Lake Kittamaqundi Walking around Lake Kittamaqundi in winter time is the most peaceful walk, less people, and geese are wonderful experiences. Stop at the water fountain that lighted during night time, or taking break at benches that provided along the lake. Don't forget to stroll along the boardwalk that closer to water. Watch for trails directions so you don't get lost to housing neighborhoods on every turns. Also a nice dome shape playground for kids to play and a long slide adding more fun! Columbia, MD 21044 no porta potty around the trails, stop by Whole Foods during store hours. accessible for strollers and wheelchairs parking lot around the lake #lakekittamaqundi #columbiamd #preservefootprints

Met my dear friend for a walk around the lake. I have been to the Whole Foods store here but never realized there was a lake behind it! It looks like it would be lovely in Spring and Fall. Right now, the water is low and covered with algae. Friend says the "cleanup" boat is out every day, and sure enough it was chugging slowly along, sucking up algae. Mapmyrun said we walked 1.54 miles. I noticed a few things along the way, like the Kennedy Garden and a small par course. Back at the dock, there's a stage that has a sandwich board with a list of dates when Bailey Park has evening events like movies. There's a nice play area for smaller kids with a big climbing structure and a slide. Friend says normally there's a lot going on, like paddleboat rentals & ice cream vendors, etc. Covid seems to have shut all that down. We went into Whole Foods and bought refreshing drinks, and had a nice visit. I plan to return when the weather is cooler, because this is a nice place to walk.

I have so many memories coming to this lake when I first moved to Maryland years ago. It's still as beautiful as ever! Great for walking and running. Fountain, benches, tables. Whole Foods is right next door. Grab your lunch, get a blanket out of your car, enjoy the the view while relaxing on the grass.

Full transparency: I have zero idea how to pronounce this lake (lol!), but I've enjoyed walking and picnicing around it during these early fall days. Situated right behind Whole Foods, Lake Kittamaqundi is really a one-stop-shop for some nature lovin', with shopping and eating not too far away. You'll find people biking, running, and walking their dogs on the trail around the lake; others picnicing, painting, and reading. Heck, you may even see some proposals, birthdays and weddings (like I did on my latest visit!). There's really something for everyone, if only a place to sit and catch your breath for five minutes. Lots of benches and clean grassy areas for a blanket, plus piers that'll take you right up to the waterfront. A quick search tells me this lake/reservoir is manmade, which is incredible to think about. I love how there's a place to purposefully unwind right in the middle of Downtown.

Love this spot! Peaceful, shaded, flat, scenic with a mix of eateries. There are a couple of piers as well as a nice shaded observation deck with seating and tables. The breeze underneath is amazing

This area holds a lot of sentimental value for my husband and myself-going back decades when there was an elevated area on the pier. Back then there wasn't as much to the area. There was the open air stage area and a trail area that lead toward Symphony Woods one way and toward the Vantage Point neighborhood. I don't believe it looped around the back area of the lake. The area is flanked by buildings on the 175 side which used to house many popular restaurants. Many of those restaurants have left, leaving many abandoned retail spaces. So sad. But you come here for the lake, the trail, the pier, the wildlife. As I watched couples walking arm in arm it took me back to a time when we were on the verge of adulthood, but still very much kids. Now we have kids who are older then we were then. Time flies! But romance is timeless. The pier remains, but the elevated area has been removed and a really neat Bell Tree "Clock" remains. There are benches where you can sit and listen to the chimes every 15 mins. Or you can do some catch and release fishing with friends. Or just ride your bike or walk your doggie around the lake. Come and make memories!

I love this lake. It's so peaceful and right by Whole Foods and lots of restaurants, so a nice place to go for a walk after meals/have picnics at. Not too crowded during weekdays, but occasionally would hold small events here. Ample parking spaces for free right by the lake. Many benches by the lake, so you can enjoy the view! There is a little trail that goes around the lake, which is like a 30-40min walk.

Restaurants, a band stand, an outdoor amphitheater, plenty of parking and even paddle boats for rent, the lakeside at Lake Kittamaqundi is perfect to bring the kids or to bring your date. Paved walking route that takes you through the trees and about the lake. Apparently, there are actual fish in the lake. I had no idea. And when all that's done, you can head over to Town Center for shopping!

We completed 3.3 miles on the Lake Kittamaqundi to Wilde Lake Trail in Columbia... This was a pretty simple ride. Great views of the lake with many places to sit and "lake watch". We saw a sign that displayed a calendar of free outdoor events at Lakefront Plaza. We'll bike here again one day and stay late for an outdoor movie . This trail connects to other trails in Columbia for those who want an extended but chill ride. It's also located right near Columbia mall so there's plenty of places to have dinner if you're interested. The Lakefront plaza had a nice playground for the kids as well called Bailey Park. As we went further along the trail, we found a few exercise/stretch stations. Overall the trail was short and sweet but there was a gentle climb going towards Wilde lake. It was steep enough to give me a tiny challenge but not steep enough for me to need a break. Most of it was downhill on the way back. Unfortunately, we were not able to fully complete the trail due to construction. Instead we improvised near the end of the trail and rode around the opposite site of Wilde lake before turning around to head back to the start. There was also a short but very steep hill near the construction site by Wilde Lake the lake trail also had a stent of wood chip surface but the rest of the trail was paved or planked bridges. Along the trail, we saw some rabbits , frogs , turtles , and fish . We started video tapping a crane (I think it was a crane)that we thought was about catch some food. Turns out, the crane was just enjoying the sunset like us lol. Overall, this is a good trail to get about 3.5 miles in roundtrip or extend the ride for a longer trip through the trails of patuxent. Please don't go fast on this trail. There are many walkers (especially elderly walkers) so take your time and enjoy the mix of nature, neighbors, and businesses.

Another day, another place to walk Oscar and Mayer. Usually we walk the dogs around Lake Elkhorn because it ic closer be occasionally we'll make the trek to the equally beautiful Lake Kittamaqundi. (Full disclosure, I cut and pasted [Kittamaqundi] from wikipedia because I'm a terrible speller.) This was another great visit. A beautiful day in a beautiful place walking the dogs with my beautiful wife. The trail was great with so many spots to see wildlife, take a rest on a bench, do one of the trail exercises, or just enjoy the views. There are even indoor and outdoor venues for music and a view trendy restaurants. Another bonus is a Whole Foods right on the lake. Burn a few calories before gaining some more.

Romantic, picturesque walks w your partner, family walks during the fall and spring, opportunities to jog in the peace of nature and along the lake, all a priceless experience at LK. A short walk from the mall, this is a favorite local hub.

My favourite part of living in Columbia is Lake Kittamaqundi! This lake is so beautiful and scenic that I LOVE walking my dogs here. On beautiful warm spring days, I enjoy walking around the entire lake and taking in the simple joys of nature like feeding the ducks and geese today! There are people running, strolling , walking their dogs around the lake and even people stand up paddle boarding though I can't imagine how cold the water is in the winter. I love to sit down by the fountain and people watch here, enjoying the beautiful daffodils that the city has done a good job planting. The lake is a stunning backdrop for whole foods, and the row of restaurants that flank the lake. Walking around this lake really is the highlight of my day!

A lovely spot to walk. Grab lunch at Whole Foods or other restaurants there. In summer there are boats to rent. Just don't feed the geese!

An amazing day trip if you live in Baltimore, DC area, or even the Eastern Shore. Kent Island is easy to get to and close to a ton of restaurants so you can make an entire afternoon out of it. Karla was especially amazing because she let us know before the day of that the waters were going to be choppy due to the wind so we were warned about it being a little more difficult. Once we arrived, she took us through an introductory class to teach us the fundamentals about paddleboarding and form. She impressed upon us that the water was not very deep so that we weren't nervous going out on the choppy waters! She then came with us to take pictures of us standing up and a group shot all together! She also followed up with a thank you email and attached the pictures she took -- now if that isn't unbelievable service, I don't know what is!! I would (and will) visit her again as it was an amazing day on the water even if it was almost 100 degrees out!!!
