My coworkers have been raving about this campground for years and I was never able to snag a reservation. Even when we went camping at Lake Easton State Park nearby, we tried to come visit the common area at the beach but every time we tried, this place was full and we could not even enter the campground. Lake Kachess has always been an unobtainable dream for us for years, partly because of my lack of planning as online reservation system is available for this site, although I am telling my kids that it is only because this place is so popular that we had not been able to check it out. So, for the past two years, we had been coming to Lake Kachess, getting rejected at the front gate, and still parking near the beach about 0.5 miles before reaching the front gate. We would go stand up paddle-boarding for a couple of hours and we would go to Lake Easton State Park to go to the bathroom and finish our day there. We loved paddle boarding in Lake Kachess so much that I promised my kids we will camp here someday. In this past summer in 2022, I was finally able to snag a reservation for 2 nights. Our camping spot was close to the non-motorized boat launch area. The campsite was spacious, clean, and well-maintained. It was also close to the vault toilets. We have traditionally and intentionally been camping at state parks for their toilet and shower facilities. However, we were aware that Lake Kachess campground was not part of the state park system and does not have nice toilets and showers. So, our expectation of the toilet facilities was expectedly low. Our challenge, however, was dealing with the waste management truck sucking or removing the waste from the vault toilets every morning around 0700. It was very loud and the resulting aroma seemed to have filled the entire Washington state. It was pretty awful but when my kids and I talked about it, we accepted it as part of this camping experience and being in the wilderness. We came here mostly for stand up paddle boarding so with every chance we got, we headed to the beach. We used the non-motorized boat launch area and it was wonderful. In the morning when there are no boats around in the lake, the water was crystal clear and we could see a lot of fish. It was absolutely beautiful. The green trees everywhere contrast really well with the blue sky and everything was serene and breathtaking. The water was cold but we still went into the water to escape the summer heat. It was refreshing and we felt like we became part of the beautiful scenery. Absolutely loved paddle boarding here. read more

Nice, pretty standard campgrounds. Picnic table and fire pit with grill grate. A little small/close together in thetis loop but well separated with trees. Neighbors across campsite would come in at night and shine headlamps into our site and a bit noisy at night from campers but no road noise. Vault toilets only. Find early in morning but a bit rank with lots of flies by afternoon. Beware water was LOW Labor Day weekend. So very muddy/not actually a beach by the water. Difficult to launch boats or kayaks. This has been my favorite for years because it is pretty low key if you stay on the LIttle Kachess side. We have a small tent, no RV, and this side is quieter with mostly families that are here to paddle and ride bikes. There are a couple of flush toilets with sinks around the sites in addition to the porta potty style. The hosts do a good job of keeping everything clean and the campsites are well maintained. Great places to walk around, and the Rachel Lake trailhead isn't far. This summer the water level is unusually low, as if it were September. We usually can paddle here just fine in July and August, but this time we had to walk or drive almost to the middle of the lake to put our paddleboards out, but we could still paddle and swim. The drive is fine, sand is stable and I have a Subaru that can handle the bumps. I've attached a map of the campground because they are hard to come by. read more

The campground is wholesome and wonderful to stay at. The facilities are clean and the views are incredible. However, for some unexplainable reason, I kept hearing noises, voices, outside of my tent every night. When I checked outside there was no one there. Either it was a couple of teenagers messing with me or theres someone, something, out there. read more

We found a roomy first come first serve site in the lodge loop for 6 of us and 3 tents. The bathrooms were clean and always stocked with toilet paper. Saw maybe 3 Mosquitoes during the 5 days we were there and we came prepared for them. Lakeshore trail close by. Easy 10-minute trek to the lake. Beautiful scenery but wish the lake wasn't so dried up in August. Still managed to find a spot to take a dip. read more

The water and beach are serene and beautiful. 1 Star for the bathrooms. It's basically an outhouse that has no ventilation running water and a lot of flies. The campground itself and the lake are beautiful. There are MASSIVE issues with booking on recreation.gov so if you have booked a site double check online or call ahead to make sure that your dates are still secure. I had 4 days booked and when we arrived the sign had us down for 1 night with other reservations for the entire weekend. It was a mess! After scouring the campground for another open site and speaking to other campers we found out it happened to lots of people. The hosts were nice enough but there was nothing they could do about it. They said the glitch was all recreation.gov. If you had the same problem here is their number: 1.877.732.4681 Toilets are outhouses w/ no sinks but that's camping. No showers. Plenty of water spigot's around. BE WARNED: Mosquitos are the worst we've ever seen! We had citronella tiki torches, citronella candles and incense sticks, bug spray (essential oil and DEET) and nothing stopped the swarms. We actually left after our first night because the kids wouldn't leave the camper. The lake is the only safe haven. read more

This is my idea of heaven during the summer. A nice getaway for anyone living in the metro area. Just a short 60 minute drive from Seattle through i-90. Far enough away from the city to feel like you're getting away from all that concrete, but not too far that it kills your gas. I've gone 3 or so times within the month of August. I loved it that much since the first time I went there. They have resident campers (mostly old people, who most are nice) who clean the bathrooms daily! No stink. No nastiness. Campers need not be afraid to drop that deuce! Bathrooms are close to every camp site. They have like 180 - 200 campsites. 5 or 6 different areas. And one area dedicated for double sites, perfect for multifamily campers. With the areas, each has their own themes. I like to compare some for example I would call "ooo, that's Palm Springs". haha. There were areas that were low and one that was up high. Each campsite is fashioned with fire pits and picnic tables. The really cool thing is each area has access to the lake. A really short walk really. And even cooler, it's not like all trails lead to one lake shore area. They all lead to different places depending on which area you decided to camp in. So plenty of privacy if you need. And ahh, the water is so clear. Lots of people bring their boats, kayaks, canoes, inner tubes... There's hiking. There's another trail to go to another lake, Rachael Lake I think it's called. That one takes a logging road to get up to - 8 miles and then another 2 or 4 miles to hike to. Things to know: $20/night for single site $40/night for double sites BRING YOUR OWN FIREWOOD oh, and the mosquito's are really big there make sure you're prepared because the nearest gas station is 8 - 12 miles East on i-90, but they do sell a hardcore bug spray repellent. read more

Alright so I heard of this campground from a friend and he made it sound like a very great place to camp for the summer weekend... well i just got back today (6/26/11) and I have to say he was correct! It was more than just a majestic, clear, good enough to drink lake but it also had a beautiful background of mountains and trees where it sat. This beautiful lake also had 2 creeks/ little rivers running to it from what I discovered which made me wanna kayak down it. The lake was really cold but today the weather was warm enough for me to take a dip. Furthermore, there is apparently a nature trail but the paths were not so great.... it seemed as if my group and I had to make our own trail. Now for the little Lake Kachess trail, well i must say it was an adventure... Along our trail we came across a completely washed up bridge that shouldve ran across the creek/river that continued with the trail that almost made us think that the short trail ended there but that didn't stop us from crossing the river so we hiked further along the river through the forest in the hopes that there would've been a fallen tree that we can use to cross the river and what do you know!!?? there was!!! well we hiked on little Kachess trail for about 4 and a half hours round trip and the trails weren't bad at all.....Except after you cross the initial natural tree log bridge.. I dont want to say too much.. Go discover! I gave this place 4 out of 5 stars because i think there couldve been something better to have sparked it to 5 stars... maybe if the campsites were more dense with trees other than logged trees which kinda lacked privacy but it wasn't too bad.. We chose site 22! and i personally like how it was next to the river ... i threw some beers in the river to keep them cold cuz i had no ice and put a bag of oysters in there to keep them fresh!! and the park workers were nice!! that's a plus cuz we were pretty loud and we exceeded our max number of people per campsite by 4!! LOL..... well that's enough for now.... its a must to go check out!! If you end up not having fun, slap yourself. Thats your fault Cuz I can have fun sleeping lol. This is a great place to camp that is only about an hour east of Seattle. Just on the other side of Snoqualmie Pass, the campground has great sites, some right on the lake. Reservations for sites are accepted. Lake Kachess itself is gorgeous--nestled in the foothill terrain and stretching as far as the eye can see. There is a swimming area and little bit of a beach within the camp, boat launch, kayaking, jetskiing, fishing, you name it. The Camp also offers a great hike on Little Kachess Lake Trail. The trailhead is within the camp, and it the first couple of miles are very easy for those that just want to go on a stroll, offering more breathtaking views of the Lake and the terrain (some of those Kodak moments). It continues on about 3 more miles through more difficult terrain. We were told that it ends higher up to some beautiful hidden alpine lakes. There is a store a couple of miles east that offers everything from coffee to beer to bait. There is also the Family Pancake House near the Snoqualmie Ski Resort--order yourself a chicken fried steak breakfast, friends! Great way to get out and car camp for the weekend without having a long travel time. read more

I am a new camper and we have camped here twice in the last two years. Here is what I can tell you. You will want to be on Thetis Creek Loop. The best campsite there is #126. It's the closest to the Lake and has direct access. There is also a water source directly in front of this site. The vault toilets are about 3 campsite distance in either direction. So not too far. No Showers. But that's what the lake is for, right? The other sites around #126 have access to the Lake as well, but you need to walk a little path to get there, which is easy, but I like to be close. Being close though, everyone is walking either thru your camp, thinking its the public path to the lake, or behind your campsite, because that is where the lake trail is. There is a fabulous buffer on either side of this site. So it is private. The Cons: This site gets HOT. There is little to no shade at this location, so on those 85 degree days, expect to be somewhere else. Another word of caution, there are mosquitos. Quite a bit of them. Bring spray. Also on Thetis loop, the lower numbers ( #118 or #120) are near a small river/bog . This is a breeding ground for the mosquitos. Avoid those campsites at all costs. Be on the other side of the loop. Something odd. People would drive by our campsite asking if we were leaving. The sign post at our campsite clearly listed it was reserved for us and for the weeks ahead by others. I can only imagine the confusion if they were to set up after we left, only to have the party that reserved it arrive. I think that the people at the entry booth are NOT explaining the reservation/ open site process clearly to these people. The campsite is all dirt so expect to get pretty dirty real fast. And even though your suppose to keep your dogs on leash, we saw a 50/50 on this rule. read more

I've had many a camping trip in this Campground, it's beautiful and only an hour or so from Seattle. This time round I was disappointed to find that some of the best camp areas were closed due to logging. Who logs a campground? I just don't get it and this will most likely prevent me from going back for a long time knowing that the beautiful old growth timber will no longer grace these sites. Otherwise the park is situated in a forest nestled alongside of the majestic Lake Kachess and Little Lake Kachess and bordered between Box Canyon Creek and Gayle Creek. The sites aren't exactly private but the setting is stunning and if you're lucky to get a site on the lake side, you'll have a breath taking view to enjoy. Do know that there are no showers here and the clean little bathrooms are without light so there will be no glamping here and be sure to bring a flashlight so you can find the potty in the dark! There is a boat launch on the East side of the grounds for Lake Kachess where the big boats should go. However for us inflatable fishing boaters with electric motors, there is Little Lake Kachess where the wakes, if the big boaters are courteous, are kept to a minimum. All around the lake are sandy and pebble shores with plenty of fishing spots to enjoy. You can also take in the scenery and hike along the trail or rock hunt in Box Canyon Creek. This trail follows the ridge around Little Lake Kachess and has a few outlooks to take in the amazing views. Although I was heartbroken to see the broken forest of cut down trees and debris standing where once stood my favorite grounds to pitch a tent, thankfully the beauty of this lake and all that can be done here outshined the disaster we were greeted with. read more

This is a beautiful area to camp but I wouldn't necessarily recommend this campground. It seemed a little pricey for the lack of amenities, not to mention no store anywhere near, very unmaintained trails that they don't even recommend hiking on any more and the rangers were not so friendly. I will definitely come back to the area, there are tons of free sites all along the Forrest road to the left of the campground, and plenty to do in the area. read more

My family has been camping at Kachess since my mom, now in her 50s, was in diapers. Her entire extended family would head up with their gear and tent/tent trailers and fill up several double campsites. I camped here as a child and all my fondest memories are of playing sardines in the darkness with my aunts, bathing the baby cousins in a rubbermaid tub, and dad pretending to cut his finger off with a hatchet and throwing a thumb-shaped hotdog at the kids (with a fake fingernail carved into it and everything). I just returned from this summer's annual campout at Kachess and it once again proved to be just as memorable as my childhood. We camped in Gale Creek, right next to the water's edge, with the sound of the water drowning out everything else while you slept. it's a fantastic dog-friendly campground with very friendly camp hosts (CHUCK IS THE BEST!) and operates under US Forest Service so it follows its own burn ban rules. While the rest of the county is under a strict burn ban, controlled small campfires are permitted within the camp. Call ahead of time to make sure burn bans aren't in effect, as we have had a few trips spoiled with no campfires. Take a day hike up to "the chair" by crossing the river and following the trail just along the west edge of the north end of the lake. Or, drive up to the waterfalls up the steep gravel road outside the entrance to the camp. Less one star because more and more sites are becoming reservable (probably a bonus for others, but not ideal for our family) and the toilets are chronically broken in certain loops. When the plumbed toilets are out of order, pit toilets are all that remain. read more

Nice place, short trip getaway for a perfect weekend rest. Pls book in advance especially during Spring to summer. It gets fully booked pretty quickly. This place is pretty amazing and I'm saying this based on my experience. It's super clean where I camped. The restroom is at least 100 yards away from my tent, no showers here though at least where my campsite location was. As soon as I got here I scoped through my surroundings and had already planned how this stay was going to get executed. I know...as OCD as I am, I do however prepared myself and went all out to explore being naturale. Haha! I managed to bring all my hygiene regimen (I brought my closet and my bathroom in a bag). I had baby wipes! Call that cheating and organic... It is pitch black here so I hope you have nice flashlights that are super bright. The restroom Is clean and attended at least twice a day. There is a clipboard hanging on the wall that shows that it's been attended to. The workers here stop by to say hello but really I think they just do that to check people out making sure they aren't here to cause trouble. After all that burn ban and missed out on some could've been awesome camping last year, I wasn't having it this time and loaded a truck full of woods and everything else that go with it Here, there are plenty of room to take walks around the trails where I can get to the water and enjoy the soothing sounds of the streams of water coming from the mountains. The beach is majestic. It's very refreshing to just sit on the ground lean on broken trees logs, hang out and look at the stars in complete darkness. Buddy and I dared ourselves to walk one night. It was pretty spooky but pretty adventurous! Hahaha It was absolutely magical. I love camping, camped a lot growing up, and I can't wait for my second one very soon. read more

My friend and I went to this campground, as several of our coworkers spoke very highly of it, and it was the perfect distance for a short two-night stay. I must say that we were quite disappointed. While there were spectacular views, the weather was nice, and our particular campsite was away from all the other campers, there are so many drawbacks that we won't be back. Our biggest issue is that the nature trails are pretty much completely unmaintained. It is NOT a good campground if you like to hike. It's so bad, I worry that some family will allow their kids or tweens to go hiking on their own, and that they'll get lost. Heck, WE were worried about getting lost just a short way in! Secondly, this campground is noisy even when no one is around. There are log homes nearby, and the residents were shooting guns all day long, completely taking us out of the natural experience. I shouldn't feel like I should have worn hunter orange to camping. There is a military plane that is terrifying and flies by twice a day, according to the camp host, who was alarmingly enthusiastic about having military planes practicing and flying low over the campground. Speaking of the camp hosts, they clearly enjoyed driving their noisy golf carts back and forth every couple minutes through the camp. Once every couple hours I can understand. But this was constant! Lastly, the water was good to drink, but there were many burst pipes throughout the camp. It's not worth $21 a day, and sadly, that means fewer people will be coming, and that there will be even less money to fix what could be a wonderful campsite. If you're the type of camper who doesn't stray far from the campsite and enjoys socializing with other campers, you may still have a good time. Otherwise, I advise you to avoid this one. read more

It's serener, fun, lots to do, and the perfect location. Some years we even venture out to roslyn for dinner and pool, depending on how the weekend is going. The campground its self was beautiful and the lake was amazing. We had a great time exploring Lake Kachess in our kayaks and fishing the lake. The campsite in the Gale Creek loop was nice, too. Lots of shade and very large site. That being said, I was disappointed on a few things. One being that according to the accommodations listed online, both bathrooms and running water were supposed to be readily available on all loops. In the loop we stayed in it was only vault toilets with only one location for water at the very end of the loop. We explored other loops and discovered three loops had lots of water and actual bathrooms, while most loops had vault toilets and sparse water. Had we known this we would have picked a loop that had the bathrooms and water, since those are important to me while camping while pregnant. Was just disappointing that we were given wrong information on the website. Another disappointing thing has everything to do with the fellow campers. When will people learn that it is disrespectful to walk through someone else's campsite...? We had a couple families near us that decided since our site backed up to the Gale Creek, that MUST mean that they can walk right past our tent/fire pit/table/dogs to get to the creek and back. It was beyond rude, and we encounter this unfortunately almost everywhere we go now. Very disappointing to see that there is no respect for other people, or the money they spent to spend time on a specific site - if they were interested in the creek they needed to reserve a site off the creek. They didn't do that, so they need to go down to the bridge (you know, go on a little walk...) to access the creek. Lastly, another sad thing that has to do with the campers is whoever had our site prior to us was so messy! They left trash EVERYWHERE! We ended up having to clean up beer bottle caps and wine corks and candy wrappers from all over our site the second we got there, filling an entire dog poop bag with miscellaneous trash. The dumpster was literally next to our site, it took less than 10 seconds to walk trash to the dumpster. Again, I will never understand how people can be so disrespectful to the earth and others who come to enjoy it. It is not fair to expect the rangers to clean every single site between 12pm and 2pm, especially when people continually leave so much trash on the ground. We encounter is regularly at other campgrounds too, and it is disappointing. I gave 3 stars because the grounds themselves are beautiful, that being the park and the lake. But I took stars away for false advertising on the bathrooms and water access and the inconsiderate campers ruining it for others. read more

What a great location! The lake was crystal clear, the weather phenomenal, and this large campground had plenty of space for our Sunday through Tuesday trip. I loved that the campgrounds were spaced out well, and drinking water was easy to get to. I walked around a lot and no campsite is bad, but if you're going for water access you'd definitely like Thetis Creek loop or the loop near the beach. We stayed in Lodge Creek loop, and while very private, we had to drive to get to the beach. Bathrooms are clean and not at all smelly (a camping miracle) but there is only one bathroom per loop which would be VERY tough on a busy week. My advice? Stay near the loop ends. That's where most bathrooms seemed to be located, if you're worried about that sort of thing. Lastly, the hosts seemed very accommodating, but don't think you're getting away with breaking the rules. No dogs on most parts of the beach, every drink in a plastic cup, and make sure to know what to pay for (we had issues trying to pay for an extra car). I still think it was worth it, $21 didn't seem too bad for what we got, but do your research and bring lots of bug spray! We'll be back! read more

While the camp grounds are good the staff is so useless and utterly helpless they can ruin your whole experience. We pulled to our reserved spot to find another group there with no intention of moving. They had no contingency plan and zero solutions. The forest manager was maybe the most spineless guy I've met in any position of authority. Instead of making sure law enforcement got out and got these folks who hadn't even paid to leave they tried to move us around from site to site. These bumbling blockheads offered no reconciliation until we demanded to get our money back. If you camp here hope nothing goes wrong because the staff will ensure it only gets worse. read more

It's sad to see the negative reviews and I'm sorry those people didn't have a better time. I've been going to this camp ground for about 8 of the last 10 years with my son and daughter. Mostly my son for the past 5 years. No, I'm not divorced, my wife just it's a camper, unless there's room service. ;-) Except for one year we get the same first-come, first-serve spot because we arrive mid-week. It's only 60 minutes form where we live so it's easy to get to. The beach can get a little crowded during the weekend in the summer, but we don't mind. The lake is awesome for swimming, fishing or just relaxing. Over all my experience is it's a very peaceful location. I want to stay longer every time I go. read more

Been coming here since the 70's. So sad to see the overuse now though. Several years ago, they removed infected trees in some of the loops. Thetis Creek loop was closed for more than a decade due to storm damage/dangerous trees, and lack of funds to fix it up. It was reopened a few years back, but now the shoreline is overcrowded, seriously eroded, and littered with garbage and doggie poop bags. Someone was even smoking and throwing their butts on the ground... near the brush and trees that are tinder dry! The main swim area is best for kids, as the shoreline anywhere else is lacking a beach most of the summer season, and is VERY deep. For $21.00 a night, you get a pit toilet, or a small restroom with cold water and a flush toilet or two that might be in working order. Thousand Trails manages the area and is constantly buzzing up and down in their gas powered cart. Don't expect to get away with illegal activity or have a party camp. Trash in all the dumpsters is overflowing, seems they have one pick up a week, NOT on Monday after the crowded weekend. During the summer you may have a fire in the approved pits, but check before you go. No Coleman fuel lanterns or stoves are allowed, only propane. No BBQ's or charcoal... there is a reason. Today's society is definitely lacking some serious camping etiquette.... that is,... Leave no trace. Leave wood for the next folks. Make friends. Turn down the music. Keep your campsite clean (ours was messy with trash when we arrived), and leave it better than you found it. Voices travel! I don't need to hear about Uncle Bud's colonoscopy. Block your light if you are up past 10, or turn it off. Meet your neighbors, help them back in, share a fire starter or two... (egg carton cups with lint and wax) we had someone do this for us, as well as give us free wood. Respect the forest....Keep Washington green, and keep it clean. Pass it on! read more

This lake is the location of my childhood. I'm a Kachess kid, my family camping there most summer weekends for my entire life. (We have a cabin, that is not part of the campground. But it's next to it so I've been there a lot and seen how it's changed over the past 30 years.) A little back story about the logging, mentioned by the other reviewers, the trees were hit with some sort of tree disease that spread like a cancer over the past decade. The campground used to be maintained by the forest service (Federal), but is now leased by bureau of land management to a private company "Thousand Trails." The lake is cold and clean and it's a great place to hang out with your family. The trails are not as good as they used to be, and the campground is a lot less private since the trees were taken out. I'd rather our tax dollars and camping fees went to the forest service to give college kids or teachers summer jobs to maintain trails, than to a private company that just does the basics. But that's another debate and not part of a review. I give 5 stars to the lake itself, and 3 stars to the campground because of maintenance issues. read more

Is this really Kachess Lake Campground? The signs says it is. Sure nothing like I remember it 20 years ago - back when each site was very cozy and private. It used to be densely forested and very quiet. Now everywhere is haphazard and rampant logging except (it seems - the day use area). I can see areas that are being worked on for future campsites. I can see a campground being selectively logged once every ten years or clearing away blow downs. But everywhere where logging occured are enormous crag piles where the loggers took the choice logs but left the branches. Worse lots of stumps were left where a tent could be pitched. So yes the places been logged - whether to deal with diseased trees or because Thousand Trails now runs the place and sells trees to supplement their corporate bottom line. So much of the lakeside has 'grown up' (pun intended) as there are so few accessible lake shore spots along the lake shore trail. The only spot that offers a wide expanse of the lake is the swimming area and the boat ramps. Ain't no longer our 'go to' campground - unless we can reserve some of the few premium (which isn't saying much) campsites. Sorry to see you go to pots - Kachess read more

Beautiful lake, terrible rangers. It may have been the delinquent vibe we gave them in the beginning, but anywho, this is no place for a group of teens. My friends and I still had fun, cracking beers left and right but the rangers literally stalked our campsite until dusk. It was ridiculous! read more

Lake Kachess is a nice enough campground but expensive for what you get. We were only 3 adults and 1 child with 2 medium tents but they were too big to fit into a single site, unlike at other campgrounds. So we were forced to rent a double site, which was way too big for what we needed and cost $40/nite. For that much one would expect good facilities however that is not the case here. This campground didn't have any real bathrooms (unless you hopped in your car and drove) and no showers. There was only a disgusting outhouse nearby. The one nice amenity was there were water faucets for every few campsites. read more

The campground, is huge, well kept, but there's hardly any camp spots, with a view of the lake. The sites, are well spaced, and we didn't feel close to our neighbors at all. The best view, is at the day use area, looking down the lake. The bathrooms, have running water and flush toilets, but no showers. We brought bikes, and had a nice time riding around the park, checking it out. The mosquitos, were biting, so good thing we brought bug spray! I think, if I had a kayak, and got to camp with a view, I'd have given 4 stars, maybe 5, but no showers, takes one star away. read more

First off I want to say that we have been coming to this campground with our friends and family for the last eight years, and we have always had a great experience. Not this last time. We came on Tuesday set up our tents in a non-reserved camp site, paid for it, and then on Friday morning, The camp "manager" BRIAN, tells us that the site has been reserved, even though there were no reserve signs, and asked us to leave after we had already set everything up and have been camping there the last few days.. and while we were away from our campsite boating, we had come back to our campsite to see that some of our stuff had been packed up .. which means they came to our site and we're touching private property. of course it was frustrating since we would never have unpacked our stuff had we known it was reserved- we ended up moving and unpacking our stuff to another site that we had reserved, just to find out that the spot we had moved from no one showed up, but they told us we needed to get out since the people that reserved it had arrived. So obviously they lied . also be very careful about paying in your envelope with cash, because we had paid for 4 days and then were told that they couldn't find our envelope, and made us pay again- The manager Brian was really rude not helpful and very arrogant, you could tell he just wanted to make our time miserable here- a woman host and Brian kept coming to our campsite and bothering us even after we had moved our stuff. It really sucks that they had ruined our experience, because now our friends and family will not be coming back here! Their reservation system sucks and they are horrible at managing this campground. If Brian and the other hosts leave, we will definitely be back. read more

Lake Kachess Campground - Campgrounds Near Me - Easton, Washington

This has become our new favorite camping site! We usually go to Lake Crescent however this matches it and it's a much shorter drive! Camp hosts were extremely friendly and our camp site was perfect! We fit in 4 tents and still had plenty of space. Very private and only a minute walk from the Lake. The lake is gorgeous and the park offers great walking trails! Definitely going again! read more

Kachess lake is a beautiful lake and the campground is located close enough to the city to do a night trip but far enough away to feel like you can escape for a night. Overall the campground was nice with conveniently located bathrooms. However all that aside, do NOT come here without a reservation. We arrived at 8:30 and were doing walk up camping. There was no attendant at the entrance window and there were no signs or regulations listed saying we couldn't claim an open spot so when we found an empty one with no reserved signs we started setting up. After we were done we went back to the entrance to try and pay we were greeted by and extremely rude and blunt gate attendant. She then told us we can not set up or do anything until after noon. When noon came around there were probably 20 cars lined up just to enter to look for an open spot. They wouldn't let you pick a site until you drove through and wrote down your three favorites then they would pick which one you got. I have never heard of anything like this at a campsite. Needless to say this created havoc among the multiple groups trying to find a site and caused a lot of stress on everyone. The gate attendant was no help whatsoever and was probably one of the rudest people I have ever talked to. She made this campsite leave a very bad taste in my mouth and I would never come back here read more

Don W. 8-13-2012 We also stayed at Lake Kachess Campground during the last week. We have been camping there for 30 years. There was a lot of folks upset by the camp hosts, 1000 trails folks and park Ranger last weekend. The camp ground was full last weekend. You could not have a Fire, Gas fire pit, Weber barbecue, or even a candle ( except in a can ). They were in all the camp sites complaining about everything all week and weekend. One of the most beautiful lakes in the State of Washington. We take our jet skies there and enjoy the whole lake. Islands, beaches and swimming away from the crowd. 95 minutes from Olympia to Kachess. Boat ramp is great and parking is good. Go if you can during the week. Take the day off. On the weekend the boat ramp can be busy. My son and I went last week Tuesday and almost had the entire lake to ourselves. Parked the jet skies on an island and went swimming in beautiful clear water and was not cold. Five stars for beauty, boat ramp and sun!!! read more

Lake Kachess has good and bad. The good: Most of the camping spots have nice separation between them for some privacy, the lake is beautiful with a nice water temp for swimming. Lots of birds and other critters. The bad: It's a popular campground. People go camping for different reasons. Some, like me, go to get out of the city, get some peace and quiet and to enjoy nature. The other end of the spectrum goes to party. I don't understand why they couldn't just be obnoxious in their own back yards and let us be. That's the nature of pubic campgrounds so it is what it is. The hosts at this campground are not at all there to make sure the campers have a good experience. The bathrooms got no maintenance during the busy weekend at all. No TP by saturday evening. Pack your own. The camp site next to ours was one of the "party crowd" and were up ALL night making noise. Instead of the campground hosts enforcing the quiet hours, they were getting drunk and high with them. I guess if you're a cute brunette and make friends with the hosts, you can get away with anything. Bring your ear plugs to this piece of nature and don't expect the hosts to be very host-like. read more

We used to camp here many years ago so I thought i'd take my kids there to check it out - and encountered the nastiest dispicable old hag manning the check in station. First she came out and literally screamed 'stop' which we did! Then she said 'what you think you're doing, you have to pay for day use here'. She rolled her eyes when I said all I wanted to do was do a drive through to look at the campground and lake and told me she'd have to fill out a '15 minute visitor pass' and then told me if we were out a single minute past that we'd have to pay her $7 for day use!? I told her she should treat visitors with a more respectful tone and she then told us 'well you don't like it then you may as well just turn around and leave!?'. Which we did. I'm not exaggerating and she needs to be canned. She's about 70 with short hair and dentures...go on up and say hi, she's a real sweetheart! read more
