The state removed the Pahrump poolfish because there was a fish that was not native to the area that had been put in the lake. They then drained the lake and it has been dry for almost three years. The ranger told us yesterday that they hope to refill the lake by the end of 2019. One note for the future hiking around Lake Harriet. The trail on the east side of the trail is closed for restoration. The ranger told us yesterday that it was permanently closed and there would be no loop hike around the lake. As a bit of history, Chet Lauck of the radio show Lum and Abner, who owned Spring Mountain Ranch for a number of years, had the old reservoir moved to the top of the hill and named it after his wife Harriet. The lake is fed by a well that puts much water into the lake. It's a short hike to the top of the hill to see the lake from the parking lot. Just wait until next year if you want to see it with some water.

I'm a local here, This is my favorite place to come and detox. The view from your window is nature all around you. All this because we live in the desert, this is our "oasis." We don't have water here. We don't have nature in its truest form . The created bliss of Lake Las Vegas is something to see and experience. You need to stay here to truly appreciate and love what is happening here . You have your choice of a few places to stay for the evening. There is a Westin Resort and Hilton Hotel. I prefer the Westin mainly for the views and the quality of the resort style stay. You might think that a room at the Westin would be "resort," pricing . Not so ! They need to fill rooms. Our room, a lake view king suite was around $100, plus the resort fee. The Hilton is priced a bit lower. You decide what your best options are . Just know that you have options! It's all in what you are seeking to do. Come and play then stay a while and see what happens. Make sure and let yourself get back to normal and enjoy some rest. Life is busy sometimes and this is a great way to down time and recharge.

I…read morehave driven through the Lakes when I've taken out of town freinds to see water in the desert which always impresses them. I first went to park at the Lake Sahara South Park, but the area is shut with a gate. I drove around and parked at the tennis courts area which appeared to be closed. I started walking west on the sidewalk to Crystal Water Way. I realized there that the fitness trail crosses to the west side of the street where there is a sidewalk. I walked along here for a while until I saw the first chance to get a glimpse of the lake. I crossed Crystal Water and stepped over a low wall to a fence where I got a good view of one of the side inlets of the lake. Along the section I walked on the sidewalk, there are a number of exercise machines and some benches to rest and enjoy the pleasant weather--which wasn't yesterday--it was quite windy and there were some sprinkles. Once I had crossed the street, I walked along the curb. The nice thing about the community is the streets are only two lanes when they could be four. This allows for a bicycle path on each side of the street and parking areas between the bike path and the curb. This is where I did the rest of the walk and where most people were walking. When you get to the roundabout, this is where you turn--the direction depending on doing the loop clockwise or counter-clockwise. In a short distance after the roundabout, I came to the Lake Sahara South Park. It had been open for parking, but the gate was closed and locked. You can walk in the park and get a good view of the main section of Lake Sahara. From here, it was just a process of finishing the 2 mile loop. I did take a detour in the small area where I've eaten in three of the restaurants. A note about parking--I'm not sure how much is allowed along the streets. I parked at the tennis courts. They appeared closed and the spaces were empty except for mine. Across Lake East Drive from the tennis court is a large parking area that is not being used. It was the home of a credit card processing center and it closed years ago and there are many dozens of places to park although it's private property. Do not park in the small retail area. parking is at a premium and is unfair to the businesses. This is a pleasant loop with an elevation change of about 40 feet so it's basically flat. Enjoy!

Very nice improvements have taken place since my last visit. Parking was adequate at the entrance…read morewhen we visited. Peas for the ducks are available to purchase at the check-in. Snacks for the goats available as well. Admission prices are listed at the check in. A newsletter pamplet was provided and the attendant explained where it was acceptable to feed animals, as well as where it was not. The pens are marked with signs too. The misting cool down area for people was okay, but most of the misting heads were clogged. Mature trees and the pond area was very pretty and the trees provided much appreciated shade from the summer sun. Picnic area and covered benches are available. Trash cans provided around the facility. The public restroom facility was okay, but I wish the restroom would have been cleaner. I kept my eyes open for crawling critters. A baby changing table was available. It's a nice facility to visit. I think children and animal lovers should enjoy visiting this place. Be mindful of the 'this animal bites' warning signs on specific pens. The goats that are 'acceptable to feed' had good manners. I'll keep an eye out for special events here during cooler seasons. Overall it was an enjoyable experience and I appreciate the work they are doing to help animals in need.

The largest one is about .54 miles for one loop. Alongside the track they have workout stations to stretch, work on upper body, etc. there is even a workout area in the front of the park near the restrooms. Water fountain and water bottle refill stations available. Park opens at 7A and closes at 11PM. The Bonanza trail is accessible at this park as well. Limited parking.

May, 2024. This is a campground managed by BLM in the unique Mojave Desert environment. It features…read morestandard, RV, and group campsites in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Just 3 miles from the Red Rock Scenic Drive & Visitor Center and about 20 miles, and a world away, from the Las Vegas strip. The conservation area features hiking, rock climbing, bike riding, horseback riding. and scenic driving (reservations required October 1-May 31, 8 am-5 pm). Be mindful of the weather. Temperatures are scorching in the summer, and the campground closes seasonally during the hottest months (June 1-August 31). All standard sites include picnic tables, grills, and fire pits. (Some, but not all, picnic tables are covered -- a welcome sight on a HOT day). There are common vault toilets, trash cans, and drinking water (but no facilities to fill water tanks or to dispose of RV waste). All sites are nonelectric. The views within the campground are of a unique and pretty desert landscape, but they are not as spectacular as the scenic drive area just a few miles away. Temperatures were hot but bearable during the day and cooled nicely at night. The price was reasonable for a standard nonelectric site. $25 camping use fee, minus $12.50 discount for senior NPS pass, plus $8 online reservation fee = $20.50 for one night. Only two small quibbles to mention. (1) The signage within the campground could be improved. We had site 42 and drove around a few times before finding it. (2) There were quite a few restrooms with vault toilets. Each building had two separate rooms with toilets -- BUT the campground locked one side on two of the restrooms that we tried so only one toilet was functional. This created a queue in the morning. We would stay here again.

You're better off just driving another 15 miles and parking in blm areas. Or just pull up and don't pay. I stayed there a few days without paying and no one questioned it once, I did this as no one else was paying. Also I would rather just did a hole to poop in then use their toilets
