid $150, but he couldn't get it: I was not talking about our price but about his advice that we eventually felt was not in our best interest but his. We felt that he suggested this appliance with his profit in mind (insurance + our portion) above our interests and benefits. And, BTW, he first suggested that our insurance would not pay us and eventually sent a claim after I asked him again. If he merely asked to remove a review, I would not have a problem with that, but threatening us for sharing our feelings is strange and almost unheard of. You want to sue me for our negative impression and feelings? Bring it on, and I suggest to start from the Illinois Dental Board.
