Such a good found discovery! This lake was hinted to me by fellowette ladybug Christie L. Really appreciate the tip! Now a place to take mental escapes that isn't too far a drive. Lake Jacqueline is not alone however. Her co-parts are Lake Lindsey to her right, if you're staring down on a map; and Lake Sarah opposite Lake Maddison on the left. I drove around to check out the area. Beautiful neighborhood. Animal friendly. Quiet, peaceful, serene, with gated communities lined by palm trees. I love palm trees! I saw a bunch of senior citizen men bonding, sailing remote controlled mini sailboats for Sunday part-time. How cool :) Happy I can take part and be still in the nature scapes. The ducks are so used to people too. But don't feed them; they'll get sick. Aaaand watch your step - duck bird poopies. The views these residents here get are "a-maaaaz-zuh-zuh-zing!" read more

Lake Jacqueline with its charming swans, playful geese, Disneyesque ducks, and laid back turtles brings residents from the corners of the Las Vegas Valley to this ethereal finger lake of the northwest Valley community of Desert Shores. I am one of them. Lake Jacqueline is one of the ethereal places I visit to nourish my spirit. I enjoy my secret bench where I can release the negativity of the world. Sitting on the bench overlooking Lake Jacqueline is a front row show to nature's performance of the sun setting or rising over the magnificent Red Rock mountains. Deep in the night it is a front row seat to the moon and stars glowing over a serene lake. In daylight it is the front row seat to the charming swans, playful geese, Disneyesque ducks, laid back turtles with the occasional model sailboats and non-motorized watercraft. The peculiar thing about this ethereal Lake is that in my estimate the public only has twenty percent access to the shoreline. Bordering the lake from its south-eastern shoreline at Regatta and Mariner to its northwestern shoreline at Desert Shoals are luxury homes. The developers of Desert Shores created breathtaking areas for the public to enjoy the lake. They are picture postcard scenic spots. From the extreme most southeastern and northwestern shorelines the public can stop, listen, and corroborate. My secret bench is somewhere in these spots. Without fail ducks and waterfowl entertain people from these picture postcard spots. Spanning the center of Lake Jacqueline the Breakwater bridge is a prime viewing spot. Lake Jacqueline is a place I visit to likewise nourish my physical health. The Desert Shore roadways circumventing the vicinity of Lake Jacqueline and sister finger lakes is a suitable track for jogging, running, and yes hiking. I enjoy my walks around the lake, especially when I burn off calories. Lake Jacqueline is a place that is worthy of review 600. I couldn't wait ten more reviews to put it on the Yelp map. A lake? In the middle of a residential area of Las Vegas? Yup! In addition to being a picturesque oasis, it's full of ducks, geese, and even some black swans that are quite friendly. If hangin' with wildlife isn't your thing, go for a run along the trail encircling the lake. They allow boating and fishing here as well, but I don't even pretend to know the rules. Great lake area with nearby housing (few apartments/condos) and a village of little shops and restaurants just around the corner- Isabela's, Marche Bacchus, and Republic, just to name a few. The area always manages to look green and well-maintained, and I've frequently seen photographers staging outdoor photoshoots on the banks. Convenient parallel parking allows you to get out right where you want to and start your run, walk, jog, or conga line. NOTE: This is a private home owner association property, not a public park. If you visit, be respectful and clean up after yourself. Don't be that guy. read more

What a beautiful little piece of paradise! Nestled in the middle of the northwest part of Las Vegas, you will find the community of Desert Shores! With some beautiful lakes surrounded by homes, parks, and greenery, this is a great place to go fishing (catch and release only,) watch the animals and fish, or take your boat out for a leisurely sail. My favorite part of the afternoon was seeing all of the turtles! Many were swimming, some were sunning, and all were adorable! read more

Lake Jacqueline (LJ) has served many purposes for me over the nearly dozen years I lived in Las Vegas, and still does when I visit. Desert Shores has several man made lakes, but Jacqueline is the best. If you lap LJ twice, you will have clocked a 5K on your pedometer/FitBit/insert your gadget here. You will see many people walking with and without human or fur babies, runners, bikers, people fishing, and residents (only) using non-motorized boats. The big draw for me is the solitude: aside from a small strip mall containing Marche Bacchus, Village Pub, and other businesses, the whole neighborhood is residential. You feel light years away from the strip mall 'bonanza' that is the Las Vegas burbs. There's also a private beach club, The Lagoon, again only for residents. Daniel mentions the Disney ducks in his review: he is right! The ducks and swans are quite animated, friendly, and vocal, even at night. We saw black swans using the crosswalk as we pulled up the other day :) Turtles in the lake can frequently be seen swimming or basking in the sun on the rocks along the shore, along with a wide variety of migratory birds. When strolling at various points there are signs to identify some of the species you are seeing, and frequent reminders not to feed the ducks. There's benches scattered around to relax, take in the scenery, read, whatever's clever. It is not advisable to sit on the grass because it is heavily fertilized with bird poop! Poop aside, this will forever be one of my favorite places to get away, at any time of day or night; the views vary, and it is just a relaxing place to be. Around this time of year (Thanksgiving is in a few weeks) my home can become full of people. One year it was quite nice here in Las Vegas, I'd say somewhere in the mid-eighties. My family lives just North of Lake Jacqueline. One year I surprised my two daughters and took them to Lake Jacqueline. The kids had a blast just walking along taking in the views and enjoying all the company of the birds. One person, who I believe lived in the area, was jogging along and in a "matter of fact" like tone reminded my daughters and I to not feed the birds unless it was birdseed only. I wanted to tell this jogger to "quack off" but for the sake of my daughters, I didn't. A few years later, both of my kids had a girl scout meeting canceled. On the way home we spent a good hour or more at Lake Jacqueline. It was dark, but the birds were there. Nothing like having a conversation with a goose or mallard. Q: How are you? A: Honk! Best community ever in Las Vegas area. Wish there's more stuff to do for the community's entertainment but it's still the best nonetheless.

Only very small parts of the shoreline are accessible to the public, no sidewalk for walking around the lake. Docks available, but use of the water for recreation (kayak, canoe, etc) is exculsive to DSCA. Must have a decal on your water craft. No feeding the animals. read more
