Lake jenning has always been my go to for camping. Clean restroom with shower and it free. Fishing is great. Tho i do wish we can fish as long as we like while were there but of course it isnt the case. But no biggie staff and ranger are cool and its just a great environment.. they also have ice and smore on hand for purchase in case u forgot and there a walmart and exit away. Ill be continuing to choose lake jenning as my go to spot for camping when i want to keep it local..

Pull thru site #94, 91 thru 94 had this awesome view

Just purchased our new to us class b motorhome and wanted to do a trial run at a local campground. We chose lake jennings campgrounds. Booked weeks in advance for three nights. Boy are we happy we went local. First off i had no levelers so van was at an angle our spot we chose was for the view not thinking about if it had a pad or level. Second was it was 90 deg. all three days. Third had trouble with black tank so we came home the 2nd day. We were slightly disappointed but this is exactly what a trial run is for. Now about the campgrounds. It's frickin beautiful there. The view over the lake is amazing and at night you can overlook west and see all the lights of the city. Our spot was very cool, trees blocked the next campsite so you felt alone. The bathrooms were very clean as were the free showers. The park was well kept and the two people at the entrance were friendly and helpful. As soon as we work out the kinks we will be back.

    Beautiful view from campsite 92

We camped at Lake Jennings we stayed three nights at site #92 The views of the sunrise and sunsets were amazing. Our campsite was very clean and restrooms were clean and fully stocked with toilet paper, seat covers and paper towels. The shower drainage was slow.We really enjoyed our time at Lake Jennings we will visit again.

I went camping this past weekend and booked site 43 online back in March. The process was easy for online booking and you can pay on the spot. You can also risk booking in person but I don't think there would be many spots available versus the spots you can reserve online in advanced. I also bought some wood for the fire ring online, they deliver to your site after three pm. They handed out map for the site which is useful since it was my first time there. The campground had bathrooms, free shower and dump station. For after hours, you can call for the passcode to gain entry. When you enter, the gate opens toward you and when you exit, the gate opens the opposite way. It is free range to exit. They provide WiFi password, I tried to connect to it but it was not successful although I had strong signal (Verizon). My family did not have great phone signal (metro/t mobile) from where we were. They also provide landline numbers for business and after hours if you had any questions. My site was spacious, it had trees for shade and a dumpster near by. Each site has a water spout for cleaning etc. The downfall of my area was the cactus. We were surround by them, so we had to be extra careful not to go close to it. Sometimes we would feel the prickly feeling from the loose spikes around the dirt etc. We had a fire ring and one picnic table. Other than that, the site view was amazing and very close to the fishing area. I saw security/ranger a few times throughout the day, it's very nice to feel safe. There are fishing piers on the fishing day use side. You can rent paddle boats, motor boats, canoe/kayak or bring your own boat! You would just have to check in, Pay the fees and sign a waiver. I rented out a paddle boat for two hours and whew! It was a great exercise. You can also buy day fishing pass from the campground or day use side, you must have a fishing license in order to fish on their site. I caught a lot of bluegills, catfish and trout. I will return in the future, it was very easy to access the site and only 30 minutes from San Diego off the 8 East.

We camped April 12-14, 2024. We were pleasantly surprised at how quiet and well kept the campground is. There is some traffic noise from the nearby road, and there is a fire station nearby, so we heard sirens a few times. Overall, for a campground near the big city, it was acceptable. The only slightly negative is that the shrubbery on the "lake view" side of the campsite blocked a large part of the view. (site 95) Access for travel trailer: good. Restrooms: very clean and stocked with soap and TP. Campground employees: very helpful and polite. Water and Power: good. Dump Station: clean and accessible.

Nearly all camp spots are minutes from the lake.

What a great Camping spot in east county. We were blown away at this secluded lake gated camp & RV oasis. Very well maintained and affordable. We found a great Mexican restaurant just a few minutes outside the park. highly rated on Yelp and Google. Located just down the hill on lake Jennings Rd. Fishing at the lake is very popular as well. 5 star experience.

A friend gifted our friend this sign. So us, lol.

What a beautiful campground. Although I didn't have the chance to drive the entire campground, the area that I camped out was great. The first campsite that I had was a small site but I did like the fact that it was a pull thru which was great for my suv and small teardrop trailer. I had friends that were tenting stay on my site as well. Each site has there own picnic table and fire ring. Our site had shrubs but nothing for shade. Each site had their own water spigot. The first couple of nights we were on the side where the view was of the city. The view on this side, the city lights during the evening is beautiful. How could I forget to mention the sunset views on the same side? GORGEOUS SUNSETS! The restrooms are decent, and showers could get busy. Expect a line during busy season. As I walked the campsite I found a perfect spot on the lakeside, with a great view. So I had my husband reserve that spot for me on the lakeside. I loved the view. The flies were a big issue. Having the dumpster near by might have been the culprit. The campsites that we had are on a hill. Walking to the restrooms may be a challenge for some. We were told there were bathrooms at the bottom, but we did not visit that site. They do have firewood available at the check - in station. I really liked the fact that the campground rangers were constantly driving by checking that everyone was abiding by the rules. I look forward to coming back here!

Ask the Community - Lake Jennings

Can I rent a boat online?

No. It is first come first serve for the boats

When a site is listed at so many ft combined vehicle length, does that mean a travel tailer of 20 ft plus a tow vehicle od 20 ft cannot fit in a 38ft max length site or can you fit if you unhook the tow vehicle?

The sites are listed for the size of camping unit, not counting the tow vehicle. You can typically fit one or two additional vehicles on the campsite as well. Feel free to give us a call at 619-390-1623 to book if you wish and we can go through what…

Are there supermarkets close by the campsites?

Yes. We are very close to a Wal-Mart, Smart and Final, Dollar Tree, 7-11 and lots of restaurants too! The grocery stores are just one exit away on the freeway--probably about 2 miles away!

Hello, for the super size campsite, it states max of 12 people. Is that 12 adults? What about kids or if you have more than 12 people?

It is 12 people total, including children. If you have more than 12 people--we would recommend booking additional adjacent campsites. Sites 85-91 are all very close to the Super Site.

Can I bring my dog along?

Yes you can, however the lake is a water reservoir for the local cities. No contact with the water and dogs are required to be on a leash. One wouldn't want their dog running away chasing after wild life would they?

Is there a power outlet for the tipis? Also is the entire floor of the tipi covered with tarp?

The tipis do not have power but the floor is covered with a vinyl floor covering. Thanks!

Is there a place to swim?

We do not have an area to swim, it is a drinking water reservoir that does not permit body contact at all. We do not have a pool but there are some local pools not too far away that offer drop in swimming.

I have my own little boat no motor or anything just trying to be out in the water, is this allowed? And also can dogs be in the boat and just don't get in the water?

Yes! As long as your boat fits our regulations, it is permitted. Your pup cannot go out on the water with you though, they will have to stay home. If you want to check and see if your boat fits our regulations, please give us a call at 619-390-1623.…

Hi will you be open Christmas Day for fishing?

Dale, the lake is closed Christmas Day for fishing but we will be open the 26th and 27th from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Has the power been shut off because of winds at this campground in 2020?

No, we have not experienced a public safety power shut off at Lake Jennings in 2020.

Can we bike or walk down to the lake from the campsites easily?

It is about 75-100 yards down to the shoreline from the campground. It is a bit of a hill on the way back up but you can walk, bike or drive down to Sentry Point to get access to the shoreline below the campground.

Does anyone know of a campground that is still open during covid?

The Lake Jennings campground, and most of the other SD County campgrounds are now partially open with various rules for keeping social distancing intact. We camped last weekend and it was great!

    Are the tipis rain proof?

They are built to handle the rain. We haven't had issues with them standing up to our normal amount of rain we have received since installation. There is a possibility if there was excessive rain, it could become an issue. If it did, we would work…

The owner, Evonne, definitely promised a lot as mentioned in the other review by Chris (it's hidden so please go look at hers and others that are there). I was sold just like Chris and other parents in that she told us on how amazing and talented Julia was, after all she was phenomenal Grand Prix Jumper who competed in Europe and all. In Evonne's words, "she's the real deal." I was hooked and my daughter trained with Julia learning to walk and trot, how to tack up, technique of holding reins, etc. Well, that all ended abruptly when we found out Julia was fired. Julia was never truly hired for lessons, and Julia was given SO many! Julia had agreed to do lessons for us and some other kiddos who were further along now, but not for a pony lead line lesson (she's way too valuable and experienced for that). The other young gal trainers should only have been given those, and we all knew it. Sadly, I watched surprise lessons pop up here and there, no warning for Julia and double booked for all the trainers. And these poor horses! We watched so many horses turn lame because the lesson horses went out multiple times a day from Tues through Saturday (they don't have nearly enough rideable horses to have a great lesson program). We loved those horses, and will definitely miss them. But there was no way we could stay at this facility once trainer Julia was let-go. Safety is the number one concern as a parent, and as we finished out our final lessons, we knew and saw that safety concerns were not a high priority anymore and my daughter would not advance as a rider (we never saw anyone jumping or even jumping equipment like cross rails or poles for 7 months). It was a HUGE mistake to let Julia go. This place could have achieved a great riding program with her.
