I live less than 15 minutes from Color Burst park and I always wonder to myself why I don't utilize it more. In the summer, it becomes a large open green space with a splash pad, offering things like free outdoor yoga classes or festivals on the green. In the winter, it becomes a large outdoor ice rink. It's surrounded by a variety of new restaurants and apartments and there is lots of parking, including a (usually) free parking garage. read more

Color burst park is conveniently located in downtown Columbia. It's right by Merriweather Post Pavilion. There are lots of restaurants and shops surrounding it. The area has something for everyone. On this occasion, they had a holiday market for the weekend. They also have the annual ice-skating rink. It's rather small but enjoyable for the kids. For the holiday market they blocked off the courtyard area. Plenty to do plenty to see. I enjoyed myself and would highly recommend attending any events in the area. read more

This is a turf applied field attracting families with children and solos of all ages. It's beautiful to dine facing the park. Bonus; fabulously, comfortable, and colorful Adirondack chairs to sit in facing the park. Really fun to see families having fun read more

A hidden gem located amongst apartments and new restaurants. I've seen vendors, yoga, and 2 live bands perform. It is also a place to bring the kids and pets to play. The grounds are kept clean. It's a good vibe with everyone enjoying themselves and having a good time. I would suggest arriving early if attending a concert for parking. There is a garage and a small lot. Bring folding chairs. I wouldn't consider this that much of a park but it is definitely a nice outdoor area nestled in the midst of several businesses in the continually developing Merriweather District. Most recently, I attended a poetry slam event here and I really enjoyed the vibe. It was decorated with lights and they use fake grass so you can easily sit on the ground or bring a lawn chair. During the summer, they host a lot of events at this park from fitness classes to musical performances. There is also a splash pad for the kids on summer days as well. This is definitely going to be the place to be as they continue to build and open up more restaurants around here. I definitely see myself using this park to enjoy some ice cream from the Charmery on a nice day which I've already done before. read more

Proud to report I'm writing this review from my couch and not the emergency room. That's right y'all. Your girl didn't fall while ice skating. And this is my first time! Kristi Yamaguchi 2.0 with the skates. JK. The blue whale pusher (more than likely meant for kids) was my saving grace. You buy your tickets in advance online (they sell out). You get there, they scan your mobile ticket and get free ice skate rental. I believe tickets are for 75 minutes. I think the whale was an extra cost but I'm not sure. You keep your mask on the entire time. Cant really social distance on ice so that's that. No lockers to store your shoes while you skate so I wouldn't wear anything you wouldn't want getting stolen. You can see your shoes from the rink and it's mostly families and couples so I don't think anyone would be stealing shoes but you never know. Over all fun experience. I recommend booking the earliest slot. It gets packed the later in the day it appears. read more

Great area. Came for the Holiday Market and Ice Skating. Free Photo Booth, carols, vendors and close proximity to restaurants. I've skating was pretty affordable, $15 for 75 minutes. Nice, family friendly atmosphere with festive mood. read more

Horrible ice maintenance. Don't waste your hard earned money. They tell you they are cleaning soon but one hour go by and there is no cleaning. Impossible to skate like this. So frustrating! read more

Color Burst Park is located in the new Merriweather District in Downtown Columbia. It is an open use park located behind the new Juniper apartments and will soon be surrounded by restaurants like Matchbox, Bus Boys and Poets, and The Charmery. There's turf, seating, benches and plenty of space for those looking to spend time outdoors - to me, a bit reminiscent of Rockville Town Square and old school Downtown Silver Spring. Currently, Color Burst Park is transformed into an ice skating rink for the winter season, providing families with a safe outdoors activity. Adding on to the season's festivities, there are lights, hot cocoa for purchase and a Christmas tree and Menorah fixtures. The ice skating was super fun - we easily reserved tickets online, picked up our skates (cleaned in front of us), and were on our way to the ice. They are selling a set number of tickets by time slot to ensure for social distancing, but it's hard to keep exactly 6 ft apart while skating. We didn't get a chance to purchase any food or drink, but the nearby Cured/18th and 21st were serving up eats for the evening. Can't wait to see what Color Burst has to offer when it starts getting warm outdoors again. read more

Free concerts in the summer is hard to beat. Colorburst Park is a great venue. Right next to Meriweather, it isn't overly big but is a good venue to catch a live show. They also had food trucks, zoo all you need to do us bring a chair or blanket. read more

I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately it's not safe AT ALL. Its way overcrowded with COVID and they are allowing too many people on the rink at a time despite the timed entries. The rink is TINY and I think the most amount of people they could have on the rink at a time would be 10-15. You are better off going to Gardens Icehouse in Laurel, it's much bigger and way less crowded. Tickets to Color burst were $14 and the blue whales for kids they had worked well but unfortunately it's just not safe to go here. There were also a few people without masks on and people were not able to social distance well. read more

I visit Color Burst Park frequently. Amazing events are held here in the summer months and in the fall. The surrounding businesses are a treat. The people that frequent this area are wonderful. What's not to like?! read more

Poor experience all around. The ice was in terrible shape and the rental skates were crummy. They had some sympathy initially since it was a sunny day, but apparently they don't turn on the refrigeration system until the evening. That doesn't make a lot of sense considering it's typically warmer in the day? Not worth the drive, save your $$$ read more

Cleaned, very kid friendly. Has seating sections. Ample parking spaces close to the park and splah pad. Check the website for the events.

DO NOT go! Small rink and too many ppl for the size of the rink. There was no way to properly social distance and when asked about it, staff didn't seem to care. I saw no extra cleaning going on besides a small spray of generic disinfectant on the outside of the skates. Also there are very few of the blue whales for the kids to hold onto and no way to reserve one. You have to pay cash to use them and who knows where that money goes, I doubt towards payroll taxes. We forfeited the remainder of our PRE-PAID time and left after being nearly run over for the second time. NOT WORTH IT! read more

We were impressed by the variety of plant collections, some of which rivaled gardens we had previously paid admission to visit. Parking was free and we chose to park at the Visitor Center. However, those planning to visit the Butterfly Experience should park closer to the Conservatory, as the walk between the two was fairly substantial. The map was detailed and pathways were well maintained, making the grounds accessible for wheelchairs and strollers. We purchased tickets for the Butterfly Experience and check in was quick and seamless. I did find the additional $2 service charge unfortunate, especially since there was no option to purchase tickets in person. Thankfully, staff were flexible with entry timing. The volunteers were incredibly kind and guided visitors through the double door system efficiently. Inside, butterflies freely flew around the conservatory and many rested on the ground, so we had to stay mindful of where we stepped. I especially appreciated the bulletin board displaying all the butterfly species currently housed inside. The Children's Garden was relatively small but wonderfully colorful and dense with greenery. The vibrant artwork throughout added a whimsical charm that made the area feel playful and inviting. Nearby, the Winter Garden and Camellia Garden were similarly well maintained, though neither was particularly abundant in blooms during our visit. I still appreciated the many art installations scattered throughout the surrounding trails. The Fragrance Garden absolutely lived up to its name and ended up being one of my favorite sections. Beyond the floral aromas surrounding the garden, the entire area felt incredibly serene and the air itself felt remarkably fresh and crisp. The Japanese Tea House was beautifully simplistic, featuring plain wooden benches along the exterior while overlooking still water framed by lush Japanese trees. The Anderson Pavilion offered a similar tranquil atmosphere on the opposite side of the Visitor Center, though surrounded by a different collection of trees and landscaping. The Visitor Center contained a small gift shop, though I did not notice many customized or particularly memorable souvenirs. The building otherwise seemed primarily dedicated to educational programming and exhibits. The grounds were incredibly well maintained and there was an impressive variety of gardens to explore and interact with. While I found the Butterfly Experience somewhat expensive, it would absolutely be worthwhile for those who have never visited an active conservatory before. Otherwise, the free portions of Brookside Gardens alone make this an easy and worthwhile stop for anyone in the area.

We prefer the outside to the inside. The inside has a discovery play room for kids with some creatures, toys, and dress ups. There are a couple exhibits and animals to view inside as well. We attended a 3 year old birthday party here and it was a hit. They have different themes and activities. This one had a play and the kids got to meet and touch a turtle.
