I heard about Lindo Lake San Diego County Park for the first time on ABC-10 News, and had to check it out. Lindo Lake is the only natural lake in the San Diego County. It has two basins, East and West. The East Basin has been restored, and it is very nice. The park itself provides a range of facilities and opportunities, including picnic areas, skate park, playground, ball field, and tennis courts. There are also a butterfly garden and multi-use trails. Bird watching is popular, and fishing in the lake is allowed. I would say there is something here for everyone. read more

A lovely little park with 2 entrances! One by the VFW building and one in front of the Garden Farms Market! They just installed EV charging in the parking lot in front of the market too so that's pretty cool. The park has a skate park and tennis courts and lots of space to lounge / sit. There's 2 different playgrounds by each of the entrances. I've seen park rangers patrol pretty often here so I feel safe which is super important to me. read more

When in town, I wanted to get out and take a walk. A family friend of mine brought me to Lindo Lake County Park, which was one of the only parks open at the time (early COVID). We started walking through the park when I noticed these little white birds that looked like cranes making the craziest calls to one another. I could only imagine what they were talking about, but it kept us laughing. We took a few laps around the bodies of water and the park, while I was admiring the birds and we were able to get some exercise while observing a social distance from others. This is a really pretty park, very clean and well maintained. read more

I absolutely love it here. Clean park and great place to take pictures and view the wildlife, take a jog or a walk with yours dogs. I do think you should be careful here at night or in early mornings though. My mother and quite a few others here have experienced a man masturbating in the parking lot here. For that reason, it isn't the safest of places to walk alone especially as a young women. read more

When Im in town I LOOOVE this Park!! This park has a variety of wildlife to watch and feed. The park has so many Awesome features my favorite being the Bbq Grills which are Top of the line and Perfect for having a Outside date! This park went so downhill :( My grandma grew up taking everyone to this park...she used to take all of her kids, then my mom would take us and birthday party were held here and get togethers...sigh...that was like 30-40 years ago. Now a- days, not sure if its because the construction or just with the times, but the park just feels so unsafe. I had to keep my guard up at all times. Just odd people that come here and I just did not feel comfortable, sadly. We left. however, the park itself, it is pretty, it is a decent size, the lake is nice and I love the gazebo or covered area, its a pretty place for a photo moment! I love that for them. Overall, too far for me, but if you are in east county...I would say just do Santee Lakes unless you don't care. I just couldn't. Felt "unsafe", I am sorry. read more

I used to come here everyday and push the stroller with my baby girl around the circumference of Lindo Lake. Afterwards we would feed the ducks, geese and various water fowl. The birds would encircle the stroller but never one of them tried to peck or hurt my daughter. On the contrary, they seemed very aware and curious about this tiny person. Today the lake has some new additions; the skate board area and athletic area. The children's play area has a swing set, slides and numerous picnic tables. A large gazebo sits nearby and is a great place to celebrate birthdays. My daughter celebrated turning 2 years old here, in 2002. Time sure fly's by. Lakeside was founded in 1886 when 6,600 acres of land surrounding the naturally occurring Lindo Lake were purchased by the El Cajon Valley Land Company, who immediately began to promote the new land as a town and built an 80-room Victorian-style inn, the Lakeside Hotel. In 1904, John H. Gay bought the Lakeside Hotel and fenced off the park surrounding Lindo Lake, claiming both as part of his estate. He then proceeded to construct an automobile and horse racetrack around the lake, which became famous when Barney Oldfield set a new land speed record when visiting for the track's opening in 1907. In 1916 a number of townspeople, led by John Beadle and Bill Kuhner, petitioned the county to regain use of the park and lake for the general public. A suit was filed, and after a lengthy court trial, Judge C. H. Andrews ruled that the park and the lake were public property. It was returned to the county and rededicated in 1920. Since 1924, the county has maintained the lake and its grounds. Gay's widow sold the Inn to C. A. Judson in 1920 with the stipulation that it be demolished. In the same year, Judson demolished the Inn and donated nine and a half acres to Lindo Lake and Park making the total area 54 1/2 acres. Adding to the natural growth of the park, John Beadle planted many of the trees. These trees consisted of peppers, Australian oaks, locuts, tamaracks, willows, eucalytus, pines and cottonwoods. The lake, paths, and gazebo are great! It was nice to watch the ducks and geese. Skate park and tennis courts in good shape.

The paths around the lake were clean and it was nice seeing all the wildlife (geese, ducks, & squirrels). The parking lots were closed due to coronavirus, but you can park by the sidewalks. We rarely saw any homeless people at the park which was nice. Overall, great place to walk on a sunny day. read more

Took my grandbaby here for the afternoon and it was really great. The park starts at the corner of Vine and Lakeshore in Lakeside. However the actual playground and equipment are completely on the other side so it was a ways away. There are parking lots closer if u choose. I put my grandbaby in the stroller for the walk and he was relatively happy since there was so much to see. There are lots of animals... squirrels and baby squirrels, geese and baby geese, ducks, and all kinds of other waterfowl. There were actually quite a few birds I've never seen in my entire life which was really cool. I brought Goldfish crackers and several of the squirrels came up and took them right from my fingers very gently. It was awesome. There is a skatepark, a clubhouse, workout equipment, plenty of restrooms, tons of picnic tables and pretty much everything you need at a park. We will def go back. read more

Took the dog here in our east county exploration today. It's not the biggest park in comparison to some of the ones in and around La Mesa, but it wasn't a bad little park. Decent walking path for the people who live nearby and it all seemed clean. One of the lakes was dry, but that's not really the parks fault. Would I purposely come back here for a walk? Probably not- but it's a nice place in Lakeside for the locals. Lots of little critters (squirrels and water fowl mostly) for dogs to bark at, so I'm sure it's great for local dog people. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! It is huge, there are so many things to do. At night there is ample lighting. Nice walkways. Kiddos loved the ducks. We were able to fly both their kites. Come here at night to walk the dog and it is very peaceful. I love Lindo! read more

This is the gem that put Lakeside on the map! Lindo Lake is the only natural body of water in the region. All of the surrounding spots are man made. This tucked away lake is both historical and beautiful in it's own right. I take my dog for walks around the lake periodically. There are weeping willow trees lining the water front with several picnic areas to sit back and breath it in. All across the lake you can view ducks and geese thriving in their natural environment. I find it to be an amazing experience and I love to see the water fowl take off and land in the lake without a care in the world. read more

This is a nice little park. I've visited it for years. Sometimes to Birdwatch. People watching is fin too. Sometimes to fish. Ive never don real well fishing here. Not sure if its because of my skill leval as a new fisherman in California, the lack of fish in the lake or a combination of the two. It has plenty of picnic tables In recent years it has added a skateboard park where I saw bicyclists doing tricks, and some exercize equipment. I've also been known to walk around the lake to burn off a few calories after dinner. The have a Facebook page to keep you informed as to upcoming events. They are going to have a couple free movie nights this summer. I read somewhere that Lindo Lake is the only natural (NOT man made) lake in San Diego. Its worth a visit. read more

This place is such a hit or miss. When you pull up and park its looks like it would be a ok place to spend the day however i found some major problems. I have two kids 2 and 7 the park has the wood chips as flooring my kids and myself find this rather annoying. The ducks are fun to feed however the gease can be really aggressive to the point we have to stand on tables to be safe . there is a lot of homeless ,living in a old camper people. I have even witnessed​ my first bum fight . I really don't want my kids to be around. I personally rather pay the five dollars and go to Santee lakes for the day. Lindo Lake Park in Lakeside is a 43 acre park surrounding the only natural lake in San Diego County. Along with the 1.5 mile trail that goes around the lake it also features picnic areas, a play ground, a baseball field, horseshoe pits, fishing and tennis courts. Where have all the junkies gone? I was a little nervous because this park used to be overrun by a questionable element of society and I didn't really feel safe hanging out here with my little ones. This place is now a great family park for bike riding, exercising and birthdays. Now they have remodeled and their is a great exercise park with real working machines, great walking or bike paths and a playground for the kids. And families spending time together, just what a community park should be for. They could get rid of some of the overpopulated birds which have created a huge bird poop stain on one section of the path but other than that, I really enjoyed taking my kids here. I'm undecided how many stars to give this place. It's nice and offers a cool workout area and a neat trail ... But the pond ... Ew. When I briefly read some of the other reviews by other "critics" it reminded me of the great things this place has to offer, but before I read the other comments all that came to mind is how foul the lake is. - The last time I was there my Yorkie was chased by the not so friendly geese's/ goose. - water had some foamy vomit worthy matter floating in it along with duck feces. Looking at it I felt a sudden fear of death knowing if I ever fell in it or got too close I would die from the pores that are floating in the air. It is just.... Horrible they really need to do something about this. read more

My wife and I took our 11 month old to this park last weekend. We were headed to Lake Jennings but decided to give this place a try since it was close to our lunch stop. What a fabulous little park. I didn't note any of the issues mentioned in previous reviews. It was clean and there were county workers everywhere cutting grass and doing maintenance work. (On a Saturday no less) The Ranger was on duty as well making sure folks were following the rules. I also noted a first aid worker on duty at the skate park. Very nice indeed. There is a great little bridge and gazebo for watching the birds and taking photos. We will be back for sure! read more

I have never seen such a brown dirty lake in my life. I felt really bad for the ducks because they didn't dare go near it. Went there to eat my lunch but the entire place smelt like a sewer so I had to leave. Oh, and there were plenty of bums changing their clothes in public and I wouldn't doubt it if they bathed here... not coming back and would never eat the fish caught from here :( On the positive side they have free gym equipment and a skatepark. read more

Lindo Lake is a wonderful 1.5 mile walk around 2 bodies of highly polluted water. It has a large amount of water fowl that poop on the sidewalks and in the green area. Though there are signs everywhere, people still bike and roller skate on the sidewalks. Which can be hard for those who are elderly or those who are walking dogs. I go there almost everyday to walk my dogs and see many homeless and drug seeking people. I feel fairly safe with the present of the park staff riding around constantly. That being said, it is a nice walk with beautiful views and close to my home. A nice place to get out the heat and feel a breeze. read more

It's an average park lots of loud kids Mosquitos and green water. I see a lot of people fish here ...idk if it's actually safe to eat the fish you'd catch. There is also a snapping turtle in the lake, he will poke his cute little head out once in a while. read more
