My 82-year-old mother was charged significantly above what is Usual, Customary, and Reasonable (UCR) for two simple fillings, coded D2330 and D2332. She was charged $263 for a 1-surface filling of one tooth (D2330) and $385 for a 3-surface filling of another tooth (D2332), totaling $648 for about 30 minutes of work. When I spoke to the front desk clerk regarding these excessive charges, she tried to tell me they charge less than UCR. Not true! They purposefully do not contract with ANY dental insurance plans, so a patient is left to pay whatever absurd excess they want to charge above the UCR set by dental insurance plans. While the clinical work was fine, the price gouging is undeniable. I have had a few dental fillings myself, and fees paid by insurance plus my copay was never remotely close to what this office charges! When I mentioned that my initial search for reasonable market costs for D2330 and D2332 in zip code 60031 was using AI, the clerk literally laughed into the phone, despite that AI provided legit references for its data. She pointed me instead to fairconsumerhealth dot org for pricing. For zip code 60031, "average allowed amount" at the 80th %ile even for D2330 is $176 and for D2332 is $253, a fraction of what this office charges! For an even more stark comparison, consider that as of 2025, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services allowed $52.18 and $92.19, respectively, for these same services. I highly recommend looking elsewhere for a practice that values fair pricing. Neumann and Mackey focus on running a profit-driven business, not a patient-centered dental practice. Good chairside manner does not justify price gouging, especially little old ladies on fixed incomes.

Dr. Jay Rodgers is the owner, and he has a team of nice and skillful hygienists and technicians. I have been happy with my hygienist Hallie, who's very kind, skillful, and accommodating. She has excellent memories of what I like and don't like, making each appointment pleasant and successful. I have been waiting for some dental work to be done by Dr. Rodgers before I write a review. Now is the time! I used to think that Dr. Rodgers was a person of no-nonsense. Every time he would quickly check my teeth, recommended what needs to be done, and then hurried into another patient's room. However, I found out from the recent experience that he is actually very kind and compassionate, and is also very respectful of my choices. The dental work was pretty "complicated", which involved removal of an old crown that was done by another dental practice years ago, but it was not done right back then, and he detected decay developed inside. He would then install two new crowns, one to the adjacent tooth that was prepared by another practice a long time ago. There was an old filling to be replaced as well. I called Dr. Rodgers' office with questions, one of his receptionists, Dianka, is always very nice and helpful, she had Dr. Rodgers call me back after his appointments. He called me back and spent 15 minutes patiently answering all my questions and explaining everything that needed to be done. I was impressed. The dental work involved 3 appointments, with the second appointment being the main one and was the longest, like 2 to 3 hours long, with breaks. Dr. Rodger's assistant, Erika, was very kind and professional too. Dr, Rodger was(is) very skillful, professional, and kind, and actually checked on me several times to make sure that I was doing fine and comfortable. His chair-side manners were just excellent. Although dental work is no fun to be sure, I didn't feel any pain or discomfort. I could even eat an hour later! The most important thing is, the crowns look so good and natural that even my husband and daughter could not tell which ones were crowns. They both guessed the canine. No, that was wrong. I am so happy with the results! I will not hesitate to see Dr. Rodgers and his team for future dental work. Next time, I will not be losing any sleep before the appointments, as I know that I am in good hands!

I always felt at ease at this practice. Dr. Rodgers is the only dentist there and he is the owner. He has a great team of hygienists, who are all very friendly and professional. My hygienist is always very prompt, thorough, and makes sure that I leave the clinic with a shiny smile. Whenever Dr. Rodgers checked on my teeth, he has been very professional and informative. I felt fortunate every time he (and my previous dentists) marveled at me still having all 32 teeth without any cavities. About a year ago, I accidentally bit very hard on a bone and one of my lower front teeth became loose, which I could wiggle it with my fingers. I thought the tooth would come off and I went to see Dr. Rodgers on an emergency basis. Surprisingly, he told me not to worry about it after checking on the tooth. He is right - a year later, my tooth still sits tightly in its socket and is now back to normal. I like the overall experience at Northbrook Dental Care, and highly recommend it.

I inspected the crown and it didn't look damaged. (Props to my former work friend's husband. Not a former friend, just a friend who is now retired. Anyway, her husband created the crown). Luckily, they were able to cement the crown back on, and I just have to lay off the hot bevs, crispy crunchies, and sticky caramels for 24 hours. And then, and then -- I'm going to guzzle hot java, eat crunchy toffee and carrots and ice cubes. JK, JK. See y'all in a few months.

My experience was top notch! Jory (sp?) deserves a 10-star rating for being thorough and gentle. I think she might be new. To be completely honest, I figured I was doomed. I convinced myself that I'd get reprimanded for not making teeth and gums my top priority. Let's face it, when you're stuck at home or wearing a mask all the time in public, flossing and brushing sometimes take a back seat. Surprisingly, I got a thumbs up for doing a pretty good job with barely any plaque buildup - woot! Good gums...check! In my prior review for my kids, I shared the safety precautions being taken. Masks, temperature checks, spaced seating in the waiting area, and tons of hand sanitizer everywhere. Behind the doors (something I didn't see with my kids), they took my purse and placed it in a bin and ran a UV light over it to zap any germs before I could take it into the cleaning area. The cleaning process. Mouthwash provided in a cup, swish and spit back in the cup (no sink). Jory provided me with goggles. Jory wiped down the heavy x-ray blanket after use and wiped down items that would be used for the next patient. My cleaning was incredibly thorough, especially that bottom middle tough area. The biggest bummer is that they aren't polishing teeth right now due to the fact it emits a spray into the air. Sadly my teeth might not be sparkly clean polished white, but I appreciated the safety measures being taken.

So with that raising issues I had to see another dentist (actually 2 different highly qualified dentists) who both found that I did not have any pockets Dr. Landau saw. If he said both sides needed scaling and emphasized how bad they were.. then why was the other side he didn't do yet perfect without any signs of pockets? I refused to pay him for the half of the procedure he performed and he actually seemed ok with that -never perused me or sent a bill. That alone shows he admitted wrongdoing as he knew he couldn't argue or pursue this. I just hope patients can do their research to see the many dissatisfied patient reviews online. There have been many others just like myself that I wish I saw before I started with him. However I have notices that he seems to get many of these bad reviews removed from here. Also beware when you see a ton of rave reviews for doctors on who have bad reviews as they are putting up these bogus good reviews to balance out the bad ones. Keep in mind that there are usually few to no reviews for most doctors, even the good ones. People know who the well established top doctors are w/o Yelp. But don't be duped and fall for doctors on these review sites who have their friends and family post lots of good ratings to offset the bad ones. Just beware that this dentist is mostly motivated by money and not your best interest!
