I found out through Dr. Nickel, I had blood infection and bone infection/dead bone in my jaw (due to a failed procedure when I was 15 yrs old to remove a wisdom tooth). That oral surgeon (don't remember his name) neglected to inform my family he left a portion of my tooth in me which became very neurotoxic. Prior to Dr. Nickel, I found out from a dentist, 30 yrs after the failed procedure, the wisdom tooth chip was still in me. So, a 2nd surgery attempt was made to remove the chip, but the tooth wouldn't budge and was on a nerve. The nerves were wrapped around the tooth. Another failed attempt! I actually almost died the next day from the infection being stirred and pushed further in me. I then met Dr. Nickel, who took an x-ray and showed me I had dead bone in my jaw. No dentist ever told me / showed me this on the x-ray. I was nervous for him to perform the surgery, after two failed attempts from past surgeons and almost dying the second time, but he was confident and put me at complete ease. I was also taken aback by his genuine, humble demeanor. He is a very kind-hearted, patient man and is the "go-to oral surgeon" in the area for complex patients. The procedure was a complete success! I had a 3-month, 6-month, and 18-month follow up and everything healed beautifully. There was no nerve damage, and my energy came back, among other things. In September 2023, my daughter had a permanent wire retainer placed on both her top and bottom teeth. However, last Wednesday, while eating lunch, the permanent retainer came off in one piece, and she accidentally swallowed the estimated 1.5-inch wire. Panicked, I immediately called the office to ask if they had ever encountered this situation before. The woman who answered the phone said no--which was not at all reassuring--and put me on hold to consult with the doctors. Their advice was to visit the emergency department for an X-ray. What followed was a stressful and exhausting ordeal: three long nights and four days at Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago as we monitored the wire's movement to ensure it passed safely. Thankfully, the wire eventually moved to a safe zone, and we were able to take her home. What's most shocking and disappointing is that throughout this entire ordeal, no one from Forest Ortho called to check on her or follow up in any way. To add insult to injury, my 16-year-old--still determined to maintain straight teeth--went back this Wednesday to replace the retainer. However, they wanted to charge us $350 for the replacement wire! For something that was supposed to last years, having it come out in less than three is unacceptable and suggests poor placement. I've spoken with multiple people who agree that this situation was handled poorly and could have been avoided. I expected far more from Forest Ortho, both in terms of the quality of care and their responsiveness to a serious issue like this.

So believe me when I say that since I have started coming to Lake Forest Dental, I look forward to my dentist appointments. The couple that owns the business are absolutely amazing and care so much about doing what is right for you and making you comfortable while doing it. I had a tooth break and they made an emergency appointment and allowed me to come in the next day which was a Saturday - even though they were closed all weekend. The front desk staff is so welcoming and kind. The assistants are super friendly and make you feel comfortable while you wait. I honestly could not recommend a better dentist, I will come back here for as long as I possibly can!

I was referred to Dr. Mark Steinberg by another dentist after a root canal procedure was…read moreunsuccessful. Unfortunately, the tooth could not be saved, it had to be extracted. Being that the extracted tooth is the anchor for a bridge, I was left with an area where there were three teeth before. This left me with option of having one implant with a bridge or two implants. After careful evaluation and consultation with the dentist who is making the crowns, the recommendation was to place two implants where there had been three teeth before. The first part of the procedure involved having bone grafts to build up the jawbone. The grafting turned out excellent. Two weeks ago Dr. Steinberg put in the two implants. In both instances, I had minimal discomfort afterwards, very little swelling in the cheek and am now waiting for three months to pass so that I can have the crowns placed. Dr. Steinberg is a excellent oral surgeon. To me, what sets Dr. Steinberg apart is that he has the experience to recommend the best option, he explain things clearly, he has excellent surgical skills and the follow up of him and his staff is one of the best that I have experienced.

Several times she told about the latest and greatest in their newest technological acquisitions. My husband also experienced the heavy handed up selling by the hygienist and no input by the dentist. Since then we have established care with a fabulous husband/wife DDS team in Lake Forest. The clinical care is personalized and in the hands of the doctors. The hygienist is also very knowledgeable and thorough with no up-selling procedures and bragging comments about the latest acquisitions in state of the art equipment. If you prefer personal and professional dental care with a doctor at the helm and less up sell I would not recommend this practice.
