There's a nice lake with a marsh and lots of ducks and geese swimming and walking around throughout the park. The day we visited, there was a farmers market, which was a pleasant surprise. Love to shop local and sport small businesses. I was informed that the farmers market frequently sets up at the park, but I don't know the schedule so hopefully when you visit you'll get lucky and be able to support an entrepreneur and snacks and great items.

Make sure and select your type of boat rental. You can rent a kayak as well. So many things to do here on the water. I paid, we completed the requested documents and drove out the Thursday before Fathers Day. The store rep was friendly. The boat was decent. The attendant was perky at 9 AM and knows. Hubby enjoyed and so did we. The water was perfect, not busy at 9AM. We shared some breakfast items but toured the beautiful scenery of homes around the lake. We stayed in the higher water levels, brought our trash and no issues. Check-out was as easy as check-in. Thanks so much

Reservable campsites on cooler Mount Charleston were already taken, so we decided to go to explore Lake Mead. The campground was just minutes from Las Vegas and Henderson. The campground sites offered large sites with paved parking, picnic tables, fire pits, and close proximity to well-maintained and clean restrooms (flush toilets, sinks, running water. No showers). We were dry camping in a Class B RV -- so no hookups -- but the campground had plentiful water spigots and lots of sun to charge our solar panels. There was a mix of campers - from those tent camping to others in large RVs. What was particularly nice was that there was some vegetation -- trees which provided some shade and flowering desert bushes. Our site also had a lovely view of the lake, which was about a 20-minute walk from the campground. (We did not walk down to the beach but others reported that it's rocky). There's a Visitor's Center for the recreation area just a few miles down the street. We spoke with the knowledgable and friendly park rangers, watched a park film, picked up some literature, and bought a few souvenirs.

People eat a lot of great foods visiting Las Vegas. I think walking around away from The Strip helps. Las Vegas does have plenty of local parks and playgrounds that tourists rarely check out. Not huge, but there's three parts of the lakes to it when driving on W Breakwater Drive in the middle. Plenty of off street parking. I usually park by the second or middle lake and then walk around from one end to another. To be exact, there are four lakes with public access: Lake Sarah, Lake Jacqueline, Lake Maddison, and Lake Lindsay. I heard there's Lake Sahara too, but that's only for residential access. Feels safe and clean. Not much to see other than houses, ducks, and birds. Very relaxing. The bike lanes were wide enough for bikes as well as people to walk on if there are no sidewalks in some of the spots. Surprisingly, there are a few nice restaurants in the middle part/section where you'll see lots of two story office buildings in a plaza. Good spots for photography and there are security guards onsite riding around in some areas too. Not many people come here unless they know residents in the area. Lakes are not gated, which makes walking a great option all around here. Definitely check it out even as a tourist. Maybe you can capture a few great photos on a good day too. It's beautiful out there if you really take the time to walk around and take a look. Nice neighborhood. Quiet and calm. Retail shops not far out onto the major streets.

The added bonus was our river guide, Ian! He was incredibly knowledgeable about the history and flora/fauna of the region. And such a great conversationalist. Our first stop was emerald cove, which is much smaller than I was anticipating, but still just as beautiful as the photos! On our way back, we detoured at a small rock beach, for a small hike up to a viewpoint where we admired the river from above. The high was 118 so the cool river water was the perfect way to cool off. Overall- highly recommend this experience for anyone who is looking for a unique Vegas adventure!

I found that this place is less crowded compared to all the other parks and outdoor scenic areas that we've been visiting.. definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a peaceful escape away from the city. Also, while you're here don't forget to check out the little gift shop which offers a variety of sweet treats, such as chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate covered marshmallows, and so much more, which are all delicious.

The huge, grassy field is perfect for picnics, and the restrooms are very clean. It's also pet-friendly, with leashed dogs welcome on the trails. There are several different hiking options, from easy to moderate, with beautiful views. Don't miss the historic ranch house, once owned by Howard Hughes, which is open for tours and has a small gift shop. Very peaceful and tranquil for a lovely afternoon visit.
