There's a nice lake with a marsh and lots of ducks and geese swimming and walking around throughout the park. The day we visited, there was a farmers market, which was a pleasant surprise. Love to shop local and sport small businesses. I was informed that the farmers market frequently sets up at the park, but I don't know the schedule so hopefully when you visit you'll get lucky and be able to support an entrepreneur and snacks and great items.

I paid, we completed the requested documents and drove out the Thursday before Fathers Day. The store rep was friendly. The boat was decent. The attendant was perky at 9 AM and knows. Hubby enjoyed and so did we. The water was perfect, not busy at 9AM. We shared some breakfast items but toured the beautiful scenery of homes around the lake. We stayed in the higher water levels, brought our trash and no issues. Check-out was as easy as check-in. Thanks so much

I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the Boulder Beach Campground. We were looking…read moreto escape the already hot temperatures of Las Vegas on a Friday night in early May, 2024. Reservable campsites on cooler Mount Charleston were already taken, so we decided to go to explore Lake Mead. The campground was just minutes from Las Vegas and Henderson. The campground sites offered large sites with paved parking, picnic tables, fire pits, and close proximity to well-maintained and clean restrooms (flush toilets, sinks, running water. No showers). We were dry camping in a Class B RV -- so no hookups -- but the campground had plentiful water spigots and lots of sun to charge our solar panels. There was a mix of campers - from those tent camping to others in large RVs. What was particularly nice was that there was some vegetation -- trees which provided some shade and flowering desert bushes. Our site also had a lovely view of the lake, which was about a 20-minute walk from the campground. (We did not walk down to the beach but others reported that it's rocky). There's a Visitor's Center for the recreation area just a few miles down the street. We spoke with the knowledgable and friendly park rangers, watched a park film, picked up some literature, and bought a few souvenirs.

I have hiked around Lake Harriet on my way to Sandstone Canyon and the trail leading behind the…read morelake. The lake is now dry, having been drained to save a small native fish. The state removed the Pahrump poolfish because there was a fish that was not native to the area that had been put in the lake. They then drained the lake and it has been dry for almost three years. The ranger told us yesterday that they hope to refill the lake by the end of 2019. One note for the future hiking around Lake Harriet. The trail on the east side of the trail is closed for restoration. The ranger told us yesterday that it was permanently closed and there would be no loop hike around the lake. As a bit of history, Chet Lauck of the radio show Lum and Abner, who owned Spring Mountain Ranch for a number of years, had the old reservoir moved to the top of the hill and named it after his wife Harriet. The lake is fed by a well that puts much water into the lake. It's a short hike to the top of the hill to see the lake from the parking lot. Just wait until next year if you want to see it with some water.

Ian and another guide were paddling down the river between Emerald Cave and Willow Beach when they…read morespotted my niece and I sitting on our paddle boards around 3pm with nearly 30 mph winds keeping us slammed against the shore. We were on the edge of serious trouble. Exhausted, trying to paddle under inflated boards back to the marina. They asked us if we were ok. After hearing "no, not really", they hooked up tow ropes to our boards and paddled us back to the marina. I can't adequately write what I feel here. The kindness, care and efficiency in taking care of us absolutely blew my mind. Especially when we weren't paying customers! They wouldn't even accept money for the rescue. Thank you Kayak Lake Mead.
